    Try the Ramada. I stayed there last week during Labor Day. And I liked it. It is under a mile from the park, so fairly walkable. Free parking and free breakfast. Valet parking was free too. Rooms were fine. And they had rooms with bunk beds plus a coach. My group was 5 people and so we were all able to have our own beds in one room

    On our last Disneyland visit we did stay at the Courtyard by Marriott and it was very nice. It is quite popular and gets booked up fast, so we reserved our room several months in advanced. We were fortunate enough to have enough Marriott reward points to be able to cover our entire stay-otherwise it would have been very pricey to stay there (especially with no free parking or breakfast). We had a park view room, which gave us the view of Space Mountain, the Matterhorn, and the monorail going around (and the Guardians of the Galaxy tower in the distance). It would have been perfect for watching fireworks-if they had had them during our stay. The bathroom had 2 showers (one glass door enclosed and the other was a tub/shower combo with a fabric curtain). The room also had a mini fridge, microwave, and a corner table for eating our breakfast (we had brought our own drinks, protein bars, and mini muffins to eat before rope dropping each morning). My daughter had her own little nook that had a bunk bed and window, which gave her the view of the water park below. We enjoyed being able to just walk down Harbor Blvd, among the many other park goers, and head straight to security/park gates so easily by 7:30am and then leave the parks whenever we wanted to head back. Not having to worry about Disneyland parking, trams, buses, monorails, or hotel shuttles was so nice. We also grabbed a quick meal at their cafe one night (the table we sat at had a mini TV screen that showed cartoons). The food we had was delicious and really hit the spot. They had a small gift shop that we did look through, but didn’t actually purchase anything from there. Instead on the morning of our check out day, we walked to Downtown Disney with no crowds and picked up our souvenirs there, walked back, and then checked out. Having such comfortable beds and a positive hotel experience really made a huge difference in making our whole Disneyland trip really memorable. If given the chance, we would definitely stay there again.

      The Courtyard Marriott is great for larger families and teens! We have stayed here for our last 2 trips. We have 3 teenage daughters and it is difficult to find hotels to accommodate us. The kids refuse to sleep on a pull out chair/couch now that they’re older (I don’t blame them!) but don’t mind the bunk beds at this hotel. We stayed in the 2 queen suite the first visit, but found the 2 rooms not really necessary. We stayed in a standard room the second time and it was great! The two showers are especially nice. Although this hotel is on the expensive side, for us it’s much cheaper than booking 2 rooms or a suite that can fit us elsewhere.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  5 месяцев назад

      The cost to Uber from LAX is $75ish. The cost from John Wayne will be maybe $30ish as it’s about a 1/3rd of the distance away.
      Often flights to LAX are cheaper so if your flights are more than about $50 to John Wayne, then you might as well go to LAX, unless you just don’t want to deal with LAX (which is a valid reason all in itself).

    When I went looking on each hotels website the prices you were showing were nowhere near the prices you were giving, are prices cheaper for people who live there?

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад +2

      No, the prices listed are the lowest rates that I found over a 3 months period.
      Many of the websites allow you to look at their rates on a calendar view of the whole month.
      Some of those hotels also offered AAA discounts or a “book early and save” rate so I included that discount as the “lowest” rate.
      This is just to give you a baseline comparison cost for the hotel compared to the other hotels on the list.
      Costs vary by day. Booking on a Tuesday will cost either more or less than booking on a Wednesday. And holidays and weekends will always be more expensive, sometimes significantly so. So there’s no possible way to provide the exact cost for any given person, so I opted to choose lowest rate in a 3 months time period.
      Most of those are sometime in May, but each hotel varied as to when their lowest rate was available. They didn’t all follow some easily recognizable pattern.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад +1

      @@mauracarr You should be able to do that, though it may be a bit convoluted on how to get there.
      I don’t think there’s street access to Mickey and Friends, so you might need to walk down to the bridge that connects Pixar Pals to Downtown Disney and go up that way into Pixar Pals, then down the escalator to the tram loading.
      That’s still going to be about a 10 minute walk to the trams. FYI.
      There is a Holiday Inn Express just off Harbor by the HoJo and Courtyard (in this video) that you’d be able to use points on, but it may be too expensive? It’d be a lot closer though. That 10 minute walk would have you in the park instead of just at the trams.

      I've not stayed there before, but it's just on the opposite corner of the street from Candy Cane Inn, which is a pretty easy walk. It just includes 2 more traffic lights because you'd have to cross both Katella and Harbor just to get to Candy Cane.
      By the looks of it, you'd have to pay for the ART bus if you wanted a shuttle. It's not super expensive, but it's not a free shuttle, from what I was able to quickly dig up. You may find this to not be the case if you call and talk to them.

      Yeah, I looked around and found the lowest rate over a 3-4 month period. The average, though, is around $229/night (plus taxes and fees) so the $600 for two nights sounds about right.

      There were a few hotels in there that I specifically left off the video. All clustered right there near the Park Vue. To my knowledge, they aren’t associated with Get Away Today, and we were trying to point out those hotels since Get Away offers awesome packages that help save some cash over booking everything separately on your own.
      I only included Candy Cane, which is not on Get Away, because it happens to be our #1 personal choice for a hotel. It’s a bummer they aren’t with Get Away, but they are a phenomenal little privately owned hotel with amazing quality and perks (free breakfast and parking).

    Im from Australia and the exchange rate is very poor to stay in Katella Ave or close to Disneyland Hotel costs are between 160.00 US and above per night to stay a week well over 1,000 US dollars how can the average American afford this.Unless you stay at Hotels 5klms away can get a better deal well at times depends.And then the Quality of the Hotel they all have a problem or many issues with the Hotel on the money you are paying you want a good Hotel that is clean,Housekeeping must be spot on the Front Desk must be efficient in there duties,also the condition of the room and how it is maintained has anyone come across a good Hotel for the right price at all.

      When I went to Hawaii earlier this year for our vacation, we were there for a week.
      Our first hotel, for three nights, cost $1,100.
      Our second hotel, for 4 nights, cost about $2,200. This was the Disney hotel, equivalent to staying Deluxe at Disneyland or Walt Disney World. But there’s no theme park so the hotel is your experience.
      We are planning our Walt Disney World trip for next year right now and 7 nights there will cost us $1,700. And two nights at Universal will cost us $800 (now we are staying at a very fancy hotel there because it includes express pass, which makes up a huge portion of the cost. It’s actually cheaper to stay at the fancy hotel with free express than get a cheaper hotel and pay for express separately). But our total hotel costs will be $2,500 for 9 nights, and Florida tends to be cheaper in hotel costs than California by far.
      The best close hotel to Disneyland to stay at for the most affordable prices that still has a free shuttle is the Anaheim Majestic (in my opinion).

      There’s a range of both affordable and moderate hotels on the list.
      The only one that’s really really expensive is the Courtyard. While the lowest price I found in the next 3 months was around $300/night, I tried to book it for April 14th and it’s $700. 😵‍💫
      I’m sure there are significantly cheaper hotels. Ones that are further away, or aren’t as nice.
      Despite that, all of these hotels are cheaper than staying on property.

    Does it matter? All the hotels, including Disney's, are turning into the same old boring Marriot design. It is all starting to feel the same, no authenticity.

    • @SoCalDisneyDad
      @SoCalDisneyDad  Год назад +2

      Perhaps. Perhaps not. When I pick a hotel, it's usually purely for cost to value ratio. And what you value is entirely up to you.
      For me, the top hotels are:
      ---Candy Cane Inn (free parking, free breakfast, proximity, excellent service, affordability, appearance)
      ---Howard Johnson (water playground, excellent service, proximity)
      ---Best Western Park Place (proximity, free breakfast)
      ---and Anaheim Majestic Garden Hotel (affordability, overall appearance)
      A hotel is ultimately a place to sleep so you can enjoy the parks. Which is why I tend to avoid expensive hotels (like the Disney hotels) or ones without many perks (breakfast being a huge perk that not many hotels in the area offer).
