I live in Hawaii on the water. It's terrifying when we have a Tsunami alert. We're only 4-5 feet above sea level (depending on the tide). Thank goodness we dodged another one. Thanks for sharing your California footage. Scary and wild stuff. My heart aches for those in 🇹🇴 Tonga.

As you can see, water plowing up on a flat beach vs. bluffs vs. channeling around man made structures dramatically change the effects. Thanks to people sharing tsunami videos we can learn what size surge would be safe to go watch or stay away.
Used to live on 38th Ave and was at that beach at least twice-weekly in late '80's - early '90's. Pretty intense to see the swing of the water like that; good job and thanks for capturing this.

Me too. My husband gave me a ride had a load for Lorenzo Lumber. I sat an bawled my eyes out the whole time I had left after graduation ing and the Big Quake. The Santa Cruz that cradled me for ten years was tarnished she still hadn't fully recovered this was 17 years ago I was last there.

I’ve lived in California a very long time, and every time to go to the coast and I see the cliffs it always seems to me that waves have hit those cliffs a lot over a long period of time, makes me wonder how big of waves have hit those cliffs. Scary because any day a giant wave can come in. I read a few months back that a 75 foot waves was coming towards San Francisco. Imagine being on the beach on that day, scary shit!
Maybe it is an uplift horst graben kinda movement on the seabed a bit right as it is Pacific plate oceanic instead of convergent fully some portion had strike slip Tranverse like wow.

what was the local time you started to record the events of the surge? avg speed of the tidal wave of energy is 450 miles per hour, but, this event IVO Tonga was very large underwater explosion, but not as strong as the earthquake in 2004 in Indonesia. Trying to evaluate your local time for effects witnessed compared to time of the actual event across the pacific. thanks.

Eruption happened the day before in Tonga so waves reached Santa Cruz and Cali coast that morning.
