I remember when I was little, the flour sack were made of white fabric, my mother made shorts out of it and a blanket that I love so much. I was so proud of my blanket that my older sisters teased me about it. I really don’t understand them for I thought I was very lucky that my mom made it just for me.
My sister is an artist and made several bags from flour sacks,,, and by made i mean i made them since i was the only one who knew how to use a sewing machine and barely got any money from all my work lol. I still have some leftovers from all the stuff i made back in the day

I'd consider asking art galleries in your area! One called Frank in Chapel Hill, NC used to do a no fabric dress challenge (called rubbish 2 runway) to challenge artists and promote recycling (the main focus was on the fact materials can be recycled into smth else aka a dress). They gave awards, displayed the dresses for awhile, and did a whole runway. I made a dress entirely out of caprisun pouches (which I do not recommend lol). Sadly they seemed to have stopped doing it tho, good luck with something in your area! Wish I could participate in another
Findlay, Ohio is one place, but they’re all over. See if there are any state/province fairs over the year they usually have some sorts of fashion competitions you can enter. Also they’re the whole duct tape prom dress thing and you can get a huge scholarship for that
You really can. I once made a Mary Poppins/boater style hat in an ~hour out of cardboard from furniture packaging, following directions found through pinterest. Sprayed it black with hair spray that kept rubbing off, and it fell off my head too easily but it was worth it.
When I was a kid ( I’m 60 now) they used to sell rice, flour and oats in cotton floral bags. My mom and sisters used to take them when they had enough saved up and made clothes out of them. Dresses all kinds of things. As I recall they were really beautiful. Does anyone else remember doing this. The picture of the dress you made was really beautiful and you certainly deserved to win....
I remember seeing it in the American Girl Doll Kit Kitridge movie when I was little and I thought it was so cool!!! I wanted my own floral chicken feed sack dress 😂💕

Wow! You’re amazing!!! So talented!!! This reminds me of the time my Mom made tea party hats for all our guests for my 5th birthday party. She made the hats with plates, bowls & ribbon. She started by tracing the bottom of the bowl onto the middle of the hat then cut the traced area out leaving a kinda donut shaped plate. Then, she flipped the bowls upside down & glued them to the center of the hat to close the donut shape & since they were cut out there & the bowl was ya know a bowl, there was enough room for the tops of our little heads ~ wala a party hat was born! She then spray painted them yellow & punched holes on either side of the brim & knotted 2 ribbons (one on each side) underneath which we used to tie in a bow under our chin to keep the hats on. She may have even added some ribbon or faux flowers to trim the brim but I can’t remember. They were super cute! Love your unorthodox methods of sewing. We have similar ways of creating 💕 (I’m a jewelry designer). You’re so fun to watch!
