FWIW, I found the fan on the heatsink over the m.2 slot to be quite loud at high RPM, but its not an issue if you set it to a flat fan curve of like 35%.
You can get the B650I Edge, but it has its own downsides. There is no perfect AM5 ITX motherboard, but I do think ASRock has come close depending on the use case.
i just ordered it (a620i lightning board) a few days ago, i was planning to use it with my peerless assassin 120 on shiny snake G200 case, the other case that i was considering is shiny snake s300, but it support only sub60mm cpu fans, apx90 was my first guess as i really love the efficiency of thermalright air coolers; thanks for th quick reply
@aeszer aftermarket simply means not official ones. In other words: just some nuts with smaller diameter than the included ones that work with motherboard backplate
@@L91 Thanks for the response, confirmed with Thermalright support that they indeed are using M2.5 thread. Will see if the screw nuts I ordered will work
One with BIOS flashback for sure, so definitely not the ASRock B650E PG-ITX. MSI MPG B650I Edge WiFi, Gigabyte B650I, & Rog B650E-I are all solid options 👌
Thanks a lot for making these videos as they are super useful. I recently built a PC with a 7800x3d and the ASUS B650E-I motherboard but coil whine is really bad. I was considering getting another board and this one seems to be the only option without coil whine issues. You mentioned the fact that x3d CPUs aren’t supported out of the box… is that right? When I got the ASUs B650E-I, I didn’t have to update the bios and it worked out of the box.
Yes, X3D will NOT POST on the Asrock unless updated and Asrock did not implement any BIOS flashback option so you'd need a second non-X3D CPU. I returned mine because of that as I couldn't borrow another CPU.
@@philippmaash1896 This board is almost $300. Only one USB 3 2x2 and no USB 4. Who the hell on earth needs six USB 2? Even a mid range $1000 laptop has USB 4 now.
Just want to thank you for testing cooler compatibility, very helpful info
Asrock always did great ITX designs.

I just used silent preset and didn't really notice the fan after that
This is the only AM5 ITX board that is available in Central Europe and that doesn't have an annoying flaw

No BIOS Flashback and no USB-C display out are not annoying flaws?
@@philippmaash1896 The lack of BIOS flashback is an epic failure. I returned it.
can I use the m.2/pump fan connector for a chassis fan instead?
You can use the pump header and the M.2. Though, I can't recall if the M.2 header has full manual control in BIOS or just basic control.
does that mean that a620i/b650i asrock lightning boards incompatible with apx90-47/53 aswell?
You'll need to use some smaller diameter aftermarket nuts due to the backplate design. Then it will work.

what do you mean by "aftermarket nuts" btw? i am afraid i dont understand ^^' @@L91

i see, so you just need the four hex nuts of the lower diameter/area on the backplate, right?@@L91
Any idea on how to make the AXP90 series work with this motherboard? I haven't gotten to building my PC yet and have this exact combination
You can try sourcing replacement nuts with smaller diameters, think they use M2.5 thread

Hey, i am planning on a new build and was wondering which Am5 motherboard would be reliable and you would recommend with 7800x3d?

this or b650i edge?
All comes down to the price, and whether colour schemes bother you, I suppose
@@L91 what about b650e-i asus?
Aorus B650 ITX, or Strix
Why so many USB 2 ports? We need USB 4. It's 2023.
USB4? Is absolutely premium and this board is lower midrange ...

@@spektrumB It’s only 300 bucks, merely an entry board. If you’re not spending 1k on the MSI Godlike board, are you really spending enough?
