Welcome to the Nikon Family!! You made an awesome purchase on the Z8. In terms of which lenses to get, really depends on what type of shooting you do? For portraits, definitely nikon's 85mm z f1.2 , 50mm f1.2 or 70-200 2.8.. the 70-200 is extremely versatile too for many different photography. Native lenses always pair better in my opinion. You can rent them first to try and compare to your Sony lenses. Lastly, in terms of "soft" pictures, check your settings make sure all soft rendering, smoothness are turned off. Oh, also, you can program any button or wheel to your liking too! 👍 PEACE ✌️!
The Plena is a cheat code , it's insane - a bit situational because it's 135.. but god... my favorit lense of all time! And on 45 MP Z8 / Z9 unbeatable combo.
At 10.22 ypu spoke about iso change, you can actually configure your lens ring to change iso/aperture /exposure compensation. You can also set the camera to make changes with just press of the button no need of holding it down to make those changes . Custom setting F6 should be set to on,with that you don't have to hold down the button just press and make changes.
I also switched to Nikon from Fuji last week. Got the z8 and 180-600, 28-75 2.8. I was tired of all the out focus shots with eye tracking, even on a static subject. Since I mainly shoot wildlife, Nikon has more “affordable” telephoto lenses. So far, the z8 is AMAZING!

To be honest, you were taking great portrait shots even with not so good AF and even with cheaper 3rd party lenses. The Z8 should indeed be a great one. For portraiture, street and landscape Fuji should just be plenty enough to bring out enough joy and inspire others to pick up a camera. Then I come back to reality and remind myself I only do this for fun and I don't need to spend thousands more on a different setup...yet lol.
Congrats on the find! I've been looking at the Z8 for a year, but still absolutely love my A7RV & A7Cii. A few things, I don't feel like the Z8 images are "softer" than Sony's. They are just as or even sharper. Actually, you are missing focus by a "literal" hair (many reports of back or front focusing instead of eye). Lastly, have you used Sony tracking AF yet (works in both photos & videos)? It's super sticky and many have compared it to Nikon's 3D. I have it on a custom button (I'll link the video if I can find it. Most don't use it because Sony as it hidden in the custom buttons).
Yea I have the sony a7cii, I know how sticky that thing is. It feels like the Z8 is better in some instances. I would still love to try the sony a7rv one day.
I watched your videos when I had xt3, now I own nikon z6. The only thing I really hated and switched back to nikon is AFC. It was frustrating experience. Nikon z6 is not really amazingly good in AFC but it’s better and more reliable than fujifilm xt3. I would like to get nikon z6iii. It has amazing autofocus. Just what I need.
I was waiting for this video! I've recently switched to a full Nikon setup (Z8 and ZF) I really enjoy using the cameras. They are so much easier to use than the Fuji's. Still working out how to edit the raw files. I'm not crazy about the greens or blues out the box. Fuji was just so easy in that regard.
Awesome video as always! Been a while since I commented on one of your videos but I've been busy.. Traded all my fuji gear in and ended up going full Nikon. I went with the z8, awesome z24-120 f4, z50mm f1.8 and awesome z180-600mm. To keep that fuji itch alive also I picked up the zf. I couldn't be happier with the performance especially af. Even the jpegs are not bad and there is some tweaking to be done if you want. Enjoy sir!
The only question I would have is whether you feel like your images are far better than they were before. Now, behind the scenes I'm sure there are missed shots we don't know about due to AF issues. So, as a professional photographer that makes a camera like the Z8 invaluable for you. But, that body and the lenses are way too expensive for an amateur photographer, at least that's true for me. Would I love to own a FF camera and lenses? Sure. But, as an amateur I don't really need it and my budget just isn't up there. Having said all of that, it's going to be fun to see your use of the Z8 here! Kasey(CC) has been using a Z6III and really loving it. Of course, that's all video work. But, I do like the image he gets with it. Have fun and looking forward to your work with that beast!!
Image quality is probably on the bottom of the important list for photographers these days. They are all pretty darn excellent. Lens selection, ergos, and video hybrid features are way more important.
Z8 is a beast and well priced!. I have the 35mm 1.4, It's cheap, sharp enough and the bokeh reminds me of vintage lenses. To be honest no need to invest in anymore Nikon lenses when you have Sony glasses. All of my Sony glasses works well on my Zf and Z8!
I have been using nikon d750 for a while. Recently bought the z8. I have godox v860ii which works fine in d750. When i tried it at z8 for some reason it only fires in manual mode and not TTL. When i look at the camera screen, TTL shows so no loose connection. Then i tried the godox trigger and TTL works fine there. Anyone any idea?
AF will be slightly better with native Z lenses. Tracking sticks like glue and I rarely ever hit an eyelash instead of an eyeball. It's crazy that the sensor readout on the Z8 is about 3X faster than the stacked XH2s APSC sensor. The Z6III has about the same readout as the XH2s but FF 24mp. Wait until Nikon drops that half rolling shutter/half global shutter sensor they patented recently.
I just got my Nikon ZF. As a new Nikon shooter, I'm still figuring out the controls and menus. My usual presets aren't looking great on the ZF files either. The camera feels good in hand, and the image quality is nice. But if I can't get the colors right, I might have to return it.
I have the same problem when it comes to the color. It's a bit different... But I may have to make a video on how Fuji shooters can get Fuji colors on a nikon.
Something you might try is to change the Picture Profile from Standard to Neutral or Flat? I find the Standard is too contrast-y to apply presets on but the Flat profile solves the issue.
@@nunucheong I’ve tried the Nikon profiles, but they actually worsen the orange and green skin tones. Adobe Standard is better since it provided the least contrast and saturation. I’ve also tried the Leica, Lumix, and Sony presets, but they over-saturate skin tones and greens, even after careful adjustments. This is weird because I used these presets on a rented Z6 and they worked fine. I’m still working on it, but I need a consistent look for my event photography.
Former Fuji fanboy also. I sold My Xpro3 & XT3 for a Z6 and now am using the Zf. I left Fuji for the reasons you mentioned, poor autofocus, no firmware updates etc. I had the same issues with the Nikon controls such as the ISO on the Z6 but the Zf is much better although Fuji is still better in this regard. For me the low light capabilities are the main reason I like it better as I am using it for concert photography. As for the lenses I have owned the Fuji 16-55 2.8, 50-140 and the new versions of the 23 1.4 and 35 1.4 Fuji lenses and the Nikon 50 1.8s is better than all of them. I have usually preferred 85 as a portrait focal length, I used the 56 1.2 Fuji for that but I think the Nikon is so good that I just move closer. It doesn't have the character of the 56 but it is almost an optically perfect lens.
Nikon has a really good feature which is "Highlight-Weighted Metering". It's a feature that I think should be on every digital camera. No need highlight warning or use other metering mode at all. You can always brings back the shadow as the files are really good.
@@ufukkiblat yeah good point. I would caution against using for nighttime street photography. I was using it last weekend and neon signs killed the shot because everything else was so underexposed (even lifting exposure and shadows to the max in post didn’t salvage the file). But this was my error and not the cameras.
Native lenses are a must. Stick with the S line as you have 46mpx to your disposal. If budget allows the 2.8 f zoom lenses are magical. I am not sure about the true color rendering on the Sony. I can not compare but if you get a chance just try first. If you can not see any difference stick with what you have :)
You should try the Boryoza AF adapter for your Fuji lenses on the Nikon body, you can shoot in either FX or DX. As for colors and filmsimulations > DxO FilmPack 7
Z8 is great workhorse. I like my Zf but the moment I take x-t5 in hand everything clicks. I moved from Canon R6 to X-T5 with no regrets. Sure AF and picture quality is better on Nikon (and was great on Canon). I stay with Fujifilm, becouse its more fun.
From my experience, Nikon's Z lenses will perform better than adapted lenses. For me there was a noticeable improvement between using an older Nikon F lens with the FTZ adapter vs a native Z lens. I assume that difference would be similar with other third-party lenses.... or maybe it's the focus motor design of Nikon's older lenses.
The Z8 is so good that two of the three moderators on DP review Fuji forum use it as their primary camera. Yes you read that correctly that they don’t actually regularly use Fuji cameras.
Sounds great, i always wanted to get the Nikon ZF but i hated the over priced Nikon lenses especially as they don’t have aperture rings. But not anymore thanks to megadap! Mate that’s a serious game changer as most of the newer Sony Lenses now include an aperture ring. My Fuji muscle memory won’t require recalibration.
Thx for honest review 👍 Do You have possibility to make 1:1 compare of native Fujifilm Film Simulations vs Cobalt Image Fujifilm film profiles on Z8 raw files?
Great, I would love to see such comparison, because right now only thing what keeps me in Fuji system are Film Simulations and overall Fuji color science. If I could mimic Fujifilm Film sims with cobalt image film profiles, there is nothing what would hold me back to switching to Nikon Z system..
I've owned many Fuji cameras through the years and recently bought the Cobalt Image CaptureOne Fujifilm profiles for my Z8. I was pretty disappointed. They might be more accurate in Lightroom though.
@@dsalzr uhh.. Very disappointing to hear that 😑 Can You tell me what was Your main complain? Cobakr images weren't accurate mimicking Fuji Film Simulations?
@@fotokozlowskiI had the same experience, I don’t fine the cobalt profiles to be a replacement. I really liked classic chrome and Astia on my Fuji but can’t get it to feel good when applying it to Nikon files. With that said though I think the files are generally pretty easy to edit
I personally would advise renting a native Nikon 50mm lens, that way you can check if indeed the AF speed is improved (and potentially other advantages, like less vignetting)
There is a difference between subject detection and autofocus speed. I've owned several nikon lenses. The body is the one dictating subject detection and the lens with it's respective af motor drives the lens element to focus. Of all lenses I've owned, the fastest focusing and the one who keeps up really well is 70-200 f2.8 s. That is blazingly fast and i rarely missed focus on it when set on proper shutter speed. The one I'd say least reliable specially on moving subject specially in events like wedding is 85mm 1.8. don't even try shooting with it with the people moving on the aisles during the procession and you'd risk missing some shots where it could be soft because the lens could not keep up
This is why Sony is getting more appealing to me-the 85mm f1.4 mk ii they just released is blazing fast…Sony seems to get that speed is good no matter the lens. I really would love to have an 85mm-equivalent prime that rips. On Fuji, I probably should have kept the Viltrox 56mm, it was a pretty fast lens but the Fuji 56 just kills it in image quality. It is also a bit sluggish in terms of tracking but the accuracy is great.
So cool that you got into Nikon 🙌 I’m also a Fujifilm user (for photography), but am looking forward to Nikon bringing awesome RED RAW video to the masses 😎 So have been very curious of their system.
Ask Matt Irwin, or one of your favorite Nikon people about performance of native lenses vs megadap adapters. This is great to hear! I might switch as well.
You know the Z8 has some type of soft setting thing in the menu. I don’t own one & maybe it is just for face/people. Check the manual or Nikon’s website. When the Z8 was released, it was a feature the Z9 didn’t have at the time. If you’re happy with the Sony lenses & don’t need any faster focus, why add unless you just like to. Sounds a little like new toy infatuation saying it’s Greek’s awesome but a little soft & wondering about faster focus. I see wildlife photos fro Sony Canon & Nikon. Don’t get me wrong, some Nikon are super sharp but as a Nikon user I would say they were taken at pretty close distance for wildlife. Canon is better as the distance gets greater & I think nobody beats Sony as the distance lengthens & also in lower light. Being vested in Nikon lenses, I hope I’m wrong but doubt it very much.
This is actually the same thing that happens when a Fuji shooter goest to Canon, Sony, Nikon or even a Leica Q. I shot Fuji for a while. I still wonder why.
Damn that price of your used Z8 is as hot like your intro 🔥 I have thought about getting the Z8 the past few weeks, but have resisted the urge to do an impulse buy for now :D I watched the videos from Shootswithcoops yesterday and compared to his video AF footage with Megadapt x Sony lenses it was quite decent for video. But I have the impression, that my 28mm 2.8 and 40mm f2 are a bit smoother in video AF, but I might be wrong. I heard that the Nikon AF shines with lenses of the Silver line up. If I remember correctly Taylor Jackson did some videos on that. Great video and happy for you getting the Z8 at such a price! Now after using Sony and Nikon AF system, the only child left is Canon :D
Fuji : User base: 50% Poser , 30% Starting Professional , 20% Professional Photographers. Sony : Third party lens Collector, Working class Photographer. Those who prefer usabilty/ reliability than aesthetic 😂 Nikon: Veteran Photographer, has been on the game before our parents get married Canon: Sorry. I shoot only weddings 🤭 Lumix/Panasonic: The silent kid on the room
Problem with Nikon is to get really good AF tracking you have to spend the bucks on a higher end body. I have fuji if someone really needs tracking it’s not great. But Canon does great job at giving consumers great lower end bodies with great tracking….that way you can spend the money on great glass. People complain they don’t have enough 3rd party glass but man what they have is really great stuff.
@ I do mostly bird photography….zf just doesn’t cut it for that kind of tracking. That’s why canon does a great pricing for that level of tracking like the r7, r10 and r8.
@@Iamtongue even the R8 when it first came out, a budget full frame its tracking was already better than z8. The R7 is also very good….check out people who shoot mostly birds. I find tracking birds is a tougher test. You see what canon does is entice people with great lower end bodies to get them into the system.
Great video Tung - try the Z 50 1.4 it is a lot like the Fuji 35 1.4 (character) but all of the Z glass is really nice. The 40mm f2 is also fantastic. i love my Zf and am in no hurry to change it - 24 mega pickles is perfect for like 90% of things i do. I am excited for the next generation of Nikon cameras or whenever they integrate RED technology, hopefully in the Z9 II or Z8 II. BTW i sold my xt4 + 33 this weekend and for the first time in over 6 years I have no Fuji's
Thanks man, I really want the 50mm F1.4 Z but I dont know would be a wasted purchase now that I haev the ezt adapter with the sony 50mm f1.4 gm. I will have to figure this out haha...
I like my XH1 but if the Nikon is most comparable ill take it. I hear the AF isnt as good as Sony ir Canon or Panasonic, but honestly, Anthony better than Fuji is good. The newest Fujis cant even compete with a 2018 A7iii
Awesome video as always. Cheers. Fuji really needs to up their game in terms of video features, AF and stabilization. They have a lot of potential but horrible software and firmware. Nikon and Canon are years ahead in these terms. Coming from someone who has used XE4 with 35mmf2, even 5-6 years old Sony and Canon can beat modern Fuji in terms of AF, stabilization, etc.
Totally agree. I am beginning to see more of the technological advancements done with other camera systems now, and because of that Fuji just feels like a temu brand camera now. Build quality and software development.
I am waiting for Lumix S2R and I am out of X system. It's a good name for a system 'ex'. 9 years of investing in gear, down the drain. An All I got i big 'F' from Fuji.
Oh Toung you have come of age. Cut your teeth with Fujifilm. Now you are grown you realise. It's not the tool. It's you. Use the tools you need. Just keep the fire burning brother ❤
Any lens you use on the Fuji, or Sony... Nikon has better equals. But if your AF lenses work from another manufacturer, then why change. I will say I am an OEM guy and therefore only use Nikon on Nikon. But many have had success like you. Nikon lenses the "S Line" will AF better, but if you are good... then I would not change.
The Z8 is literally the same size as an old Canon 5Dmkiv and nearly twice the size of an X100v. Enjoy carrying that around your neck all day. Totally different user base to the Fujifilm X.
I wasn't a big fan of the Nikon 1.4 lenses tbh. They're good but..vintage design so they are kinda soft and don't control flaring well so their contrast is meh
I switched from a pair of Fujifilm XT5 to Nikon Z8, ZF as my wedding kit. Yes the autofocus is definitely an upgrade vs the Fujifilm. And if one is not chasing the lightweight and compact. I do prefer the ergonomics on the Nikon bodies. Got a couple friends using the ETZ and they all have good things to say. However native Z lenses will take advantage of the diameter and flange distance of the Z mount. In terms of the 35mm f/1.4 Z and 50mm f/1.4 Z, I would skip them, the CA on them are kinda bad wide open. I personally went with the 35 f/1.8S and 50 f/1.8S, very happy with them. Anything I miss from the Fujifilm…yes, I do miss the film simulations when I am not using my cameras for work.
@ hopefully we will see the Nikon imaging cloud support comes to the Z8 via firmware soon. So we can use the creators picture control or create our own recipes and download to our body.
When I own the z8 boy oh boy I loved/hate it 😂 For some reason every time I switch from photo to video even when I hit the settings right my video specs kept changing and I had no idea why. And their menu was far worse than Sony. They have things in places I did not understand why. Anyways, still love the end results, but it was frustrating for sure. And I just said it. Maybe Nikon is not for me. Definitely want to buy it again maybe for the 3rd time 😂
You do know, Nikon use different menus when in photo mode and in video mode, so when you switch to video mode, you go back to the last video mode you used. it does not use the settings you just made in photo mode.

Ya i know what you mean, the colors are a little weird to work.
Enjoy sir!
Thank you sir, and you made a good decision :)
Awesome can't wait to see what you do with this beast.
Thag would be insane wth
I love my Z8! Best purchase I have made.
@@AbdonPhirathon ah all the best in your search
It doesn't have the character of the 56 but it is almost an optically perfect lens.
wow the 50mm f1.8 is betetr than all those lenses? Haha you named like all the lenses i like from fujifilm haha
I bought a zf but sold it because it did not have highlight warning in stills mode. Does the Z8 have that feature? Nikon is on a roll!
Highlight-weighted metering
It actually doesn’t have it but you can back door it
Nikon has a really good feature which is "Highlight-Weighted Metering".
I just bought the new z 50mm f1.4 but haven't fully tested it
Native lenses are a must. Stick with the S line as you have 46mpx to your disposal. If budget allows the 2.8 f zoom lenses are magical. I am not sure about the true color rendering on the Sony. I can not compare but if you get a chance just try first. If you can not see any difference stick with what you have :)
Appreciate your comment thank you.

Perhaps! I will have to see.
I think Nikon Z50 II + Megadap ETZ21 Pro + Tamron 17-70mm f/2.8 would be a great combo
I personally would advise renting a native Nikon 50mm lens, that way you can check if indeed the AF speed is improved (and potentially other advantages, like less vignetting)
Thank you
There is a difference between subject detection and autofocus speed.
Same here!
Ask Matt Irwin, or one of your favorite Nikon people about performance of native lenses vs megadap adapters. This is great to hear! I might switch as well.
Thanks for the suggestion!
Get the Z 50mm 1.8 is the best 50 out there. Also the 85mm 1.2 and the 135mm are surreal!
Those are in the “MUST TRY”
Bro, welcome to the bright side.
Got the Zf after the XT5. Haven’t looked back, and I use only manual focus lenses 😅
I would skip the 1.4s, in my experience they are more fussy than they are worth. The 1.8 or 1.2 options are preferable.
This is actually the same thing that happens when a Fuji shooter goest to Canon, Sony, Nikon or even a Leica Q. I shot Fuji for a while. I still wonder why.
Damn that price of your used Z8 is as hot like your intro 🔥
I have thought about getting the Z8 the past few weeks, but have resisted the urge to do an impulse buy for now :D
I watched the videos from Shootswithcoops yesterday and compared to his video AF footage with Megadapt x Sony lenses it was quite decent for video.
Thanks man I appreciate the suggestions I will look into this.
Try the Techart PRO TZM-02 adapter... You can use manual M Mount lens on the Z8 perfectly 😍
Thanks for the suggestion!

Not a pro, so I’m happy with the fooj cameras. Nikon zf is always temping tho.
Proof it that the autofocus on the Z8 with Sony lenses is doing better than the Fuji! Make a video comparison if you dare, for photo and video.
That's alot of work. Why don't you take my word for it?
@@Iamtongue because I prefer to see a real action than just talk.
@@ufukkiblat ya that’s a lot of work. How about you do it?
Problem with Nikon is to get really good AF tracking you have to spend the bucks on a higher end body.
I have fuji if someone really needs tracking it’s not great.
But Canon does great job at giving consumers great lower end bodies with great tracking….that way you can spend the money on great glass. People complain they don’t have enough 3rd party glass but man what they have is really great stuff.
The z6iii is "affordable" compared to the high end bodies. Also ZF is the same price as the xt5
@ I do mostly bird photography….zf just doesn’t cut it for that kind of tracking. That’s why canon does a great pricing for that level of tracking like the r7, r10 and r8.
That R7 tracking is really that good? :o
@@Iamtongue even the R8 when it first came out, a budget full frame its tracking was already better than z8. The R7 is also very good….check out people who shoot mostly birds. I find tracking birds is a tougher test. You see what canon does is entice people with great lower end bodies to get them into the system.
I would imagine part of the experience would be shooting with native glass to get the full experience
Great video Tung - try the Z 50 1.4 it is a lot like the Fuji 35 1.4 (character) but all of the Z glass is really nice. The 40mm f2 is also fantastic.

I like my XH1 but if the Nikon is most comparable ill take it. I hear the AF isnt as good as Sony ir Canon or Panasonic, but honestly, Anthony better than Fuji is good. The newest Fujis cant even compete with a 2018 A7iii
X-T5 and Zf also have the same resolution EVFs. Zf EVF murders the X-T5, particularly for MF.

Right now I am missing the Film simulations as well shooting with the Nikon.
@ hopefully we will see the Nikon imaging cloud support comes to the Z8 via firmware soon. So we can use the creators picture control or create our own recipes and download to our body.
When I own the z8 boy oh boy I loved/hate it 😂
For some reason every time I switch from photo to video even when I hit the settings right my video specs kept changing and I had no idea why.
@ I’m aware
Well, if you need a fast and reliable AF, better not take a Fuji, Leica, or Panasonic camera!
