From watching the intro, you seem like a good trainer! 2:08 That's not easy and it looks ridiculous if you have a small dog, you have to walk like a monkey with a bent back.. I would say it's a lot more important to build up time from command to reward gradually, when training focused heel. If you gave or let them smell the food reward before, they know what the reward is and don't need to constantly smell it, just make sure to keep looking at your hand with the treat in it, by holding your hand (with or without a treat) between you and your dogs eyes. Never had my puppy lose focus when i trained him to heel because i made sure to build up distractions in the environment and time from command to reward gradually, and you can use "build up" marker words like, "ye... Yeah! YES!" > reward.
I've been training dre for 2 weeks. But yes fade out treats and keep treats close too nose to keep focus. If you have a short dog you will bend down to reward and fade out treats there is many ways to train a dog but deffinitly work the dog yiu have and do what's needed tonsucceed and create a safe successful stress free routine. Thabks for sharing and good luck with your dog.
I also when when first training keep food close then fade out with distance and time between reward. Takes time and consistency and setting yourself up for success. Thanks again for sharing your thought and appreciate your comment
2:53 That's not just for big dogs, i also do that with my toy poodle, it's important regardless of size.
