- Micah Schieber was just 6 years old when his dad, Chad, collapsed and died while running the Chicago Marathon in 2007. Chad Schieber served with the Midland City Police Department, and his brothers in blue supported the Schieber family over the years. So when it was time for Micah to celebrate a big milestone of his own, he wanted them to be there, too. Eighteen police officers came to the teen's graduation party, making it truly a moment to remember and helping him honor his late father. #InsideEdition

This brought me to tears. My father is a retired police officer of 32 years. When my brother was killed all his police buddies from his station and many more showed up in front of our house before we left for the funeral in their dress uniforms. They removed their hats and bowed in silence as we got in the car. They then got on police bikes to lead us to the funeral and stopped all traffic while we drove. I was 21 and my brother was 19. I don’t remember a whole lot from those first few weeks after he was killed but I remember each of those officers faces and I remember the respect and compassion they showed our family. I will never forget that. Micah, I’m sure your dad is looking down proud.

My dad died suddenly at age 34. It happened 17 days after my 4th birthday. Tomorrow 11/28/2020 he will be gone 47 years. I understand completely what this young man feeling at his graduation. I'm so happy these men were there for him. I pray they will be there for his other major milestones too.

Its hard to lose your dad at such a young age and have to grow up without him but I can bet your father was just like you.
This happened to me when I was seven, my dad had a heart attack while making an arrest me and my brother were left alone.

My son has been a police officer for about 18 years, and is a Sgt presently. I’m so so happy to see these officers did this for your boy, or I guess I should say young man. We’re a family. Arizona Sunflowers in an article further in depth it reveals that one of the kids has the same disease that caused the father’s death. The only difference is they know the kid has it, but didn’t know that the father did.
