It does have one additional effect that wasn't shown in this video: There's a random chance that it will knock the ceiling down! If there are any Swoopers still attached to the ceiling when this happens, they'll let go and float down to normal flying height before the ceiling falls (and consequently smacks everyone on the head for 1 non-piercing damage).
I read that, and thought, “well duh, that’s obvious.” Then I saw the video, and you meant the BATTLE ceiling. Let’s be honest though, who would have thought to try that on the Swoopers, much less go back and fight them?

I decided to try out Spring Jumping into the ceiling in battle for myself, and I discovered a little additional effect that wasn't shown in this video: When you hit your head on the ceiling, there's a chance that the ceiling will fall down and deal 1 non-piercing damage to everyone. If there are any Swoopers still clinging to the ceiling when this happens, they'll let go and float down to regular flying height before it falls. Makes me wonder if you could also knock the ceiling down in the Crump battle...

Or that slapping is a silly way to attack someone.
"hm, but what if i want to go back to creepy steeple 2 chapters later and use this enemy-crushing spring jump on a common boo while swoopers are hanging around??" -some weird tester/programmer idk
Excellent vid. Hey Koop (or anybody else) -- is it common knowledge that you can use the Spring Jump in the moon base to avoid the slow game segment? You can get Mario to land on the platform and then pick everything up by walking into it. I was able to pull it off one time in about 10 minutes of trying, but I've never seen anybody else mention it.
Oddity I found out about Spin Jump: the moment Mario gets up again from his butt he does a mini-jump. Many times i got a 1st hit cause enemy waked into it. You might wanna look into this as well, Koop, could be more to this "Spin Jump"
I thought the reason Love Slap didn't get much Star Power, even with Stylish, was because the audience for whatever reason hate the move, and boo Ms. Mowz when she uses it. Interesting.
I wonder if the 21 different speeds for Spring Jump is a glitch, or if Nintendo put that on purpose. I mean, probably they wanted to make the timing for Spring Jump to be harder than for other attacks. Or probably they wanted to make this attack to be different from others, since other attacks tend to have the same timing each time that you do them (isntead of Spring Jump's 21 different timings.)
I was thinking the same thing. But also, perhaps we're getting it mixed up with PM64? Mario can also do a first strike Super Boot and Ultra Boot animation that does heavy damage. And in TTYD the Spin Jump is used frequently for First Strike extra damage points.
Veil actually does have a Stylish move, but it’s only used once the enemy attacks. Press A as Vivian and Mario move back to their battle positions. I don’t think I found that out till I discovered Mario Wiki
Are you unable to go through the doors or progress story line with the freeze time thing? Also that’s crazy; I knew about hitting your head on the ceiling with spring jump, but I absolutely did not know that freezing aspects of the game was possible with spring jump in OG TTYD
I don't know if it's a glitch. Maybe the devs did this purposely as a balance; Spring Jump is a powerful jump move on its own with the most FP costs, so they probably figured you shouldn't gain a lot of SP by using the strongest main attack. Notice how Spring Jump has only 1 Stylish Animation while all other jumps (and badges) have 2 or more, and they provide a crap ton of SP. Even some attack badges have 1 Stylish animation, but they still give more SP because their FP use cost less.
Spring Jumping into the ceiling should have a quake hammer effect on enemies attached to it.

21 speeds, so that's why I could never get the timing on that damn jump as a kid.

I always swore up and down when I was a kid that the timing changed jump to jump! guess I was right lol stylish moves were my life
I just watched the A button on screen and ignored Mario's position entirely. Worked fine.
It was easy for me once I realized you could tell Mario's position by looking at his shadow on the ground.
Quorthon1983 That’s true, but sometimes the foreground blocks the shadow. I still can’t get the timing down as an adult

The fact that there are 21 variants of Spring Jump makes this attack so much worse. Unlike other attacks, timing is inconsistent.
