    Henco is a big talent and with Hartsenberg the 19 year old 13 at WP we have some real young talent at 13.
    You should make a video on Ruan Venter the 19 year old Lions URC lock. Ruan won the u20 Currie Cup last year with the Lions while he was still at school at Paarl Boys High in the Western Cape. He use to fly up to go and play games for the Lions.
    In his high school career Ruan played 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 10, 12, 13 and 15 as far as I know. He was sometimes used as the goal kicker and can kick goals from the halfway line. His hands and offloading is magic to not even mention his chip kicks. Last season as a youngster he ran some really hardened and experienced professionals off the field in the URC. Ruan loves the physical stuff and he is definitely going to be a Springbok. Ruan is 1.98 matters and around 120 kg. With Covid 19 in his grade 11 and 12 years at school not many people know about him.
    He won the u20 Currie Cup while still at school and he played for the u20 Springboks this year in Europe, he made his URC debut for the Lions in last seasons tournament as a 19 year old and he already played in 12 URC games.

    Seems promising, but I can see potential for lots of offsides with all that rush defence, and he's tackling a little high sometimes. We'll need to see how he copes at the highest level. Wishing him all the best.

    • @tasanalytics
      @tasanalytics  Год назад +2

      To be fair, those tackles you're referring to that are high was last year. That was before the whole "absorbing the hit" stuff that happened during NZ vs Ireland, so I doubt he uses that technique. Although he could technically get away with it because he's 1.8m which is shorter than almost all forwards so would be difficult to commit a high tackle. But haven't seen him use that technique during the URC. He focuses more on getting the ball carrier down and creating a turnover, which is the smart thing to do.
      Also with his rush defence, he doesn't do it a lot, only when he senses an counter attack opportunity. He's also quick to realize when he's out of position and will quickly step back to reset the defensive line. Whereas a lot of player would still commit and result in an overlap.
      He's still young, and has stuff to learn, I just like the potential he has shown. I think he does the same off the ball stuff like Am does, and that is why he would be a great choice to be his replacement when the time is right. I wouldn't mind seeing Am mentor him for 2-3 years to be his replacement for the 2027 World Cup. It would make a lot of sense

    • @makeperceive
      @makeperceive Год назад +1

      @@tasanalytics Yes he looks amazing, as I watched the rest of the video I can see him having a very bright future. Great "engine" and game sense, that kind of intuition and speed of decision making that Lukhanyo himself is famous for. I'm still waiting for the next Danie Gerber. Speed, power, intelligence. Sometimes I feel that Am just lacks a little of that sheer power, but makes up for it in the rest.

    • @tasanalytics
      @tasanalytics  Год назад +2

      @@makeperceive Yeah Am is a completely different player than Gerber, I think he's more special with his vision and playmaking skills where as Danie Gerber was a gamebreaker who took it upon himself to destroy a defence. Lukhanyo Am tends to play with flair by setting his teammates up, we don't always see it with the boks but when he's with the sharks his attack is on a new level.
      With attack, I think Henco would be more like Gerber if he actually got the ball to attack. At school people called him the next Danie Gerber with his linebreaks and his explosiveness but it has died down a bit since he just doesn't get the same attacking opportunities since he went pro. But he's still young, and I'm sure we'll see lots of highlights from him in the future.

    • @derekallan1341
      @derekallan1341 Год назад

      @@tasanalytics he will never be a Gerber. He has already slowed down since his school days which I watched with big time anticipation.
      I wonder if he would make a really great flank.
      Your comments.

    • @tasanalytics
      @tasanalytics  Год назад

      @@derekallan1341 I agree, He's not like Gerber. But I will say this, his defence is miles ahead to that of Gerber. They're totally different players now. Gerber was an attacking monster but he's defence was just average. Henco's games has changed from his school day. At school he was on of the best attacking players the country has produced. But he had to adapt because of his size, that's why he worked on his tackling technique and defence and has now become one of the best defenders in his age group. He still has a lot of potential on attack, but its more in the role of a direct runner, even though he still has an amazing step on him. But his game is more about power and explosiveness. He's still very hard to tackle because of his low centre of gravity and power, we just don't see it because the Lions refuse to use their 13's on attack. But Henco has already proven he's the best defender we have at 13 behind Lukhanyo Am. Other than Am, we don't have a specialist 13 and with the Boks, the 13 is the most important position in their defence, so they value defence more than attack.
      As for making Henco a flank, that would be the biggest mistake a coach can make. He's a specialist 13 and has always been, I wouldn't want to change that. He's definitely able to do it physicality wise, but you would be wasting his attacking talent

    @cobus5841 Год назад +4

    He does look promising and in time we might be fortunate enough to see more. I have admittedly not seen any other footage/games of Henco and should ideally do that but based just from the footage you have provided I have some reservations.
    1. There is a very definite potential for offside calls.
    2. When he breaks, he carries the ball into contact every time. (Even with a clear overlap supporting him).
    3. You provided precious little footage of him passing the ball. You showed the one pass from 2 angles and only 1 other pass. This concerns me, especially considering point 2.
    4. No footage of him kicking/chip 'n chase/up and under. Can he kick? Does he use kicks effectively? (I do believe even a number 13 should be able to kick. It is not just the Fly-Half's domain)
    5. Rushing up can stifle opposing play (as portrayed), but at the same time there is a resulting gap in the defensive line. Any opponent with similar attributes to Henco will capitalize on that. Does he have the self control to hang back and stay in the defensive line if he needs to?
    It's been my experience that a great individual player isn't always the best team player. Is Henco a good team player?
    I believe Rassie is a good judge of character and an innovative strategist. If Henco has the correct traits, I am sure Rassie will call on him. Time will tell.

      Yeah, he's incredibly smart on defence.That's why his size was never an issue at any level, he makes sure to use his tackling technique and just always be at the right place at the right time. But even despite his size, he's one of the strongest players i've seen. I can't tell you how many times I've seen him man handle forwards who try to run over him, he's fearless. It's obviously different at professional level, but I've seen the same thing in the limited games was able to see of him, his size simply never impacts him, in fact you could argue it even helps him at the breakdown because of his low centre of gravity. He's an exciting prospect for sure, I think he shares a lot of attributes on defence to that of Am than any other player currently in the SA setup. His attack is more like Damian de Allende than Am, whereas he's a strong runner with an incredible step, he has shown glimpses of good hands, but I prefer if he's the one carrying the ball and not distributing it.

      I get what you're saying but he doesn't just shoot out of the line for no reason. I'm just going to copy paste a previous comment of mine talking about the same thing. With regards to his running out of the defensive line, he only does it when a counter attack is on. In the cases I highlighted, there was clear counter attacks going on and his defense was out of position, so he reads the situation and then does that, and in those cases it was the right call, he prevented them from going outside and gave time for his team to get in position. He doesn't just run out of the line to run out of the line, he actually thinks before he does it.
      If you just run out of the line with no thinking behind it, then yes a team like the French or All Blacks will punish you every single time. But Henco is a smart player, he does it only when he needs to

Am is very good at the breakdown and knows when to go for a turnover, that is obvious. But with the tackle you're referring to the thing that makes it impressive is the tackle itself and how Henco uses his athleticism to make it. He dives and uses his arm to wrap around the legs of the defender, he then uses the moment he got from the time to roll around and get back up within 1 second and then competes at the breakdown. To make a tackle like that and compete at the breakdown within 1 second is absurd, no player can do that. The closes I've seen this being done was with Cheslin Kolbe in a French game where he did something similar but just couldn't get the steal at the end, but was still amazing athleticism to even try it

      @@Amandla-Awethu there is no need for a solution, the 2 best are already playing. The basis of my disagreeing with TAS is that van Wyk was being toted as the next Danie Gerber which is highly unlikely. He said to me that on attack Gerber was a beast but a useless defender; which is not true. Gerber could move off both feet and he could be direct as well. Van Wyks biggest strength is his ability to run at angles, he does not have that classic three quarter ability "to be here and suddenly over there". He also tried to tell me that Gerber was slow off the mark and only had line speed which is also untrue.
      Tas tried to tell me that he needs to be fast tracked into the Bok team because I compared URC to TEST rugby saying that a good URC
      /Currie Cup player will not necessarily make a good test player. I said that he is too young, remember what Nick Mallet did to Gaffie du Toit and Dave van Hoeslin?? I said to TAS that van Wyk is out of position too many times and in TEST rugby he will get smoked.
      I also said that he has slowed since school and that he will bulk as he gets older which is natural and so he will get even slower. Then he tried to convince me that van Wyk has not slowed down since his U16 and senior school days. He later admitted that van Wyk has slowed down.
      I suggested that because of his style of play he should be turned into a flank seeing that SO MANY people are saying that we should look for someone shorter that can win the ball on the ground and not play with 3 tall loose forwards. Please remember we have Smith playing that role and how they turned Marx from a loose forward to hooker. The way that he is tackling and winning the ball would make a classic Richie McCaw. So why could they not do the same positional swap with van Wyk?
      I also said to TAS that he has overhyped van Wyk with the amount of videos that he has pushed through the internet and that at school as a centre he was brilliant and the one school video that I thought really showed off his potential I sent to a very good friend of mine who is an ex-Bok centre.
      Lastly TAS accused me of HATING van Wyk!! Why would I hate him?? I am not one of those people that used to throw full cans of coke at Naas Botha just because a player is good or exceptional.

      Technically you are correct, but if you watch you'll notice when the 9 kicked the ball he was immediately put onside. If he started running before the 9 kicked the ball I would say you are correct, but since he was brought onside immediately before he went to tackle, I would say the correct call is that he was onside.

      @@derekallan1341 Have you watched his URC games? You keep saying his too small and too slow? Yet he single handedly changed the Lions defence? Even the game from last night. He destroyed Cardiff on defence and tackled the shit out of them. If he was too small people wouldn't be raving how good he was on defence. As for too slow, he has incredible acceleration. He's a short guy, he's not going to have long speed. Cheslin Kolbe is the same, he's slow compared to other international players but his acceleration to get to full speed in the first 20-30m is what makes him special. Not his speed.

      I agree. My only fear is the Lions wasting his career. They simply never pass the ball past 12, so its difficult to show your talent with no ball.
      Defensively he's already solidified himself as a top prospect. Thats why I would love to see Am mentor him. I think they to similar stuff on defence and he fit in nicely with the bok setup where defence is more important at 13 than attack.
      I don't think he's ready to replace Am yet. But it would be good idea to mold him into his replacement for the next world cup

      @@gerhardolivier6285 Yeah I don't know why they played Zander at 13 the last game, he only has experience at 12. Some of those tries was because he was out of position which you can't blame him since it was his first game at 13. I also think he makes more sense at 12 and gives the Lions an extra 60m+ kicking boot if Tiaan Swanepoel does not play. Louw has the potential, but he makes silly handling mistakes every game, he just needs to fix that. But yeah I think Henco should be the specialist 13.

    By pressing hard individually he will be a liability in the defence system for the boks. They press hard but everyone not just a single player. Secondly he is way to small and he needs to take AM’s place in the side, which is very unlikely! On top of that he is just too small to play test rugby as Rassie needs big centres to gain momentum and play on the front foot

    • @tasanalytics
      @tasanalytics  Год назад

      I love that the only knock anyone has against him is his size, yet he's always been the best defender in any team he has played in. Even in this Lions team, he is the best tackler by a mile and literally dominates every single tackle he makes. I would understand it if his size had a negative impact on his game but I've never see none game where his size had an impact on his performance, so that is a very lazy knock to use against him. Also the boks defensive system literally required your 13 and wings to press hard, it's a high risk high reward type defence so i can't see how it's a bad thing if Henco is doing it at 21 years old. I would argue he can do it better than most players on the boks team, maybe not Am, but definitely better than the rest.

    Video has potential, but crazy bias suggested by the captions. 'world class' , ' nobody can do this', ' break down specialist', etc. Arguably none of those are true.
    Also, sports videos without match sound and commentary are never going to get an upvote from me, personally (as you can imagine I therefore rarely give likes to youtube sports videos!) .

    • @tasanalytics
      @tasanalytics  Год назад

      I disagree, His defence is World Class, show me any other player in the world he makes the type of diving tackles like him, where he gets gets up to his feet within 1 seconds to steal the ball. There is none, he makes the most athletic tackles you will see. There was another one in the URC where he tackled Boffelli against Edinburgh where he swings around his leg in a manner I've never seen before whilst still having control throughout the entire time. It's simply, there is no player that can tackle like him, his technique is the best. As for breakdown specialist, I don't get your point because he is? Even if you look at his stats now in the URC, he has 4 breakdown steals already, with the top one being 6 and that is of a looseforward who also played 2 more games than Henco. So again, he's a 13 and still he is already top 5 in breakdown steals. So yes, he is a breakdown specialist. As for bias, there probably is because I've made it known Henco is my favorite player to watch because he is the best player I've ever scouted, But I make these videos to show what I see in him. Doesn't mean we have to agree, that's just how I see him as a player.
      As for your opinion on sound, I don't use match sound for copyright reasons. So sorry about that, I know a lot of people would prefer to use commentary, but I simply can't. But I get where you're coming from.

    • @dalenewton9697

      @@tasanalytics If you look at other sports videos you can find dozens with full match commentary and sound, although usually with a slightly audibile music in the background, partly to prevent videos being simply copied and uploaded by someone else (this of course is why people put music in their videos a lot of the time, or because they copied someone else's video themselves and are just trying to hide it by putting differnet music over it!). If it falls within fair use terms, there is no copyright violation for sound any more than for VT as far as I know. Check out the 'Epic Footraces' series for example. Match sound and faint background music. Why do you say that about copyright? Have you had a strike?
      He may be world class in certain aspects of his game, but so are many other players, and that doesn't make them world class players, it just makes them world class at that thing! Your world class claims come across (to me at least) as a generalized claim about the player, not the specific skill. Exciting player. Boks could use a good 13. I wonder if his ceiling might not be too high though becasue of his size.
