God damn C64ers and their SID! :-) I didn't have a C64 back then, very people here in Brazil had them as they were horribly expensive for us, I wonder how my teen years would have been if we had them here. We did have fun with our MSXs and their AY chip, but damn, the SID is amazing.
You sometimes forget how good the Commodore 64 sounds till you hear this. The SID chip was years ahead of its time and probably still is for what it was. I am listening to this through old Mach 3 radioshack speakers, it sure sounds good.
True. Even Amiga's Paula couldn't give the same fidelity in places (=filters mainly). Let alone all the other 'competition', say as AY in ZX Spectrum, MSX and Amstrad CPC for example. SID was designed from ground up to be a musical instrument while all the others just expanded digital hardware to a speaker. It had all the main musical features which good analog synths in the 70s and before had: ring-modulation, oscillator hard-sync, pulse-width modulation, several oscillators: saw, square, triangle, multimode filters with resonance.
This sound great on my Sony MDR-V6 Headphones...Still jammin the same type of headphones to this day like i did back then through my stereo to my C64.Long live the 80"s
I'm pretty sure Dolby Headphone DSP is the culprit. It seems to give some boost to lower freqs/bass or something. I have noticed this in many DHP uploads. It has never bothered me, as pure emulated SID sound can be very "thin". There's also the filter distortion issue. Lots of different ones available in sidplayw. I've used the "Galway" one because its... well Galway for Pete's sake ;) Perhaps it also affects somehow. I have not deliberately boosted lower freqs/bass that's for sure.
Thanks for the kinds words. It might be a bit quiet for a while in my channel, as the world of Tyria (Guild Wars 2) has me completely and utterly hooked. But it'll wear off after a while, i hope lol.

Been listening to a lot of old school chipmusic (amiga, atari, c64, nes). These tracks are among the best I have ever heard.
Jeff's sounds are nothing less than amazing.
SID chip, beautiful and inspiring.

This is incredibly fucking awesome. Proves once again that the SID was not even in the same league as its competition. Thumbs up!

Best compilation ..... ever
This is brilliant.
Bass in X-Large 5 sounds so cool, like a TB303. Is the real thing as cool as that?
"intended for headphones only." nope, try it on your music system (loud) while lay on couch....... so much things i can see :-D

of course the turracan theme is in this, and it is the best one of all of them
