Seriously mate, I am a mechanic by trade(over 30 years) and I see a lot of videos on bike repairs, etc. that make me cringe. Yours are super intuitive and accurate for the laymen. I also know how much effort it is just to make a short professional video. So big thumbs up for all your efforts here!
A year later I went with the British Customs De-Cat Pipes and wrapped them. (they have a nice Stainless finish but wrapping was in my plan) The stock cans are strait through. They give the ability to look stock (they are), but if you open the throttle moderately or harder, they are strait through pipes. So if I'm sitting at a light and a squad car stops next to me, I can take off easy and it sounds stock. I added the boost plug but a CPU re-program is on the back burner. I like the look of the stock cans too and I'm never going to be as loud as the Harley's around here (N. Nevada) so why even try? The extra kick from De-Cat and the boost plug is palpable. Great idle and no snatchy throttle and...Yowza. I also added the Progressive front fork springs and THAT was a very welcome difference also. Very easy to DYI also. Mine is a '22 and a good bit of re-molding to fit me, I'm 5'7" and for appearance. I plan to make a short video soon but as long as I have it, it will always be work in progress. I've watched many of your videos and consider you a top source for Triumph "how to's". many thanks and appreciation for what you do.
Me personally that centre weld just ughh. It looks rough The gp exhaust welds are nice and if it looked like that id be liking it more. Aside from that sounds great and good spannering and description.
Views from the Man Cave did you get to ride it before? I havent heard anyone with one yet straight out say the bike performs better but every one ays it sounds better. Im wondering if the lower torque range makes it harder to tell a marked difference. Ive got a SS waiting to be tampered with haha
David Forbes, I did and it certainly seems to add some zip. The bike feels a little more alive and responsive. The loss of the cat should equate to 4 or 5 hp more (although I haven't seen the dunk charts). I took it down to Jack Lilley to show the guys and they also thought it made an improvement.
David Forbes centre weld just completely rules it out for me too which is a pity as it does sound cracking. Yet another top video Tony, thanks man 👍🏻👍🏻
Hi and Thanks for your guide! I installed by myself this fantastic gear on my Street Scrambler and I noticed great sound, lower shield temperature and more hp. The only negative aspect is a little loss of torque at low RPM, but maybe it's only a wrong impression. What do you think about It?
Hey Hi, I just bought & added my street scrambler 2018 with 2-1 slip-on from Vance and Hines designed for street scrambler hoping that it would sound better, started bike and it sounds exactly same as stock exhaust even less richer, what a waste of money ( though bought from eBay half the priced ), due to lack of knowledge about CAT being the culprit here I ended up spending on Vance exhaust, Is there anything I can do , as not sure if I can afford to spend more on free spirit to remove cat, or is it the only solution? Basically bike just sounds great with free spirit and didn’t had any need for Vance exhaust separately, Would appreciate your thoughts on it, I live in Uk, London Cheers
Is this the high level exhaust? If so then that exhaust doesnt have a cat (if its the same as this) ruclips.net/video/EEfo05Gu7_w/видео.html Have you removed the baffle?
Not in a technical way no, I did a 30 minute ride with the stock pipe and tested the heat from the centre shield by hand. The next day when the H pipe was fitted I did the same. It was noticably different, although I appreciate no at all scientific.
So the Street Scrambler has 2 Cats? One at the bottom and one shown in this video? So you have put a Motone X pipe and a H pipe here? Have I got that right ?
Tony, I noticed the exhaust pipes in your bikes are spotless. Mine, however, have developed several stains right on the curvature as they comes off the engine. Do you do anything to your exhaust pipes to prevent this. Or do you clean them with some product you can recommend?
Hi Ezequiel, nothing special to be honest. But after cleaning the bike I always give them a squirt and rub down with WD40. Seems to work. Mine has stains also, maybe they just don't show up on the videos
Check out Delboys Garage, they have a video on bringing back the finish on stainless exhausts. Your answer is Autosol. Del shows you how, just look in the Bonneville playlist. Remember Autosol is a polish so therefore is a mild abrasive, so don't use it on chrome! Hope this helps.
How did the pipe look after being aged on the bike. Did it blue like the stock pipe or turn black? (BTW I have that same helmet for my Harley LRS. Lots of comments on it)
Hi Tony, great video mate. I installed one effortlessly on my street scrambler using your video. Very helpful indeed. Thank you. One question: the H-pipe seems to get very very hot on that u bend. I've read that it reduces heat as the cat produces a lot, but it seems hotter now. Is this your experience?
Hi Andy, I only had the bike on loan for a couple of days, so didn't have a chance to check it. It ran fine, even felt like a better throttle response, but that could have just been a placebo? I've run my Street Twin without the cat for several thousand miles and it's been great, no ill effects. Unless you start messing around with the intake side the ECU should have enough tolerance to deal with the minimal change in back pressure, and fuel accordingly.
Does anyone know how this compares to the British Customs competition headers? I'm trying to figure out the difference but noboday leaves reviews these days....
It looks very similar, I would say almost do difference in design, It'll just come down to the build quality. I cant speak for the BC unit, but Freespirits is top notch..
+Robert Newitt Hi Robert, this bike wasn’t remapped and it ran just fine. If the silencer was being replaced as well then perhaps a remap would be more beneficial.
Views from the Man Cave Thanks Tony. When removing the O2 sensor do you have to disconnect it from the loom, or does the nut collar rotate freely to allow removal? Cheers Rob
Cheers Tony I’ve been waiting for the TEC one to be released which won’t have the weld As it uses bespoke Bends. Not that the weld bothers me too much, it’s a bit cheaper! 😄
I pick up a new scrambler next week and I've been dooing my research and watching all your great videos, do you know if there is also a way to remove the baffles from the original pipe on the scrambler ?
In reality you'll see 2 maybe 3hp difference, so its more about weight saving and noise. The throttle response did appear to sharpen a little, but that may have been a placebo effect?
The front wheel of the Street Scrambler is a 19 inch, which would create some issues, but in theory It could be done. But if you are going down that route, you may as well just buy the Triumph accessory wheels
Hi Alexandre, sadly I didn’t have the ability to measure the sound. It wasn’t much louder than stock, in fact very similar on tick over. But it gave a nice ‘bark’ when you ripped the throttle
thank you for your reply mister ! I just wanted to be sure before buying, do not want to be harrassed by the police. Keep up your good work, i really enjoy all of your videos !
The build quality of the Freespirits pipe is top notch, I haven't seen the BC one up close. One thing I will point out is that the Freespirits one has a link pipe (as does the stock) the BC one does not which is why I would choose Freespirits.....
Views from the Man Cave I installed the free spirits one on my street scrambler 2018 and I’m so happy about it. You really can notice the change in sound and the bike feels smoother.
Hello Tony, great tutorial!!! I have one small issue and I need your help. I've brought a street scrambler a week ago, and I've been trying to order the H-pipe but no chance. Weld on down pipe is ugly the other pipe is bent without any ugly welding on sight. The cat was there for a reason now the fumes are socialy unacceptable?
Great sound & comparison test. Most people test in a different setting which changes the sound. GJ.
thanks
I got it and it makes the scrambler a better bike. The sound is much better and it accelerates much faster.
Is there someone who has the for pipes wrapped with heat shielding, it covers the weld. I think it looks great.
Did it cause it to be a lot louder or was it not really noticeable?
Brap brap, great tutorial as always! 👍🏻
braap Braap indeed Cotti 🏍
Superb video Tony! You should have a mainstream TV show my friend!!
+dogfish180 haha, I wouldn't go that far but thanks!

Its mainly noise and heat that changes, maybe a slight change in throttle response? Anything else I think is a placebo effect
Nice vid. Keep them coming
Ezequiel thanks!
Lawd That weld was it done with a soldering iron.
Standard bike sounds good but the H-pipe sounds better, has a nice "brap" to it. Does the mapping require any work or is it a straight swop job.??
There is enough tolerance in the ECU to run the h-pipe with no issues

Have you removed the baffle?
Can you get anything similar for a 2010 Bonneville? I think it would sound great paired with my Tec bike parts 2-1 exhaust!
Hi. Did you measure the exhaust pipe temperature before and after the new decat pipelines installation?
Not in a technical way no, I did a 30 minute ride with the stock pipe and tested the heat from the centre shield by hand. The next day when the H pipe was fitted I did the same. It was noticably different, although I appreciate no at all scientific.
So the Street Scrambler has 2 Cats? One at the bottom and one shown in this video?
So you have put a Motone X pipe and a H pipe here?
Have I got that right ?
There isn’t a pipe at the bottom. The h pipe is the same as an x pipe, but it’s for the street scrambler
its already for sale, how must it cost
Great video!! Is it the sound less deeper? Or is It the same tone but louder?
Deeper, and a little louder
Tony, I noticed the exhaust pipes in your bikes are spotless. Mine, however, have developed several stains right on the curvature as they comes off the engine. Do you do anything to your exhaust pipes to prevent this. Or do you clean them with some product you can recommend?

I fitted this to a demo bike froma dealer, so i didn't get to see it age, the bike went back to them a couple of days later...
Thanks John, I can’t say I noticed it getting any hotter than the stock pipe
Did you need to use a new seal or you don’t need too?
No the old one was fine
Does it give you any more power? Is it just for sound? And weight saving.
With the less restricted airflow you’ll see maybe 2-3hp more? So more about sound and weight.
Great video 👍
Cheers Richard
I'm thinking about getting an h-pipe or british customs slip-ons. I want a better sound and some performance upgrade. Which would you recommend?
Both!
to dismantel all you need inch spanner ? or normal spanner ?
Just normal spanners yes
Hi what affect does it have on the spart plugs reading, colour does it make the bike run leaner which could damage the engine. thanks andy
Hi Andy, I only had the bike on loan for a couple of days, so didn't have a chance to check it. It ran fine, even felt like a better throttle response, but that could have just been a placebo? @@mancavemoto cheers mate
Is the ECU happy after installing H-pipe? Throttle response better??
Yes no problem with the ECU and it seemed to makes things just a little snappier
Does anyone know how this compares to the British Customs competition headers? I'm trying to figure out the difference but noboday leaves reviews these days....

+Robert Newitt no need to disconnect the nut collar rotated independently. Just tuck it out of the way until you’re ready
Cheers Tony I’ve been waiting for the TEC one to be released which won’t have the weld
As it uses bespoke
Bends. Not that the weld bothers me too much, it’s a bit cheaper! 😄
I pick up a new scrambler next week and I've been dooing my research and watching all your great videos, do you know if there is also a way to remove the baffles from the original pipe on the scrambler ?
It can be done, but it involves some major surgery. Tbh it’s probably easier just to switch them out, unless you have the skills (which I don’t)
@@mancavemoto thanks for the reply, don't think I'll risk butchering the new bike, might just have to do a de-cat 😃
Hi! I have a Vince & Hanes terminal, should I remap if I install the Free spirits pipes? Many thanks in advance.
you don’t NEED to remap, but i found the triumph ‘offroad’ map made an improvement
Many thanks!;)
Good vid, did you notice much difference to the heat levels?
Losing the cat definitely reduced the heat output, not that it’s bad anyway
nice review. good sound and a worthwhile mod.. I do like the look of the SS. Did you swap the Street Twin?
hollowaysteve thanks Steve, nope I just had the SS on loan for a couple of days
Is this a 2019 SS? I have a 2019 model but unsure if I have the right cat box number to do the swap. Does anyone know ?
Its a 2018 MY bike, not sure if any different to the 2019?
I ordered the decat, it comes with 2 o rings in cooper.. 🤔🤔 you don't talk about it? Should I install it?
Natty Dread yes always replace the gasket when you change the header. Did I not mention them? 🤔🙄
@@mancavemoto maybe my english is not good enough, sorry... but where shold I put them? I don t find nothing in the manual...
@@mancavemoto you said replace.. so I should remove the old right? 🤔 sorry maybe stupid question, but I wanna be sure
Natty Dread yes remove the old ones
Hey Tony, is the temperature of the black shield on top of the cat converter lower now?
Hi Ezequiel, yep it was certainly cooler than before, that was one thing I wanted to check. The cat does seem to retain a lot of heat
Does this pipe give you more? HP? Is it just for Saving weight and sound.
In reality you'll see 2 maybe 3hp difference, so its more about weight saving and noise. The throttle response did appear to sharpen a little, but that may have been a placebo effect?
appreciate your feedback many thanks for an honest reply.
What can you say about fuel consumption? Does it increase much?
I didnt notice any change
Do you know if this will work with the V n H pipe for the Scrambler?
Thanks
Hi Josh, the. Vance & Hines pipe doesn’t have a catalytic converter, it’s a straight through header. So this wouldn’t be required
Can you reuse the header gaskets or do you need new ones? Are they included in the kit?
No need for new gaskets
Views from the Man Cave Thanks for the reply. I have one on order. I might wrap mine for looks. Not sure yet.
Why can’t I find this for my 2014 t100...damn.
Would this modification change the emissions for mot testing?
There is still no emissions test in a motorcycle MOT in the UK. but I guess it would make some difference yes.
Can the same wheels
Of the scramble be use in the street twin ?. Meaning if they fit
The front wheel of the Street Scrambler is a 19 inch, which would create some issues, but in theory It could be done. But if you are going down that route, you may as well just buy the Triumph accessory wheels
Would the H pipe work with the Vance and Hines pipe fitted to the bike
Hi Speedtriple T509, yep it certainly would
Thanks for that information man cave
Hi
What Torque Wrench would you recommend?
I use a Norbar TTi100 Torque wrench which has been excellent and is very easy to set. Its not made any more but there are alternatives www.norbar.com
Will the Scrambler exhaust fit a 2016 T120 ?Cheers
Good question, I don't see why not, but I couldn't say for sure. sorry
ECU adjustments needed?
No
Hello
I am from Brasil and how can i bay tais part

If you look on the Freespirits website, they should have a list of distributors near you
do you have an idea of the DB level after the installation ?
Hi Alexandre, sadly I didn’t have the ability to measure the sound. It wasn’t much louder than stock, in fact very similar on tick over. But it gave a nice ‘bark’ when you ripped the throttle
thank you for your reply mister ! I just wanted to be sure before buying, do not want to be harrassed by the police. Keep up your good work, i really enjoy all of your videos !
What do you think fam, is it better the British custom or this one. Or both are the same
The build quality of the Freespirits pipe is top notch, I haven't seen the BC one up close. One thing I will point out is that the Freespirits one has a link pipe (as does the stock) the BC one does not which is why I would choose Freespirits.....
Views from the Man Cave thanks a lot!
Views from the Man Cave I installed the free spirits one on my street scrambler 2018 and I’m so happy about it. You really can notice the change in sound and the bike feels smoother.
Where do I get this? Please answer me
There should be a list of stockists on the Freespirits website. Where are you based?
do you have to remap ECU?
Hi +Denis, no need to remap
Sounded better stock. No brap needed or wanted.
Horses for courses and all that. Thanks for watching
Hello Tony, great tutorial!!!
I have one small issue and I need your help.
I've brought a street scrambler a week ago, and I've been trying to order the H-pipe but no chance.
Tried different dealers but couldn't order it.
Do you know which one from Free Spirits list have the de-cat ?
Thanks in advance
You could try Jack Lilley Triumph, now Triumph East London, they do stock some Free Spirits parts
Thank you very much, I will call them Monday!!!
Sweeet!
That's a hideous weld on the curve. I could never live with that.
you have to ask why as well !!
I like stock pipe sound :/
The stock sounds great too
A one eyed pakastani brick layer welded that Lawd. Good vid. 😂
Not keen on the casual racism, but glad you thought it was a good video
Why would you decat the bike? Do you know how much worse the exhaust gases are for your lungs without a cat? And also for the environment?
Weld on down pipe is ugly the other pipe is bent without any ugly welding on sight. The cat was there for a reason now the fumes are socialy unacceptable?
I'm not making a judgement call on its environmental impact, I'm just showing the install and letting people make their own decisions
What an egoist accessory..
It works with Vance also?
yes
Ordered
did it need a programmer or no?
Wade Tkachuk No it ran fine with no remap
