20:51 Rhaenys wasn’t projecting her bitterness onto Rhaeneyra, she’s teaching her a lesson. Giving her actual insight as a woman who has been through it all herself. Much like Cersei and Margaery teaching Sansa how to navigate their world better. While Rhaenys has her own motivations and plans with her family, she can’t help but see herself in Rhaeneyra. I’m not a book reader, it’s just what I took from the scene.
The scene with the maggots was my favorite. In that scene we see that King Visyres wound on his hand has only gotten worse and its the wound he got when he sent his brother away, the wound, like their relationship has festered. Also the symbolism there, the King's hand is rotten. It could be physical and a reflection of Otto Hightower, who pretty skillfully manipulates the king into marriage with his daughter.
No there’s already incest. Aegon the Conqueror married both of his sisters, his heir Aenys married outside the family, but his brother Maegor married his neice (and several other women). Then Jaehaerys married his sister, and even Viserys married Aemma Arryn, who is his cousin and half-Targaryen
While the faith rebel, that ended wheb Jaehyrys (the old king) introduced the Doctrine of Exceptionalism - basically a vi3w that Targs are gods among men and thereby can't be subjected to the laws of men, like adhering to the practice of incest, forbidden by the faith.
Another fantastic episode! The opening credits show the Targaryen tree beginning with Aegon the Conqueror and ending with Rhaenyra. I thought that was pretty nifty. Would definitely love to see more about the doom of Valyria. I'm excited that George is super involved with this series so they could potentially expand on a lot of lore that he didn't originally include in the book.

Corlys was at least honest to the king about their ambitions and put the matter to the king for consideration. Corlys had very valid personal reasons to want his family joined with the ruling house (his son and wife were passed over despite having the stronger claim to the throne) and his ambitions aligned with what was best for the kingdom. He didn't plot behind his back like otto did. Every counsel Otto gave, although seemingly sound, ended up being disadvantageous to the king but very advantageous to his family -- he wins, everyone else loses.
I feel like Viserys chose Alicent for two reasons, (1) they have an emotional connection, (2) Alicent is technically old enough to give him an Heir without waiting a few years. Viserys seems set on having more heirs, he knows things aren’t going well, he’s sick and his line is vulnerable, waiting a few years may not be an option for him. On ottos side he wants to divide Daemon, Viserys, and Rhaenyra, first it was Daemon with the rumor about his speech at the pleasure house now it’s Rhaenyra with Alicent Marrying Viserys. Classic divide and conquer strategy tbh.
Cojo, you weren't the only person who noticed the shape of the jousting stadium. Alot of people picked up on that one; it wasn't done unintentionally. ( ) 😉
Daemon just wants his brothers attention, so they could talk without Otto looming. Daemon isn't a villain he's more of an anti hero and sometimes displays the childish little brother symptoms. He loves his brother and niece, he just doesn't think his brother is a strong enough king and he's right. Otto has been playing chess and planting seeds by having his daughter get close to the king while he was vulnerable after losing his wife.
Daemon took Baelons Dragon egg hoping to draw Viserys away from the small council so they could reconcile with each other without the influence of the Small council. The small council pushes Daemon away from his brother. When Otto came instead of the king he wasn’t going to let Otto take the egg because they hate each other. Otto came to Dragonstone to instigate conflict with Daemon to further push him and his brother apart so that he would be able to gain more power, he knows when Daemon is around that Daemon will be honest with his brother and that Daemon is a stronger leader that’s also why he made daemon the commander of the city watch. Once Rhaenyra came to dragon stone and took the egg Otto was upset because his plan didn’t work, he wanted conflict and Rhaenyra stopped it. Daemon likes Rhaenyra, Daemon likes Viserys, vise versa, the thing is that with the small council in Viserys ear it’s hard for Daemon to communicate with his brother. Also Corlys is the only person who suggested that Daemon be Heir to the iron throne in episode one so it makes sense that he would go to Daemon at the end of episode two, he’s always liked Daemon it wasn’t a new thing.
Criston Cole is the next Jon Snow - sweet, sweet summer children.... Rulers marrying children is unfortunately not fantasy. What's her name Margaret Beaufort gave birth to future King Henry somebody when she was 13.
Queen Aemma isn't technically Targaryen. She had her father house as her last name, which is House Arryn. She had Targaryen blood from his mother, Viserys' Aunt. And the conversation about Vhagar is nice foreshadowing 👌
otto is obviously trying to advance his own agenda while simultaneously alienating viserys from those who would have been his strongest allies -- daemon and corly and, now, rhaenyra. You see it in this episode how otto quickly realizes that rhaenyra would become a problem for him
Rhaenys is somewhat annoyed that she was slighted in favor of Viserys for the Iron Throne, but her husband Corlys is extremely annoyed, which is the main reason why he's pushing their 12-year-old daughter toward the King as a bride. It would be a politically astute match; except that Viserys is visibly and emotionally horrified at the thought of marrying a little girl, despite her obvious intelligence and dignity. Alicent isn't much older, but she has the body of a young woman, seems physically mature enough to have a sexual relationship and safely have children; and already has a comfortable relationship with the bereaved Viserys.

Remember that GRRM used the 100 yrs War in England specifically, and medieval Europe in general, as a backdrop to GOT. In those times people grew up fast and died young, so teen marriages for both sexes were common (Remember young Tommin and Margery Tyrell in the original GOT). Young females were considered to be ready for child-bearing when they started menstruating.

The Valeryons weren’t the most powerful house but they were the richest tho at this time. They controlled the trade and the seas with a very powerful Navy. The Targaryens tho had Dragons and the Throne so I would place the Valeryons 2nd in terms of power. In terms of wealth they were easily first at this time. Once Viserys named Rhanerya his heir he should’ve known not to marry. He’s a “good” guy but a terrible and weak king and really was at fault for the Dance of Dragons.

I haven't seen anybody hating on people for having a certain first impression of Criston Cole. It's more that those of us familiar with the actual source material won't be seduced by his pretty face and manner. He represents a trope one ought to be suspicious of in the world of GRRM.
@@jaimebergner That is what I am saying. They are already judging this character because of the knowledge they have of him in the book (Which is very vague and little).
Cmon man you got your room decorated with targeryean banners or what not and you can't even Remember the names lol I'm just giving you shit good videos so far I look forward to watching the rest for season 1!!
No Otto would not at al sit the throne. It would be someone if Targaryens lineage or their relation, child, cousin, aunt, etc. Otto cannot sit the throne and nothing is set in stone for him until Alicent has a child and it’s of age.
23:01 But he's not.
Blake is so damn hot. Watching this channel just for him, to be honest. Who else agrees?.
Cojo is so hot
First! - lets go!
Criston Cole is the enemy
Rhayera was/is in love Alicient
Blake: “ A lot of people are saying re baelish and otto etc”… get off the socmed… what is your purpose… to react yeah?? Avoid spoilers and trailers too as best you can! Don’t google fkn dragons ffs 🤦♂️
People just hating on people who are liking Criston. Just forget what you know and take him as you go on like the others. What they end up doing with him might not make you hate him as much as you think in the end...
We don't know what they will do with him on the show. What they do might not be what they thought it was and certain leaks support that. I'm just saying to give him a chance and not blindly criticise him until we see everything unravel and don't worshil the found Daemon steps on who is cool but has done worse things than Criston...
@@NoName-te2pj In the source material he was arguably one of 2 truly evil main people along with Otto Hightower. The rest were all characters in the grey, Weren’t evil but did awful things like Daemon, alicient, rhanerya etc. I highly doubt they are gonna change his arc since GRRM has a decent amount of say in what happens and Daemon being his favorite character in all GOT universe. And we can already see they are setting up a little rivalry between them.
************SPOILER. DON’T READ THE REST UNLESS YOU’VE READ FIRE AND BLOOD************************************
He’s one of the big reasons the Dance of Dragons even started since at first Aegon II didn’t even wanna be king and he convinced him to be king and start the war against Rhanerya and “the blacks”.
@@krytiic7861 I am just saying that we even managed to sympathise with Thanos and Arthur Fleck for being villains. Give the character some time. If he just flips side for 'reasons' then fine, he is an asshole. But if he has valid reasoning (Which is more complex and along the lines of George's writing), then people can start to appreciate the character. Anyway, we'll just have to wait and see how things unfold and if everyone is singing the same tune by then...
Also, I think George said Daemon is his favourite Targeryan not his all time favourite character in ASOIAF
@@NoName-te2pj I 100% get what you’re saying. I just think in a story that has a lot of grey characters and few “Jon snows” and “cercis”, it just enhances the the few evil people in my eyes tbh. I know it’s not like that for everyone but for me it just makes me not like them even more(which is good bc that means the villain is playing their part well). We are already seeing it with Otto. With Cole, it’s probably gonna take a while. It’s just brilliant writing from GRRM. He has people thinking Daemon is the evil villain and Cole is the heroic saint. It’s great writing bc I would feel like cole is the good guy too if I didn’t read the source material.
