I made this, and I was genuinely shocked how good and accurate it tasted. After a day or two in the fridge, I couldn't taste the tofu at all, it just tasted like chicken. I'm super impressed, and I didn't even have to buy any extra ingredients to make it. Great recipe! Edit: I highly recommend reheating in an airfryer, makes it even crispier.
@@turnerturner3281 I'm honestly not sure, I did double-fry because I went with firm instead of extra firm and I was worried about it being too soft if I didn't. They firm up a lot in the fridge, though.
Don’t understand why people hate on this dude. He’s not one of those vegans that forces it down your throat, he’s literally just doing what he likes and showing other people how to do it. Keep it up man. (And yes, Raising Canes is overrated AF).
So I made this recipe for the first time for the tofu fingers and they are INCREDIBLE!!! This hits that itch for chicken tenders PERFECTLY, it’s so much lighter and the flavor is crazy good! I let in marinade for 2 days and I do not regret it. If you were a chicken finger person before, MAKE THESE!!!

I can’t remember which of the youtube vegan chefs I first saw do this but it melted my mind. might have been Burger Dude or possibly Edgy Veg, whoever it was they wrapped it around a popsicle stick and used it to make drumsticks. I tried it and it ruled
I love the idea with the gardein frozen strips. You're a genius. I did that with the fish filets when I wanted a tuna melt. I smashed it up and blended in some follow your heart cheese. It baked up so well.
Those tenders look amazing, I love your recipes - they make it seem so easy and motivate me to cook more instead of getting frozen vegan stuff all the time.
Thanks! I love frozen stuff too, but these are worth it! I regret not freezing them and air frying in the video but you can totally do that! I should make a video for it eventually.
@@TheeBurgerDude , are you aware that freezing beans for a minimum of 21 days (32 is better) will eliminate gas? I discovered this quite by accident when a friend was frequently serving me 15-bean soup and I had zero gas. I am normally so gaseous that I could have eaten beans for lunch and immediately BLOWN myself across Baton Rouge on a skateboard, and I had no gas from her soup till a month later. She served me the same soup as always, but I became an H-bomb. I asked her what changed. At first she said, “Nothing!” Then she realized that she had been serving soup that had been in the freezer for months and what she served that day was fresh. Working on the premise that some gaseous enzyme is destroyed by freezing, I have cooked my dried beans and frozen them for at least 21 days (preferably 32 days) before eating and it almost totally eliminated the gas. Now that we are vegan (for about 6 weeks now), that’s an important trick since beans figure largely in protein intake.
Oh my Gawd!! I was just wishing for a vegan version and here you are delivering! Thank you so so much. You're awesome and I tell my family you're a culinary magician.
I love your videos and you never miss on flavor. I have your cookbook and you helped me transition two of my three kids to vegan life. Thank you so much!!! You truly are amazing!! After this video I may have all three on a vegan diet!!! Yay!!!
I'm trying this for my first ever tofu recipe! It's been a big learning curve so far lol i tried gently carving the tofu into strips and it just crumbled, but! I stuck it all in the marinade and will shallow fry it tomorrow. I'm not sure there's much point in trying to grill them, since most of it fell apart, but if I do find any bigger pieces I will give them a quick sear. And then for the next recipe I try, I will remember to freeze the tofu up first before trying to cut it 😅
Sounds like you aren't using super firm tofu. I would suggest going with a much simpler tofu recipe for your first go. Freezing can make the tofu very delicate as well. Read this too - www.seriouseats.com/shopping-cooking-guide-different-tofu-types
@@TheeBurgerDude I got the Nasoya Organic Super Firm Tofu from Kroger, but I'm guessing this brand isn't as dense or spongey as the brand you're using. But from what I've seen (Sauce Stache's on restaurant style tofu, mostly), if I boil it in salt water or so a freeze/dethaw it, it'll probably help get the excess moisture out. Thank you for the help and the incredible recipe! ❤️
Oh you got the right kind. Not sure why it's crumbling on you, it's pretty firm. There's not much water so pressing or boiling probably won't do much. Let me know how it goes!
@@TheeBurgerDude okay! So lol I got a bit distracted (I just had top surgery last week and it was a whole thing), but I had fried these ahead of time and had them waiting in the fridge. And I just heated them up in the air fryer and wow! Wow. Just wow. They smell amazing, they taste amazing, and the texture is great! I can't believe it! It's more tiny popcorn chicken than tenders cause of my mess up, but overall it's incredible. And they survived over a week in the fridge! Which I definitely didn't expect! I thought I was gonna have to throw them all out. But it heated up fine! And tastes fine, too! I'm so impressed. I will definitely be trying this again when I feel better! Thank you so much for such an incredible recipe! This has massively changed my opinion on tofu!
Are used to work at canes and I could tell you you used way more seasoning than they do from what I remember the chicken just marinate in salt water and that’s it. It is overhyped, but I love the fries in the toast way more than a Chicken.
Nice timing on the stainless advertising as I literally just ordered a set from tramontina and am not looking forward to learning how to use them. But I gotta give up the toxic non stick stuff, it’s time.
I feel like I can never get mine quite as scraggly as yours, you've got that coating so perfect You put flour into the milk mixture, what would happen if you put cornstarch in instead?
Tofu is definitely easy I’m just not crazy about the uniform spongy soft texture you get. Had some fantastic gardein supreme chickn nuggets the other day with hot sauce. Really good. Also their supreme “wings” with the included Buffalo sauce really good. Might be best yet.
If you don't object to store bought options, for me the best result is simply buying the crispy chicken patties from the vegetarian butcher that to my understanding are basically also used in the plant based burger king option for a long chicken here in Germany. No idea on the availability on where you live though... Other than that, the vegan mayo from hellmann's is my favorote, salad as to your preference, and although it is not the traditional recipe, I like vegan brioche style buns getting available more and more here, if I want to indulge :) Maybe helps you out :)
I have a recipe for that, but I don't use them very often because they are hard to find. They are either way too expensive at whole foods, or I have to drive 20 minutes to get them at the Asian Market. I just prefer tofu for the most part! But if you want to use oyster mushrooms you totally can!
Do you really not need to press extra firm tofu? I'm more inclined to believe you than random internet sources, but a lot of the top results on Google tell you to still press it.
I tested out some of the more popular recipes online, so I'll have to take their word for it! The ingredients seem to be what I used, so it should be in the ballpark. Regardless, the sauce I made was super good!
NOT a keeper, IMO. First, the texture was off-putting. If I try frying tofu again, it certainly won’t be marinated, nor will it be scored (tended to fall apart.) Love the flour/corn starch mixture, btw, but for my money I’ll wrap the tofu in paper towels and put a heavy pan on it to press out excess liquid, then cut/ season/ batter/ fry. Heck with shaping it. So it looks like little squares of chicken; so what? The dipping sauce was good after adjustments (adding Chinese 5-spice and lemon pepper.)
If somebody served me these scrips, I would run home hollering and call my maternal aunt, my only remaining grandfather, or my groupchat of friends for emotional support and recovery

Do you think it's necessary to fry them twice? I feel like the pan frying step can be skipped if you marinade? Just seems like a lot of oil I dunno.
