Protein energizes the body, fat calms it. I like eating my protein as my first meal, and fat as my last meal (percentage wise). 🙂

My wife and I started carnivore on Feb 6th this year and have been fairly strict but have allowed a few spices and a couple rare instances where we had a few carrots and for my wife a couple of other carb intakes, but very small in quantity. We are both feeling better and losing weight. I've completely reversed my type 2 diabetes. I have a question for you or anybody who doesn't mind answering. I see your shirt with "n=1" and I've heard that reference many times but I've never heard anyone talk about what that is. Would you mind please explaining that?
As a side note, I can't thank you enough for your DIY electrolytes video. That helped so much and has saved me a ton.

This video is wonderful and just what I needed. I haven't found a video that was so precise to how to improve sleep. I have been struggling for several years with waking up in the night, wide awake and can't go back to sleep. I am carnivore for 4 1/2 years and usually eat 70/30 ratio. So, now with the information that you shared I am going to increase my ratio to 80/20 and see what happens. I will let you know how it goes. Thank you so much for doing this.

Very well presented. Glad you got good results. You have convinced me to give it a try as I am having similar issues since going carnivore, dropping the 50-75 daily grams of carbs. It would be interesting to see if you maintained the high fat but also increased the protein back up for more calories if still same results… might help with energy…. It’s like we are all little detectives now lol…..

You and I have come to the same conclusion- Lion diet with 80% fat.
I’m 7.5 years animal based. Age 69. When I switched to Dr. Boz ‘s recommendation to set Cronometer macro setting to keto, strict, i immediately had terrible insomnia. I switched to keto, moderate setting and have done better. Also I get off the lighted screens two hours before bedtime, read, stretch, listen to calming music, all under salt lamps or orange lights. I always get up around 3 and go right back to sleep. I play crickets on my wake up clock all night. I shut off the lighted display. A sun simulation comes on at 5:45am and reaches highest brightness at 6 am.
If I break my rules and stay up to watch a season finale then it’s difficult to get back to sleep after peeing in the middle of the night.
Now I’m working on pelvic floor exercises to sleep through the night without having to go pee.
I have tried raw dairy year 4-6.5. I gained 24 lbs- all the weight I had lost originally on carnivore. I did Lion last year for 6 weeks. Felt really good.

      I sleep a lot less since I became ketovore…
I now go to bed a lot earlier (I just get tired earlier) and I wake up much earlier in the morning, usually between 4 and 5:30.
And guess what?? I wake up sharp as a tack and ready to literally jump right out of the bed to get my day started!!!
I then can’t wait to make my delicious morning coffee with some grass fed butter, heavy cream, mct oil, vanilla, cinnamon and a dash of organic monk fruit and 10 drops of iodine and that starts my day with a nice big dose of healthy fat, which gives me a lot of energy to start my day and also keeps my depression and anxiety in full and complete remission. I whip it up with an immersion blender so it’s nice and frothy… YUM!!
You gotta keep your fat intake super high on carnivore or in my case ketovore or your sleep and energy levels will likely suffer.
As Dr Kiltz says… Carnivore should really be called
      FATOVORE!!! 😊😊😊
      Hope this helps!!

I cannot tell you how amazing Carnivore was for me, for 1.5 months. I won't go into detail, the hell that doctors put me through over the last 8 years with a misdiagnosis. Carnivore, in 1.5 months, allowed me to get off of some very dangerous meds, however, then the INSOMNIA kicked in, and to keep from losing my job and sanity, I had to go back to eating carbs again just to get some sort of sleep. Of course, eating carbs has now caused inflammation in my body to get out of control again. I pray that I can get back on Carnivore and not go through that kind of insomnia again. Low to No Carb diets are hard on the Adrenal Glands - either that or the amount of detoxing was so high, causing intense ear ringing, waking up 10 - 15 times per night, and when I did sleep, it not being decent sleep at all.

    • @neahsway
      @neahsway  5 месяцев назад +6

My suspicion is that this is caused by not truly being fat adapted. That's my experience at least. But if you can find a few carbs that don't raise your inflammation, that works too! I hope you find what works for you!

    • @msbeecee1

Yes the difficulty sleeping & intense ear ringing is a stress (cortisol) response. Ashwaganda will lower the cortisol. Take it with dinner meal to lower cortisol for evening and overnight. Increasing fats also helps calm body. (I also had severe adrenal fatigue issues I healed myself from.)

The reason why you wake up in the middle of the night on carnivore is because you don't need as much sleep when your body runs on ketosis... you can try going to bed later.. i average 4 to 5 hours of sleep since going on carnivore.... if you are powered by glucose your body needs 8 hours to recover, on ketones your body only needs 4 hours of sleep

The curse of oxalate poisoning is deadly serious. I am shedding/dumping it right now and the link with calcium is real. When I do a dairy binge an oxalate flare up always follows around 24 to 36 hours later as the extra calcium binds with the oxalates. I'm an old male with a lifetime of oxalate consumption and the flare ups feel a bit like my old health issues are coming back, but it's nothing like it was, and serves as a great reminder of how bad life can be when I consume "Non-food" IE. Plant sourced rubbish. Rest assured, you can push through. I even manage to keep up my exercise during oxalate shedding episodes. 2 years carnivore, never going back.

I find that when I keep my fat intake high, and keep my calories a bit higher (for me as a male and age 61, 220 lbs at 2500-2800 cal), I get excellent sleep.
I told you this before but I enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning (and sometimes another in the evening (8 to 9 pm) with 2 tbsp grass fed butter, 2 tbsp heavy cream, 1 tbsp MCT Oil, a dash of monk fruit sweetener, some vanilla and cinnamon and 10 drops of Lugols 2% iodine. YUM!!!!!!!
Also, I used to suffer from depression and anxiety and I truly believe that I’ve got to keep the fat content high (75-85%) to optimize keeping these conditions in full remission….

Reducing or cutting out salt from your meals might help with sleep. High intake of salt seems to help for people who are starting on the carnivore diet and are adapting to a higher intake of fat and changes in gut bacteria, but it also seems to increase cortisol over time. Reducing my salt intake has improved my sleep quite drastically. That said, I'm currently consuming small amounts of honey before bedtime as well, and although my meals consist exclusively of red meat, I haven't been pure carnivore for about 5 months now.

This is where a digital kitchen scale and paying close attention come in play. Yes, meat does vary from one piece to the next, but if you are eating all the fat that comes with it, you get pretty close on average. So, online tracker and a set of scales and a clear, dedicated head.

Great info! Thank you! As a former Lactaid consumer of MANY years (could not handle regular milk at all) I recently discovered the benefits of whole milk, unsweetened Kefir. People who cannot tolerate milk do not have the microbiome to process it. The microbes from the kefir really help with gut healing and processing of milk products. During the fermenting of Kefir, the microbes eat the lactose sugars in whole milk so there is very, very little of the lactose left in the Kefir. I started with 1/2 cup on an empty stomach in the morning and with my evening OMAD meal and tolerated it really well. I advanced to 1 cup twice a day and have been tolerating it really well. The surprise, after nearly a month of this is WAY better sleep. The other benefit is normal stool. Had been suffering from the beginning of carnivore, almost 2 years ago, with 5-7 days without going and painful, hard ones. I had tried upping my fat intake and increasing water intake to no avail. I’m thinking it was more of a lack of gut microbes along with increasing fat through the whole milk Kefir. I’m looking forward to trying very small amounts of straight whole or raw milk in the future. For now, I’m letting my gut heal as I enjoy these wonderful benefits, including my moods leveling out.
I totally relate with the sleep issues, sister! After almost a month on the Kefir, I am now on my 4th solid nights sleep in a row and feeling awesome because of it, along with leveling out my moods. The stool changes happened after only 2 days of the Kefir! What a blessing! 😁

@@neahsway , I live in the Midwest and found the brand, Kalona through Dr. Omara. It has the most microbes I’ve seen. I just started fermenting my own using the Kalona as it saves me $$$. Use whatever full fat milk you like, not ultra pasteurized, just regular pasteurized if you can’t get raw. Using a half gallon of milk minus 1 cup, pour the milk into a half gallon glass mason jar. Add one cup of the Kalona into the jar and put a clean washcloth or tea towel on top and secure with a rubber band. Put it in a room or your kitchen that is anywhere from 68-72 degrees. Depending on the room temperature, it can be done in as little as 12-24 hours, up to 3 days. What you want to look for is fermenting activity or grain formation. Mine got a thicker looking layer on top. The best way to know when it’s done to your taste at the 24 hour mark is to put the lid on it, shake it up and taste it. If it is the right thickness and level of tartness for you, strain it into a clean mason jar and stick it in the fridge to enjoy. If not, put the washcloth back on and set it back where you had it and check again every 4-6 hours, until you’re happy with it. The longer it sits, the tarter it gets (the microbes eat the sugars in the milk to live) My last batch took almost 3 days to ferment the way I like it (house temp is around 68). The batch before was just over 2 days. If the milk starts to separate, don’t worry, just strain the grains out and refrigerate. It will just be a little more tart. Shake it up every time before serving it.
I was going to buy the starter grains on Amazon but saw a tutorial on how to ferment it using store bought Kefir. I like doing it this way because it eliminates having to maintain the grains (kind of like maintaining sour dough starter). I buy a couple of Kalona Kefirs and use 1 cup for each 1/2 gallon I make. I have 3 half gallons going (stagger making them) all the time. When I open the last half gallon, I buy another Kalona and start making another batch. Love it! Hope this is helpful.

Another major contributor to sleep problems is electrolyte disturbance. Generally this is caused by eating too many small meals a day. Most of the time this is self correcting on carnivore and people tend to drift towards 1 meal a day, 2 max. But old habits can be hard to break and many will snack all day. And others may be concerned about being kicked out of ketosis, and therefore shun protein in order to keep high ketone levels around the clock.
The point is that the body does need a very small bump of insulin at least every 48 hours or so, to maintain the kidneys and hold on to electrolytes. This is achieved very easily by eating one large bolus of meat and fat in one sitting.
Remember there is such a thing as too much of a good thing. The goal of any ketogenic way of eating is not to just be in ketosis at all costs, all of the time. Do not restrict protein, and do not chase ketones. You cannot actually measure them as you cannot account for the rate in which they enter the Crebs cycle anyways, so don’t bother. Eat a species appropriate diet to satiety.
Secondly don’t eat a lot of organs, especially liver. We aren’t designed for it. And this will lead to a copper toxicity issue, which will also wreck your electrolyte balance.

I’m wondering if insomnia is related to the quality of the meat.
Not to throw anyone off their game, but lemon balm made into tea does reduce cortisol. It’s better than eating carbs.

How wouls it ever be possible tho back than to have 80/20 fat ratio?

You are so gorgeous. Let’s have a few kids and make some drinks. JK. Nice video. Glad you cut out the cheese and dairy. I personally do not even mess with it because of the carbs therein giving me cravings. Cheers

    You are dealing with oxalosis.
Oxalate disregulates your fatty acid metabolism.
This screwed with me until I learned that the only way to fuel your immune system to help it get rid of oxalate is through glucose tablets.
I only eat them after a meal after a 16 hour fast but they give me the energy to help get rid of the oxalate.
    Also, B1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, 9 and 12 are incredibly important. Also try betaine, trimethylglycine. And SAM-e.
Also, high oxalate is low sulfate. Take MSM, Glucosamine Sulfate, etc. Mo supplementation too.
As well, you may not be buffering your methylation well. Try taking 5-15 grams of glycine before bed. Glycine is a methylation buffer and prevents you from getting overmethylated.
Also vitamin ADEK especially K. Life Extension has a 45 mg version.
Also EDTA to chelate Ca and activated charcoal as a binder.

While fasted, I take garlic EDTA and then take a bath of Epsom salt and sodium bicarbonate. A half hour into the bath, I take the activated charcoal.
I drink an electrolyte solution of sea salt, and magnesium, calcium and potassium in their citrate forms afterwards and throughout the day but pure water during the bath.

1.6g to 2.2g per kg of ideal body weight is a good range for protein, and above the horrible value recommended by guidelines or apps, which is a bare minimum.

You look lean, having said that fat is our energy on carnivore so you need to eat MORE FAT, like honestly eating butter sticks 😂 I always eat a fatty meal at the end of the day and sleep like a rock... Another thing that helps is cup of hot milk with butter 😊

just an update, i have increased my fat intake far beyond what I would of ever of eaten naturally and i have now slept 5 days in a row with great success without needing any carbs. i've had to do this with cream and cheese to get the fat in.. i understand some people dont do dairy and neither was i until deciding to get more fat in.. and it's working tremendously!
