There was never a question she is a shoe-in. Because the filibuster isn't allowed, Republicans only need 51 votes for cloture (to end debate and start voting), which they have. The democrats said repeatedly this whole hearing is a "sham" because it's not really a hearing. None of the Republicans are actually considering voting against cloture, or Judge Barrett. They (the democrats) are trying to appeal to anyone who happens to be watching at home to maybe persuade them to vote against their Republican counterpart in the upcoming election as a result of putting the ACA in jeopardy. There is little doubt in my mind that Judge Barrett will be seated before November 10 when that hearing putting the ACA in jeopardy is going to start.

Do you think President Trump and the federal government should be working on a replacement? If so, how will they make it constitutional when the ACA is not? No where in the constitution does it say the fed gov should be dealing with health insurance. Seems like a state issue to me.
Knova11 I lost my family’s insurance when the ACA got voted in. And while I don’t believe the government, especially the Federal side, should provide me with insurance, I don’t believe our state or federal government has done much to curb the greed and costs. I think Trump making medical care costs transparent could help force insurance companies into becoming more cost effective for themselves and Americans.
Example. Without medical insurance, my GYN bills the insurance company $600 plus per year for my yearly female exam. As a cash patient, I pay $200.
So if I carry insurance, I pay the full $600+ until I meet my deductible... I’d rather pay the $200.
Before the ACA, my premiums were $178 a month for a PPO 80/20 plan with a $1500 deductible. With ACA, it was $800+ a month for just me, with a 60/40 HMO plan and a $10,000+ deductible. And then, even though I couldn’t afford it, I still had to pay a percentage of my income to NOT have it... which is money I could have used as a cash pay patient.
All the insurance companies except one opted out in Arizona. I haven’t had insurance since.

@crisb8713 Because the subsidies are awful. The one year that I signed up for Obamacare, I was given a $50 yearly subsidy. I made 20k a year at the time, just about poverty level wages. The monthly cost for my unusable, high deductible plan was about $300.
It took billions from people who didn't carry any or qualify for it...by taking their income taxes. And that money went where ?

It's funny, I recall hearing of her passing and being a decent human being (when I want to be), I took no joy in the passing of someone, much less the conditions as to how or why. That being said, it utterly confounded me, that the President and I showed more sadness upon her passing, than the very people who championed her.
As a woman who has benefitted by her rulings on equal rights and gender discrimination you actually don't know what you are speaking on. Look it up. She upheld the right for women to be in workplaces and educational institutions. It's okay to honor someone and not benefit directly from their opinions....but she was for women an amazing advocate. Defend Ms. Barrett all you like...but why go after RBG for her record? I personally am always concerned when a Justice has such strong religious beliefs because I believe in the separation of church and state.

The problem is not that they are appointed for life. The problem is that once they hand down a decision like Plessy v Ferguson, it is very difficult to correct it. The Democrats have always used the Supreme Court to rewrite not only the Constitution (14th Amendment), but also Federal Laws (Title 42 U.S.C. section 1983) to suit their own political view.

The ACA fixed nothing. Most of the people they claim "millions got insurance under the ACA!" were people replacing policies that got shredded by the ACA or were forced to get crappy policies to avoid the fines.

Barrett was very patient, calm , composed and answered all questions with reference to the law and the Constitution and she is right in doing so. There were times , if she was pissed off , she hid it very well. She answered all questions respectfully with no reference to any material.
