+surfdigby I'm friends with Steve: he once told me that when they're on stage together they literally blow each other's mind's with their respective creativity. I love the alchemy between them. What steve does music theory wise is very different from Steve' s... and together they are one. And yes, they are best friends still to this day (as well as with John Petrucci).
You can hear Steve getting choked up when he's telling everyone about Joe being like the grand canyon. These two seem like the sweetest most decent guys ever.
Yes he does. I met him. He signed my guitar. An Ibanez of course. He saw i was starstruck and awe. He came around from his desk followed me to my guitar case. Shook my hand gave me hug and thanked me for coming out to see him. He thanked me?
A pure sign you've made it when Steve Vai is your rhythm guitarist.Joe is genuinely blown away with all his messages and kind words.Perhaps he's human after all. lol
I think most people don't love their job or look forward to going to work and that's what age is everybody, also he loves his profession so much that there's literally nothing else he would choose to do even if someone gave him a billion dollars. This is what keeps him young man.....
He played with Deep Purple for a while, he is in Chickenfoot, Dream Theater, Brian May and Steve Vai have nothing but huge love and respect for this guy. Joe Satriani oozes class, and he doesn't look 60 even. Which reminds me in three years Steve Vai will be 60 too.....time sure flies....
How awesome is Vai, to walk out on stage and play the backing role? Two legends. Show me anyone between 1990 and 2017 that will be regarded like this in 30 years from now. I feel so lucky to have been a teenager and 20-something when these guys first appeared.
We ended up at this show in Saint Julien. We were following Dweezil Zappa around Europe (played the Montreux Jazz Fest the following night). BRAVO to the organizers and Joe's band for pulling this off. This was an incredible night. Add to the fact the Steve Vai showed up. KILLER night all around!!
How in the world is Joe 60 ??????? Friggin 60 ??????!!! Dude is gonna love to 120 easily !!!!! Happy bday !!!! The video brought a smile to my face ! Thank u !!!!
How can he be 60? I’m depressed how fast time is passing by. I remember sitting in my room as a teenager listening to satch boogie. I can’t believe this. Thanks for the inspiration joe
My story goes as such...I drove up to the "Guitare En Scene" from Spain with my 89 years old mother, one stretch in a day I knew she would enjoy it indeed. Couldn't miss Dweezil Zappa being so near in the Festival. Next day he was to play in the same area his dad Frank Zappa, had his historical performance go up in smoke as was documented in Deep Purple's "Smoke In The Water". But soon as we got there some great magical stuff started to unveil. I had thought one had to pay for single performances so we watched Satriani from a huge video screem and was mind blown first to noticed a Sustainiac on his ax, as I had been hooking up one in my own Steinberger, there it was a real chance to hear it going in his outmost fantastic show...so we move on soon to realise we could enter where Satriani was playing his intense performance. We knew nothing about his birthday. Nor that Steve Vai would be there. I first saw a very young Vai debut with Zappa at Hammersmith, many years ago. Last saw him in Barcelona with Scott Thunes, same week that Zappa died. And had met Mike Keneally that was amazed seeing him there, too. We actually sold a tape of their previous Brighton's Zappa last tour show of 1988 in Camden Town back then to a young Keneally, about which he was very surprised being available so quick or so then. And next was Dweezil, on his own on the stage testing his gear with another Sustainiac system on his SG. Steve Vai and Dweezil raised the intensity beyond believe on their intro together with the "Muffin Man" as Dweezil Zappa move into his performance, so, as a whole that was a meeting of guitar giants in the first degree in high sonority as this video shows but hides some much more that happened there in one go, all of them together. Amazingly loud and spectacular.
What a nice comment . If you like surprises , you have to attend July 19 Guitare En Scène Festival where Joe Satriani will be the one (this time) to surprise us . I've heard of 14 musicians on stage ....
That's right when u have Steve Vai playing with u . Both of these guitar slinger bad ass guitar player s I love to see an listen to them. 2 of my guitar idols for sure.
Wow!! This is so wonderful... Rock On Joe you're a God send with that amazing talent that you have that you've used to inspire and lift us up, God bless you always.
Nous étions au premier rang pour lui souhaiter son anniversaire, c'était absolument magique, quelle émotion, c'était génial ! Merci pour cette vidéo ;)
In 2000, Flying in a Blue Dream.. when I had a fever to break I listened to it on repeat piled in 5 quilts and drinking water to break an awful fever of 102. It helped. Vicodan did too.
i was listening to joe in 89 that just when guns and roses had sweet child of mind ,i saw joe at the fillmore in frisco that same year awsome talent still
I could only imagine how loud that was, I’ve seen Satch twice and he played this song at one of the shows and i just remember it being so loud especially when he did the harmonica solo! I’ve heard Vai has a rep for having super loud shows so I bet this show was probably one of the loudest shows between the 2 of them
I personally have many guitaring heroes but of all them only maybe 10 stand out as being head and shoulders above anything and everything that has ever been. Of them these two (for me at least) are the very best.
And Stevie is just handing out chords to him from the corner not taking anything away from Joe, this is just a blessing to watch :) BTW that guy form Dream Theatre looks so much like Vince Clarke with a beard...
I;have seen Joe live many times and he blows my mind. I wish I could play like him. To have Steve on stage too this is amazing 👍👍👍👍👍👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

You know you're a badass when you have Steve Vai playing rhythm for you
Vai quite clearly still idolises Joe. There's plenty interviews where he says that Joe's the best there is.
That's because they are long time friends. Joe taugh him the basics and was his teacher in the early days of their youth. Nice comment by the way :D
