Good luck and best wishes to everyone.

You are my window on the world. Please add more, I enjoy every video. I have been trapped at home for years now, Thank you for a great view! Yes more Cali videos!!!!!!
“One day at a time” is my motto, most of the time, it’s one moment at a time! You do give us some relief by posting your videos! Thank you!
Very true! I’ve never watched so much RUclips in my life than over the past week of lockdown lol. Appreciating all the new videos people are putting up
I live in Washington state, and were asked this week to stay home. Because of your My Self Reliance channel, I immediately Googled Farm Store, went and bought 2 horse troughs and organic soil. Then I stopped and bought vegetable starts, and 2 grape vines. I don't have land, but because of you...I have great ideas...I know what to do. Thank you.
You are definitely in the right place right now. Stay safe.
You are an expert on self-reliance which more people should emulate. You are an inspiration. The so called experts destroy economies because of greed and selfishness.
This virus is a very very serious situation. I'm a widow and live alone in a small apartment. My pension just covers my rent and utilities and food. I went to buy a 5-pound bag of carrots and it was 5 dollars. same with other fresh veggies. I have a small fridge so my freezer can not hold a lot of food. I have gone back to making homemade food. My 12 pies of chicken pks, has made me 4 big pots of chicken noodle soup and it is delicious. I have started making homemade bread. I was not making a lot of homemade food and getting back into it. I just wanted to say on a positive note that this emergency will bring people back to basics with home cooking and family time.
Remember the old days when our mom’s or dad’s or grandma’s and grandpa’s had big gardens and fed our families all summer with fresh produce and then canned a bunch of it for use all winter? Where you baked 4 or 6 loaves of bread for the week or kept your vegetable scraps and bones for wonderful tasty soups? Remember when you didn’t wear a piece of clothing one time and then toss it in the laundry or you used your towels for a week and then washed them? Older generations used to be very self sufficient and have so very much knowledge to share with us. I love reading about that kind of stuff and learning little hints and tricks you can use. I’m anxious to see your chicken coop and raising of the chickens. Good luck and stay home.
No.
Thank you Shawn, we are well, best wishes to you and yours as well. We have quite an early spring this year. The daffodils are in bloom already, and the tulips are almost here too. Already there are onions and cabbage in the garden, mustard , radish and kale too. Lots off seeds sprouting in the house. We look forward to seeing your garden also. I'm also looking forward to seeing your workshop. Dave and Xuandao Washington State USA
Yours is the perfect stance. For me you are a great relief. I go to another world in the woods and find peace when I see you and your projects.
It’s going to rough and everything most of us have work hard for is gone, and now I truly understand what my grandparents were talking about, they live through the 1918 flu, the Great Depression and two world wars. But they keep their faith and we have to do the same, blessings to all.
Not to mention the rationing that happened, this brought back all those stories they did to get by, I'm so grateful those stories were shared and that I still remember them, lol
Bonnie Watson my ancestry is Italian from both my mom and dad side. My grandparents sorry is similar to that. And back in Italy everyone had a garden, grew what they could and preserved what they could. Most raised a pig. And they used every part of that pig. Anyone with a bit of land had chickens and/or quails and/or rabbits. Many came to Canada and carried on those traditions. My parents generation knew how from their parents. But as their kids married and moved out, that tradition stopped. Most of my generation don’t have a garden. Most cannot dry or salt cure to safe their life. Most do not utilize their home cellar or cantina if they got one to actually can/jar anything themselves. Heck, most in my generation don’t own a deep freezer. Most simply buy as they need it.
DeeSa deesa me too, I was blessed to have them live a long life and got to know their great grandchildren and they told them the stories. I’ll forget these words “if you earn a dollar always save 25 cents” put don’t trust the bank LOL 😂 oh how I miss them.
reptilianskin sadly true, but thank God I’ve carried on the tradition and so have my kids
I have a small farm and I still cann , salt and smoke meat and fish. I’m from the backwoods of Virginia on a farm and God willing we’ll make it.
our great grandparents went through the depression which was a man made disaster, same as this chinese lab flu. they then had to suffer through financial mismanagement by the states which destroyed the economy., they then had to live through more state intervention solutions like the new deal which kept everyone poor. then finally all these crisis lead to extreme authoritarianism that persists to this day all over the world.
When will humanity mature and say enough is enough and move away from having governments rule over us.
Need this video, thanks. Choose Faith over Fear and Peace over Panic
Great show today Shawn. You really are a blessed man. What a beautiful place that you have been given. Watching the program on last years accomplishments really helps us see just what you did get done. I am glad that you are going to expand your garden. Even the area in the creek bottoms can produce fruits that like high acidic soils. With your bride with you.that can free you up to do some more of the heavier labor projects. I love how you are helping your daughters out as well. Take care folks and stay healthy. Vaughn
I appreciate your modesty. Being honest and upfront about not being an expert on things the vast majority of us aren't experts on. Can't advise on global health or the global financial situation. I also fully appreciate your holding back on providing us with much about your family or their situation. You've managed to do something so amazing - you are fully justified in protecting it, yourself, and your family.
“Whisper words of wisdom...let it be.” Thanks Shawn, for everything.

Shawn I enjoy your humility. You have inspired me to do things in my life I wouldn’t have thought about!
Kisses to the wife!
Continued safety for you and your family! Since you’ve started you inspired me to become more self reliant. I moved from southern AZ to northern Idaho. Bought 6acres with a small cabin with my fiancé and horses and dogs and daily I do something that gets me a little closer to being self reliant. I appreciate so much the work you put into your videos and I’ve learned so much from what you do. Mostly, I have a renewed faith in being patient and just going but by bit. Continued blessings!!
Thanks for sharing, love the crunchy snow. I started 12 weeks of isolation today for health reasons and to protect myself from catching the virus. I have made plans to put together a raised bed and a mini greenhouse so that I can be self sufficient with veg this year. I slso need to sort my house out and decorate my walk in pantry and make my food store make more sense.
Lead by example! That’s why so many viewers enjoy your channel. You inspire so many. Stay safe world and Lead by example.
My wife and I are currently working on the patching and painting of our new 1/4 acre parceled home. While this is going on, she's mentally preparing for the garden, while I am preparing the lawns and security for the miniature pinscher pups that are due home around easter.
While we're not necessarily preparing for what shall pass, we are preparing for the future to come.
Always appreciate the present, and plan for the future.
Stay armed and stay safe. Thank you for sharing Shawn.
Thank you so much Shawn. You give me so much strength and Hope just listening to you and watching all the work that you do. The last couple of years that I have watched you You have put a lot of life into this 71 year old man. I am lucky through this difficult period that I do have 28 acres and quite an extensive vegetable garden. It is just me and two little dogs but I have hope to grow plenty of food not only for myself but to share with others. You take care And be safe. Myself, I love you very much and I'm sure that many many millions do from around the world. Love to you and your family.
Thank you for your encouragement, Shawn. I go by we are all in this together, and take one day at a time. This situation has cost my sister her job, so it's going to be real challenging, but we'll do our best and help all we can. God bless, stay safe, and your videos really do help to keep spirits high and hope ever near.
You have been an amazing example to me and my entire family. I've learned a lot watching your videos, and have applied so many things you do to my own life. Thanks for all the great videos. Your hard work shows in everything you do!
Thanks Shawn. Been following your cabin crusade and really respect your way of doing things. Over the last few months it has also become apparent to me that you are one smart guy. I think you are right about the collateral damage to our way of life from Covid-19. We have to think more of the long term value of our lives rather than short term personal gratification. In many ways it has taken us back 100 years. Let's try and get the best out of it rather than the worst.
Thank you Shawn! I too am in Ontario and love watching your videos. My plan is to also become more self reliant and during this difficult time, your videos are even more inspirational! Please keep them coming! Blessings, peace and love to you, your family and to all!
I am currently under quarantine awaiting the results of my Covid 19 test. I am estranged from my family for many reasons. To hear your words and thoughts, I feel like I have a big brother again. Thank you for all you do and share with us.

Much respect for you and your families privacy. As I have always said that you have inspired me and I Thank you for taking us all on your journey! God bless you and your family’s health and safety!
Shawn, so many of your fowllers, admire you, what you have done & are planning to do. You are a special spirit, who is so blessed by, God almighty!! I'm a believer, in the Word of God! A dear friend who passed away, once told me, the Bible is our road map to life. There are many things that are & have come to fruition, as well, yet to come!! Thank you, for your inspiation!
I´m telecommuting from last 10 days, here in Spain. Hard times for, us, for all. For sure, everything is going to change, already has changed. Shawn, you are an inspiration for me. Keep going so well.
Planted a garden this year, live in AZ, have potatoes, zucchini squash, tomatoes, eggplant, lettuce, Italian dandelion, a mulberry tree, and some citrus trees. Have also been doing some prepping and have a few months of food and a month of water, plus a full pool if it gets to that which I don’t think it will. Best wishes for your projects this year! Thanks for “ trudging through the snow” and showing us how it’s done Shawn. I saw a Cali! 👀
Thank you Shawn.
Stay safe, my best to you and your family.
Thanks Shawn, I started preparing our garden yesterday and we have a new batch of chicks that will be ready to provide eggs in the July time frame. I'm also continuing to stockpile firewood for next winter. Stay safe and continue to provide us your wonderful videos for stress relief. Have a great week.
Thanks for the update, Shawn, prayers for you and the family. Glad to hear you are on top of things. Stay safe and prosper in all that you do.
A loving tip from one of your viewers: You can always make us happy with a short video of your dog happily jumping around. You playing with her, or just you looking at the sky and the surroundings. You don't always HAVE to update us, and I think you should take back your power, and ditch the feelings of obligation. We care for you and yours, and we don't expect "expertise, or content with depth" all the time. I just love to see you happy. Happily enjoying the WAY you live. Despite all the worries, and with all the troubles that come with it, like gosh, i must PLANT! ;-) . We all go through those extra fears right now, you are right, and we love to share that too, but you really owe us nothing dude, we're always happy with what you want to give. 👍🌈🦋🍀
Truth! Our lives are stressful enough, and we enjoy seeing someone who is not pressured too. Yes, Cali is a real treat but watching how you are living your life is what inspires us the most. Oh, and of course the scenery which is stunning.
Definitely, Cali videos would seriously be a great distraction right about now. Minimal effort required Shawn. Just grab a cup of coffee and play with Cali for 20 minutes. You don't even have to talk to us, we'll all be watching Cali!

Thank you, best wishes to you and your family glad to hear everyone is doing well.
We have good Spring weather where I live, and two weeks ago I started planting a garden for food. It's a wise thing to do. Even though the panic buying has died down a bit, there are still restrictions about getting fresh fruit and veg groceries .
Even though I stocked up with dried/canned/ bottled stuff late January, fresh food is still needed. And this situation will affect imports; if not right now, then likely through the summer to come.
Best wishes to you and all your family Shawn. Stay safe.
I do believe what you just said is so true. At 70 with health problems and retired there will be challenges. One just has to do the best you can do and not look back. Glad things are going in the right directions for you and yours. Love what your doing. Thanks!
Thank you Shawn for your sound advice and in times like this, taking time to reflect then sharing what choices and steps your taking for your family. Then giving us also something to build upon as well. Though I'm disabled, I won't let it own me, will continue to grow the garden, thankful for chickens laying their eggs and to work on the best way to provide for my family.
As a family, we're banding together, so blessed how God keeps providing. Prayers to your family, and our country.
Very humble man,Skilled in alot of areas but not arrogant. Great personality.
Thank you From Sierra Nevada
From your friends in the United States, to our northern neighbors, wishing you and your families continued health and happiness. Love your channel. Thanks.
Are you kidding me? Let me give you a boost here. You have accomplished so much! You did so much alone that blew me away! Give yourself more credit! You made a trip to Alaska that was well deserved to let your body rest. You had friends come in a few times to help. All you have done is amazing to me!
Share what you're comfortable with. Don't compromise your security for the channel. Enjoyed the vid, looking forwards at what's to come. Thanks Shawn!
Thank you for your sane attitude. That is most appreciated.
I can't thank you enough for the update, and your positive outlook. I imagine that like everyone, you have doubts at times, but you really help me to stay balanced.
Faith and not fear. Peace and not panic. We’ll each do just a little more for ourselves. Thanks for sharing your words.
Thank you Shawn. You're always inspirational, realistic and uplifting.
Good Luck, stay well and be safe.😀🐶
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your Journey of Self Reliance with the 🌎
You take me to a cabin from my youth, built by my Great Grandfather. I was blessed to grow up a little wild and keep close to the simplicity of grateful living. I remember a time when we were always outside. .only a storm would bring us indoors to have a meal.
We had 3 beautiful beaches and a wonderful canoe ...would have slept in it but Grandmother said nope ha ha.
Now, with the knowledge and a lack of health. ...your videos do take me home to a simpler time.
A'ho ( Blessings) with a Prayer Up for the Future.
I've watched quietly for a long time ✌❤🌎
Prayers and best wishes to you and your family. Don't ever think that you are not inspiring all of us who love and watch you on RUclips.
Well said Shawn! Too many people have grown complacent in their reliance on others for food, goods etc. We all need to go back to " the old days" where we grew and preserved our own food, and made do with clothes that had been repaired many times before they wore out. Simplicity is the best and we always should be asking ourselves "Is this a WANT or a NEED" . You are an inspiration! Stay safe and healthy and as always well done!
This really is an opportunity for us all to reevaluate what is important to us and conceive and begin to execute a plan to adapt and move forward. Best of luck to all. Thanks Shawn for the inspiration!

Well Said. Your priorities are spot on. We have been prepared and self reliant (mostly thanks to my wonderful wife) for most of our married life. It is important that your message get out to more people, but it is more likely that your followers are like minded and fairly self sufficient already. Following you for the full 3+ years has been both a joy and learning adventure. You are a very special person and an excellent example to many of how to live a full productive life. Most of us can't duplicate your style, but all of us can learn and appreciate what you offer by doing. Thank You for sharing. Give Cali a BIG SMOOCH from Mike & Ronnie. GOD BLESS!

Shawn, you are so humble and your quiet take on the world, and the inspiration you give to the rest of the world that are reeling from this awful situation we are all currently in, is so needed. Please , keep showing us by example, how, even in the face of adversity, we are so much stronger than we think.
Bless you and your family, and stay safe.
Hi Shawn and family, I appreciate your honesty and down to earth approach. I do listen to you and feel inspired by your actions, lifestyle and genuine vision. Thank you for sharing. Namaste
Thank you Shawn... last autumn I did what I would normally do to get ready for winter & then added a little extra in case of being snowed in. I sensed something was going on but wasn't exactly sure as to what. I had to look after myself as each person needs to as best they can. That being said, most people appreciate any help the can get or give to another. Rule of thumb for me is to make a little extra & give a little of what you can spare. ie - if you make some soup keep some for you & if or when you can, give a bowl to an elderly neighbour, someone who is sick, someone out of work with children, etc. It's not easy for everyone but I do believe the things we do to help yourself & others is one some of us were taught & have done all our lives regardless of whether you like them or not - you help however you can ... that includes everyone. Like you, some of us still remember how to do a garden, prepare food, etc. but a lot of the younger generation does not. Many have been brought up to just buy, buy, buy & not learn how to prepare ... not sure how long my own supply will last but for now, I'm ok & glad to hear you & your family are safe & ok. Some of my own family quit connecting with me some time ago & still not connecting & I find sometimes family get upset over stupid things - I wish them safe & to be well & have no hard feelings towards them. I can't make them do something they don't want to do. That being said, we all have to keep our self busy to prepare for the warmer weather & to stay healthy. I'm spending less time on-line & looking forward to gardening time again. THANKYOU for being an inspiration & being you - some people learn by watching how to do something, some learn by hearing what is said, some learn by reading the instructions - I've been blessed to be able to do all four - the last being don't rely on others to do the work that you have to do yourself ... Thank your wife for sharing you with us. Stay safe & in good health to each & every one of you.
Yes, one day at a time. Good advice, don't panic. So good to hear from you. Made my day, thanks.
Thank you Shawn.
Shawn, You truly are an inspiration.
We are making our garden a lot bigger this year. and I am learning to preserve what I grow by drying or canning and freezing. I also am looking into chickens. And you do inspire me.

Thank you Shawn. You make my days a little better
Thank you sir.
Thank you, Shawn.
Beautiful place in the world to be clean safe healthy Thank you for the inspiring videoOne day at the time yep! God bless the us all
You are giving people a wonderful peek into nature during their days of isolation so thank you. I just hope people do not decamp to remote areas to self isolate thus putting pressure on areas that do not have the facilities & resources to to cope. Good luck with your garden and get crushing your egg shells to keep those slugs off your plants or use half egg shells as seed pots. Maybe, just maybe the current situation will invoke a change in social attitude whereby we start to value what is really important which your way of life promotes. Thanks Shaun & Cali.
Just want to say thank you Shawn for your words of wisdom, please don,t feel the need to apologize for anything, people criticizing are the ones lacking in their own lives, you have given hours of enjoyment to so many how can we repay you!
