Ford F-150 Morimoto XB Tail Light Install and Impressions (2009-2014)

- Some more work on the black Raptor this week, this one being install and quick review of Morimoto’s newly available XB tail lights! It took about 6 months to get these in due to backorder issues, but they are now here, installed, and looking good.
Like many other folks, I don’t love the outward bulge these have (while I understand it is there to accommodate the light optics, it’s not the most aesthetically pleasing), but I will see how I accustom to it over time - I really didn’t like the bulge of the Alpharex tail lights I’ve run for a while now, but became used to that as well.
Thanks for watching!

Been looking everywhere for a view of someone with a Black raptor and the red version of these. thanks man, they look amazing.
Thanks for watching!
Am order the same pair!! I have the smoke recon right now
I'm running the smoked ones on my 12th gen, might have to pick up the reds down the road. Clean raptor man
Thanks for watching!
Great video I'm curious on what rear bumper do I have on ur vehicle
@@tjlighting54lighting Thanks for watching! It's an ADD Offroad Stealth Fighter bumper.
Great video, my son and I just installed the same tail lights on my 2012. Question for you or anyone who might have or not have a problem with the fitting of the light. Dose it protrude on the outside of the bed? I’m trying to add a picture but I can’t
It does protrude on the rear side of the bed (proud of the tailgate and bedsides), but does not produce out the side. Photos don't show up on RUclips but feel free to send an email to redonkilaus@gmail.com, or hit up Morimoto's customer support which I understand is pretty decent. Thanks for watching!
Back bumper looks nice, wat brand is that one😅
That one is an ADD Stealth Fighter - I believe discontinued. Thanks for watching!
Are your flush after install? Because mines seem to stick out, I was hoping you had video of the full install so I can see if I was doing anything wrong or your looked the same. I did rush installing these because of daylight savings 😒 damn near dark when I finished
Not perfectly, that is one qualm I have on both sets I have. Thanks for watching!
What is the aftermarket bumper you have? And did you replace the bulbs in your 3rd brake light housing? If so, do you have a link for the bulbs?
This is an ADD Stealth Fighter bumper. Hard to find since it was discontinued but there are ones around. I did replace the bulbs and have a video on that, actually. Replaced the whole light as well. All links in that video: ruclips.net/video/G0tb_qXotFc/видео.html
Does the ring around the taillights stay on while driving during the day when the lights are on Auto? Or only light up at night?
I believe only when the running/marker lights are on. Thanks for watching!
Did u used the factory bulbs or do they the come with their own my low beams just when out and Idk if I can used the original bulbs
These are full LED housings, no bulbs to install. Thanks for watching!
How are they working out for you? How do you like them compared to the alpharex?
I still quite like them compared to the AlphaRex lights. I still run the smoked red AlphaRex ones on my daily driver silver Raptor, but have had the thought to switch that over to Morimoto too...maybe when they go on sale next. Thanks for watching!
What kind of lights were on the passenger side?
The old tail lights were AlphaRex ones, if that's what you are referring to. Thanks for watching!
@@redonKiLaus yes sir. Thank you
Do you happen to have a slight gap between the fender area of truck and tail light ? I have pushed lights all the way in but notice a slight gap. Would like to know if you’rs are like this as well. Btw took your recommendation and ordered red and looks good on truck
I do not on mine - I've heard of others having the same issue as you describe, and some of the vendors out there recommend ensuring the studs on the lights are seated in the retainers on the truck. Thanks for watching!
I had the gap you are talking about at the top of the tail light body seam, they do not sit flush at all, its a big gap. My alpha rexes burned out for a 3rd time in 2 year warranty period, guess ill be swapping to the morimotos tomorrow and see if I can do anything about that top body gap they have. Its worrisome here in the PNW with the amount of rainfall we get up here, I may try and see if I can insert some foam pieces to conceal the gap better, it looks atrocious and much worse fitment than the Alphas were but those lights fail so quickly.
The bulge isn't as obvious on the Raptors due to the wide hips. I'd have to see in person what they look like on a non Raptor. Smoked to me looks too rice.
Clean Raptor btw!
I don't think they would look anywhere near as good on a standard F-150, to be honest - even the old Alpharex tails bulge some and on a normal F-150, they look off.
Thanks for the complement and thanks for watching!
Did you not like the smoked color? I am trying to decide between morimoto red vs smoke
honestly for a black truck i think i would prefer the red just cause it adds some nice accent, but the smoked would defintly make a really cool stealth look.
I don't mind the smoked color, but it's an "aftermarket" look whereas the red looks more OEM. I'm an OEM+ person, 100%. Thanks for watching!
So did you change them out or keep them?
Kept them and bought another set for my other Raptor. Great lights, IMO. Thanks for watching!
I don’t like the black plastic trim the lights have I feel like it would clash against the white pearl metallic on my truck
It can go well with some color schemes, but I can see that being the case for yours. Thanks for watching!
@@redonKiLaus yeah and with the chrome bumpers and grill they would look really out of place
What kind of rear bumper is that ?
ADD Stealth Fighter. Thanks for watching!
$500...GMAFB!!!
These aren't some shitty Chinese tail lights
