I’m so glad I found this. My surgeon is trying to rush me off mine. Walking outside without is like a danger zone. The ground is spinning and I’ve almost fallen a few times. So I don’t risk it when outside alone which is most of the time when I’m not at home.
That's good to hear, I am at 7 weeks after ankle break and my podiatrist told me I should be off crutches by now but I am nowhere near ready. This video makes a lot of sense to me
@@carolmoseley4847 I just transitioned from a boot cast after 7 weeks into an air cast, and my Dr told me the same thing while fitting me for my air case. And he put Wheen from crutches on my PT order. What a duche!
Great video! I start partial weight bear in 2 days and am trying to understand how this progression works without injury and body mechanic issues. The take away for me is to focus on using my crutches to avoid compensating. Be sure to engage my quads and glutes. If I need my crutches to do all this, that’s a mile marker for my progression. Work it from there.
Really helpful thank you, I’m 14 days post total hip replacement and trying to walk without a crutch but have a horrible ’roll’ in my gait when I walk, with my crutch I’m dead straight, I will use it more again to teach my muscles what the correct posture is 👍. Great video 😊
Thank you for this. I am 10 week post ankle surgery and, in the absence of physio support, I have been trying to weight bear alone. I am now walking with a significant limp and pain. When I use my crutch everything is much more comfortable - I was worried that this was a backward step but I suspect I have tried to push things too quickly
my PT is trying to get me off the crutch (now 1) and I cannot get the walking gait correct, but she is pushing me like there is something wrong with me. it is horrible and hard...after broken foot surgery, pins and fractures
@@乐乐-x6n thank you! Yes, I am walking, but the gait, harmed my meniscus on the opposite leg. Problem in the USA, is the medical professionals do not focus on the 'whole' body, but just the injured part. They could care less. I sang to my doctor, the hip bone is connected to leg bone...and they all laughed. But yes, I hike, run, walk, bike ride!
I have to use the crutches because minimal weight on my injured leg causes pain, so I know I am not ready to go solo. It takes time to re-learn to walk and to alleviate the stiffness in the injured leg as well as rebuild its stength.
How long were you on crutches after TKR? I lasted just over 2 weeks on both and then began walking with one for a week. After 3 weeks I was walking unassisted quite normally.
Hey Kelly, i'm getting my total knee done in two weeks! The physio talked about using a walker and then a cane... you think i can get as much out of these as crutches... also, I own a tens machine woiuld it be usefull!? I am trying to get the Hwave, but not certain its covered by my inssurances
I’m 11 weeks post op from ORIF ankle surgery. I feel like I’m so far behind in recovery since I still use a crutch. If I walk without the crutch I have the worst limp. My surgeon makes me feel like I should be able to walk normal. Even in PT I feel like I’m far behind .

Love this! Thank you for clarifying- I am recovering from a broken ankle and still on crutches after 9 weeks

Great video, great advice Kelly. There are pretty dark times in TKR rehab and anything that aids getting into bad walking habits it’s a boon.

Thanks for articulating the goal of smooth movement.
Four months post avulsion fracture, Trendelenberg gait problems. Used my crutch for five weeks, needed it every time I went outside.

Omg. I'm so sorry to hear that. Some of them can be really mean and harsh.
So is it okay? U able to walk now right

Pro cruch is clutch!!!
What if you still have pain in the foot?
Looks like the crutch is a little low...
