Me too. Jessie Brewer was wonderful with patients in trauma situations. She was like a mother figure and she explained everything that she was doing. Bobbi Spencer was lucky to have Jessie as her mentor in nursing school.
Jesse got excellent training to prepare for this scene and should have gotten an Emmy for it. I know she wasn't a forensic nurse but she would have made an excellent one. #RN ##JessieBrewer #Compassion
Genie Francis is so phenomenal. It was her face and angelic being that made the audience feel for Laura.. she exuded that authenticity - Gloria Monty knew she had something special..
Wow you are so right Deborah so very right on the nose. I always loved Jessie she was always so kind and sweetly understanding Jessie was and always will be the best nurse and friend. God I miss har so much. Love you Jessie loveRosie
Emily McLaughlin, playing Nurse Jesse Brewer was magnificent in this scene. Look at it , it was over 4 minutes long and she and the very young Genie Francis were superb !! Nurse Jesse Brewer was played by actress Emily McLaughlin, from the show's premiere on April 1, 1963, until McLaughlin's death in 1991
. Interestingly enough ... Nurse Jessie Brewer ... a character that was the 'Laura' -- i.e. she was the -- _"tragedy princess"_ -- of GH way back in the 1960s)_ ... (1) was ... ALSO ... r^ped (2) the r^pist ... was ... ALSO ... someone that she knew, worked with and cared for ... AND ... (3) she ... ALSO ... ended up married to the r^pist ... (twice ... actually ... since the r^pist was ... Dr. Phil ... someone that she met on the job ... married and later decided to leave ... then ... he ... ALSO ... got drunk and r^ped her ... and . .. at some point later ...she felt compelled to remarry him. . There are old videos of those episodes online. .
@@APGifts wow I’ve NEVER even heard this. What history. I’m surprised they got away with that storyline then on the network. I always figured part of it was at that time there was a “wave” of romance literature starting with Kathleen Woodiwiss that was all about women being rated usually by a dark handsome rich man and then they later fell in love. Disgusting but true. Propelling the notion that all a “bad” man needed to be redeemed was a good woman…..
. If you *search online the words* ... *" WIKIPEDIA and PHIL_BREWER "* ... it should bring you to links with the entire back story of the life of Nurse-Jessie (who was actually one of the 'original' key-characters of the show ...until ... the late 1970s ... and ... brought in tons of viewers ... throughout the 1960s till the mid-1970s). . Jessie-Brewer was like a the most caring and kind-hearted ... yet ... long-suffering ... and ... incredibly-strong .. characters that had ever been written for or seen on a soap opera ... when the show originally began ... and ... she then ... used her ... tragic ... life-experiences ... to help ... Laura Vining-Webber ... to survive ... a parallel experience ... as ... the show ... was passing-the-baton from one amazing actress (Emily McLaughlin) ... onto that of another amazing actress (Genie Francis) ... who both portray equally amazing characters (Jessie-Brewer ... and ... Laura Vining-Webber ). .
Genie Francis had few lines but she acted this out amazingly…. and she’s only 17 years old! Emily McLaughlin (Jessie) was so caring. She was the perfect actor for Genie in this scene. I cannot imagine being 17 and acting out this very serious scene with cameras all around me.
they should cancel all the daytime soaps and repeat these episode from the late 70's , early 1980's , I now they would have to locate every person in every scene 2 see if they are still alive and if there estate can be paid , I know soapnet did it with ryan's hope , most people , even the big talent on the show got 2 dollars per episode, soap net only purchased ryan's hope episodes that aired between it's premeire on ABC Daytime7/7/1975 to approxiametly the 12/4/1981 episode , I really enjoyed the 1984 and 1985 episodes with jill's long lost sister enterning the episodes around 8/19/1983 , the stories were then being written by head writer pat falken smith .....
I Have A Love in he afternoon promo for ryan's hope and all my children that aired during loving on the Friday 8/19/1983 episode in the promo , for "RH" they introduce jill's long lost sister coming into town (Maggie , played by cali simms ? ) and all AMC promo they show a bad fire at the nightclub where most of the cast was and Erica locked into a closet screaming for help , I could not wait 2 watch "AmC" that day as back then , as the magazines back then mostly ran articles about the stars and behind the scenes coverage , but they never told u what was going 2 happen in advance , like they do today , you had 2 watch 2 find out , donna and chuck's baby died in that fire .....when the magazines started telling u in advance what was going 2 happen , plus in the years 2 come , some of the legendery writers died , soaps changed , today there more written like cartoon charcters , I Can even see a change in the young and the restless since the legendary bill bell passed away , I don't know about ABC or NBC , but CBS's 2 soaps left , make CBS a fortune overseas in other countries , like "the bold and the beautiful" is seen in Italy in prime time and is a ratings powerhouse in Italy 's tv primetime finishing #1 every night that it is aired .....please forgive spelling mistakes and thanks for reading all this ..... :)
My Mother's Favorite GH nurse Jessie Brewer I remember watching this with my mom she loved Jessie !! I've been watching GH for 50 years my mother started watching when it first aired on!! This is so heart warming to watch back then and now!! I was so young and couldn't understand how Laura married Luke after that still till know I'm like 😳 the writers really pulled this one off because Laura married Luke and had children from him !!
I love Jessie in this. She is so compassionate and understanding. I don't understand the negative comments. Laura stated herself, after she and Luke returned from the summer runaway, after she betrayed him, that it wasn't rape; and you can see for yourself her demeanor changed after Luke stated his love for her. She definitely had feelings for him; especially after seeing him in tears.
Forgot to include: And instead of letting her go home, he grabs her purse and throws it to the floor, and starts pressuring her to dance with him, as she is shaking her head and saying No... Also, it is so obvious why she doesn't immediately talk openly about what happened... People have been chiding her about being immature and irresponsible, Scottie had been horrible to her the night before in many critical comments about her character, she had been denying to herself about the growing attraction to Luke, which Amy could see and tried to point out to her... she is awash in low self-esteem, thinking she has spent all this time with him, laughing, talking and sharing/confiding, now wondering what "role" she may have had in giving him the "wrong idea..." (in her head) She is ashamed and confused and guilty and overwhelmed and just wants it all to go away, plus she is horrified as to what people will think of her, especially Scottie. If she was in love with Luke, leading up to the assault, she is probably also in emotional shock, because his violent, invasive behavior contradicts the good feelings she had been having towards him up until now...
The problem w/ Luke saying he was in love w/ Laura right before he starts towards the rape. Rape isn't about love its about control obsession violence & a cowardly hideous act. If Luke really loved Laura he wouldn't have raped her. I know he thought he was gonna die but it's OK to rape a sweet teen girl who has been ur friend & leave her shattered while u go off thinking ur gonna die. Luke honestly wanted to have sex w/ her got sick of the dance they did I guess & I'm sure knew she was fascinated by him being older wiser i.e. asking advice a job talking her marriage money issues etc. Again Luke thinking he was gonna die forget it not being an excuse u don't destroy what u love
@@annikabjornson998 Yes, I wasn't trying to whitewash anything, it's just the word that came to mind. I think sometimes people can become desensitized to hearing the word rape, I could be wrong...
@Frances Larsen oh I didn't think u whitewashed anything. I thought u made so many brilliant points. About scottie yelling at her , the growing attraction Amy noticed she had toward Luke that she may have felt some responsibility or Shame about it. Totally perfect that u said all the good feelings she had toward Luke were shattered. Also this was a 17 year old kid who was way way too young to be married & playing housewife w/ scottie who also was a young man. He was already a law student so I assume scottie was early 20s. Anyway that's what's so messed up about the rape & why it is so controversial & did capture people's attention to the point it's iconic in pop culture I mean 30 million viewers esp during the daytime when much of the audience is working is incredible for the wedding. That's why the rape was so unnessecary. I know reading the backstory & soapnets 25 year anniversary had a special explaining Luke was supposed to die. The actor who played Roy was leaving so they stuck w/ keeping Tony geary. I think a good example is women do have crushes on men or girls on boys & they may flirt they want the person to even want to be their boyfriend & it happens where that man will take a girl out & she likes the guy a lot & after the guy rapes her. If ur familiar w/ another rape on a soap oltl which not to say one rape is more horrifying then the next but the college " wild child " Marty got gang raped by ring leader Todd manning & his 2 followers. Todd & Marty which I didn't know til I started watching oltl again when their was a lot of buzz around the story that Todd & Marty had consensual sex when they were merely classmates in a calculus class. Marty even initiated the one night stand. When Todd blew her off after they had sex Marty was humiliated b/c she asked him to stay & hold her being she was a wealthy orphan heiress. She wanted to be held & to have him hang out after & he made excuses why he had to leave & then told her to pull herself together & comb her hair " or something " then was out the door. What u found so fascinating was after Todd kept making attempts for sex even to start dating hee Marty pretty much loathed him for running out the door right away . ( honestly it was just a one night stand w/ an acquaintance so he wasn't obligated to stay & hold her when he figured it was just sex ) I thought what was so interesting was when the d.a. had arrested them & they were prepping for trial he got a bit discouraged when she admitted she slept w/ Todd the ring leader. Marty responded " cause I slept w/ the guy once that means he can rape me whenever he feels like it ?:
Thanks for replying:) The things that people have to realize, that get so angry over this, (that didn't see it play out in real time, or haven't taken the time to watch the full 9 months) is first of all, this is fiction and the writers had time to sit there and toy with this idea/that change/etc... and this whole thing took place over a snail's pace of about 9 months, covering a myriad of back and forth discussions, mixed feelings including revulsion, avoidance, anger and resentment, and then confrontation, analyzing what happened, sarcasm, and every emotion in between, in addition to the development of the love connection! She didn't just roll over in the hospital bed, bat her eyelashes and say "Oh, I love this man anyway.." Seriously!!! I was 18 at the time, and had gone through an assault myself by a relative, about 3 months earlier, so I think this impacted me in a different way.
@@ellencarroll2921 Thank you, it was actually bio (better term than the usual title for which this month has a holiday) and these things happened in 74, 79, and 81. The 79 stuff was just in July, on a visit (he lived with my grandmother, his mother so I felt okay about a visit (or so I thought) and most of this is forever in a special "amnesia" compartment anyway, but having said all that - (which is probably tmi!)
@@ellencarroll2921 I accidentally hit post before I finished, so basically having said all that, which hopefully wasn't too much, or too uncomfortable, I actually found so much comfort, intrigue, diversion, interest, etc in these amazing actors and their mesmerizing scenes!
@@franceslarsen4037 While I can't say that I completely understand your trauma (and that's what it is) I can tell you that my best friend growing up had experienced sexual abuse from her grandfather. I tried to be as supportive as I could be. What does a middle school student know? I just knew that she didn't want me to talk about it and she had told her mom and went to counseling. Years later she told me more. It was a complicated story. She told me she was trying to blame it on someone else but all along, it had been her grandfather. Evidently the family wanted to keep up appearances and they didn't confront or tell on the grandfather, not even after he died.
@@ellencarroll2921 Hi, yes it is complex trauma, no doubt:(. It shows how good a friend you were to try to support her the best you knew how, these"family"situations are definitely complicated. My grandmother (his mother) was more concerned it seems, with appearance also, and she was in alot of denial. These actors may just be thinking of their character development, and career path, and sometimes how they connect with viewers/fans but what they may not think about, on a deeper level, is the positive impact they can have in someone's life, who's dealing with so many things. It can be therapeutic, distracting, etc etc. I'll never forget the excitement of when Luke/Laura went on the run!
@JenniferJanu I think Laura always knew the truth of what happened that night, but she understood Luke so well that she could forgive and eventually love him. Their relationship was SO MUCH MORE than that one night.
Because shit happens between people. Life is never black and white. But today's society only thinks in black and white on social media. It's so annoying.
Yes thank you LauraKB45. Yes it was so much more...and then some. See not one soul would I stand what Laura felt. I for one can only make a small and poor guess? The truth would not make sense too a lot of people of PC. I’am sure they would run Luke out of town or sorry string him up. Laura they would have to seek a lot of mental help or just put her away for a while. Luke & Laura reach and very deep loving and understandingrelationship that would leave negative and very dark reactions.Yes life is never just black or just white. It sometimes comes in colors and sometimes gray is the day?I don’t think anybody could ever truly understand less you walked in there shoes. JMHO. Rosie out
It gradually became so much more. Obviously they were soulmates who connected very deeply with each other. But, this was rape. Luke did wrong and paid for it years later when Lucky opened their eyes. Laura, guilty because she was attracted to Luke, blamed herself instead of Luke. That was a mistake. Later Laura gets raped again by Stavros. Crazy!
@Elly Reginald Yes,Yes That Laura did. But that was and all together horse of a very different color.... It was rape over and over again all because of a man who had a psychotic obsession for somebody’s wife.Stovros Cassadine came from a very psychotic family he had no filter other then what he wanted when he wanted no matter who got hurt! Laura and her children where the ones who got hurt the most and her Mother too. This is how I see it. JMVHO. Rosie!
I vaguely remember watching this episode when it first aired. The year was 1979. Genie was 17 years old when she did this storyline. What I do remember was the way Jessie helped Laura. That was something that stuck with me through the years. I was a young teenager at the time. I think this is the reason that I didn’t realize what an incredible job Genie did for this particular episode. Watching it now, close to being 59 years old, it’s like seeing it for the first time. I am so impressed by her acting, especially for this storyline, for being only 17 years old. Then I remembered something about the first (and only) time Miss Francis won an Emmy - 2007. So I had to research the history of the Emmy’s and Genie Francis. I am so disappointed about her being, pretty much, ignored for TOO MANY YEARS. She didn’t win an Emmy until 2007 - the only time she’s won. She’s only been nominated 5 times, in all the years she played Laura!!! However the thing that makes me wonder - if the “Powers That Be” actually watched the show at all - is that Genie wasn’t even nominated for this storyline 😠 (Her first nomination wasn’t until 1997). It took 10 more years until she actually won the award. This is disgusting. She was still a young/new/actress when she played this storyline - and as I said, only 17 years old. I’ve watched Genie play Laura since 1978 (on & off). I cannot believe that the Emmy people ignored her for so many years. It must have been heartbreaking for her to not even be nominated for so long, and watch Tony Geary win and win and win - EVERY TIME HE DESERVED IT. Not only should she have been nominated for her acting skills in this story, she should have won!!
I've always loved Jesse, she was a great actress,I hated when they years later gradually reduced her role on the show! She deserved a best supporting actress Emmy for this performance!
I.never knee the story I remember seeing them on the island, all of the uploads are.so interesting. I like that they wesr normal clothing and aren't dressed up all the time.
LauraKB45 I understand what you're saying about it being more complicated between the two characters over time, I get that she had feelings of attraction and even more and that he was about to die and drunk, etc. but the factors for me are: he does not pick up at all on any of her nuances, like the moment she realizes she is in over her head at trying to comfort and support him that night, and says she needs to go home, and how she looks at him when he is demanding that she dance with him, and how she yells out "NO" multiple times. How he can he possibly have interpreted (as they stated so many times over the years) that he thought "she wanted him as much as he wanted her," is beyond me - as she basically looks terrified and suspicious, and not in the least reciprocal or "in the mood..." he was pretty delusional at the time...
Maybe that’s how it is with a lot of rapes. It is too horrible for the rapist to admit that he did such a heinous crime so he convinces himself she actually “wanted” it.
@@rosamariann I think you might be on to something there. And then the police question the rapist and they say it will be her word against his and they say they have "insufficient evidence" because they don't take the time to build a good case. That means many rapists get away with it.
@@rosamariann Right. And for the police or anyone to expect witnesses to the act, that is a bunch of nonsense. In fact if they consider the situation, the witness is the rape victim. Put her on the witness stand because she was there when it happened and unfortunately, her body is the crime scene. Our laws protect the criminal more than the victim. All through history it has been this way. Judges even today identify with the accused rapists more than the women who reported rape. They say they don't want to ruin the man's future or he is a promising young man, etc etc. We live in a patriarchal society.
She is so traumatized there is no doubt that this was a real rape. How in the world they could create an epic love story out of this is beyond me. Nothing romantic or loving about this.
"We're all very glad that you're alive. It's a very good thing to be alive. You just hang onto that." She says that because so often raped women are murdered. At least then. Today with DNA testing it's a whole other thing. Still happens, though. The things women tolerate at the hands of men, SMH, since like, forever. Disgusting. This was at the hands of a trusted friend...that they were about to kill off. Watch his reactions to this in the coming weeks. It's what makes American women demand he stay on as a partner for Laura. It's some of the best acting in history.
Wow. Why are these particular scenes so rare? It almost seems as though someone at ABC wanted to destroy any evidence that a rape actually occurred. BUT IT DID!
what I don't understand is, why didn't Scotty pick her up from the disco? I thought he had concerns about her staying there so late? Jessie, Audrey, Lesley, Laura and Monica were all raped. I think it was an overused plot line. did the writers really get their kicks victimizing women? was there point to all this?
from what I vaguely remember (I have the scene on VHS , but have not watched it 4 years , rick and monica's lawsuit was coming 2 a end and he had to work very late with lawyer Zelda Bernstein ? he told AMY 2 tell laura he could not pick her up after her work was done that night at the disco and 2 take a cab/taxi home . AMY forgot 2 tell her and in the meantime laura and scotty had a fight (the honeymoon was over ) over laura usuing there new credit card 2 pay 4 brand new set of law books , so she thought scotty was made at her , you have 2 imagine also , this was 1979 , credit cards (there were no debit cards yet) were not used for day 2 day purchases like they are now, it was still called mastercharge (later mastercard ) and visa were used by consumers for major purchases only, most convience stores and fast food or pharmacieseven the big 1's did not even accept them , all purchases were cash and carry , I remember in late 1984 my local CVS (had a banner stating they now accepted visa and mastercard , but there was a minium you had 2 purchase , today even with the advent of debit cards they will swipe any amount purchased , even a couple dollars , my father was 30 when he married my 18 year old mother , we had a housekeeper who told me things about the marriage before I was born , they were trying 2 have kids 4 10 years b4 I was born , I was the first, and just getting back 2 the credit cards , if u did try to use the for day 2 day purchases (there were ways around it ) it was frowned by the major credit card reporting agencies and it affected your FICO score , it is no longer frowned upon , since the advent of DEBIT CARDS , I M A Conspiracy theorist , I think the debit cards were meant to make us a cashless socirty , so the government can control us more , but I M just as guilty as the rest of us , we let ourselves be controlled by the government , I use the debit card 4 everything , I cannot remember the last time I actually used a ATM 2 withdraw cash , I rarely have cash on me and if I do it is very little , the only thing is , if someone was out to get me , they could freeze my debit card , than I m up the world famous creek without a paddle , where that cannot be done with cash , sorry I got off topic and wordy :) thanks 4 reading all this , thank U 4 all your time :) please forgive any spelling errors , I did not proof read this :) they should cancel all the daytime soaps and repeat these episode from the late 70's , early 1980's , I now they would have to locate every person in every scene 2 see if they are still alive and if there estate can be paid , I know soapnet did it with ryan's hope , most people , even the big talent on the show got 2 dollars per episode, soap net only purchased ryan's hope episodes that aired between it's premeire on ABC Daytime7/7/1975 to approxiametly the 12/4/1981 episode , I really enjoyed the 1984 and 1985 episodes with jill's long lost sister enterning the episodes around 8/19/1983 , the stories were then being written by head writer pat falken smith .....
Soaps always touched in subjects that late night shows considered off limits. Out and out rape was a taboo subject for a long time. But put it in a soap opera and you could slide by. The one thing different here was Laura. She was so young and just married to her sweetheart. The character was classic. And Genie F did a phenomenal job coming in a few years earlier at playing a sweet, caring, young-for-her-age character. It was probably the first thing the writers wanted to do when they saw her first scene with Tony G! They walked a fine edge here. It could have ruined the entire show. As it was, it made headlines because so many younger people watched it. The main thing it did was make us all THINK. It caused a lot of us to air out our feelings about things your families would never discuss. I remember I liked Scotty and wanted them to stay together, but I slowly realized his character had changed to something darker. Luke changed for the better earn he was with Laura and she was happier with him. The whole thing became a study in how others and circumstances can affect you. That's why people still seek out these videos and discuss it now. It was life, but life with a bit more excitement that causes you to pay more attention and figure out what you really think about everything as a whole.
I'm sorry but Luke saying he was on love w/ Laura as he starts towards the rape dancing kissing her taking her to the floor all the while she's saying no let me go & your frightening me & as he drags her down to the floor is screaning " no luke!!!" So his whole I'm gonna die thing , forget it's no excuse if u love someone & genuinely think ur gonna die u don't leave someone u love shattered. Luke is very bright & in later scenes says pedophiles & rapists where he came from died & even the worst slime cheered. We knlw that in prison even the worst criminals hate sex offenders. So Luke said to himself I'm in love w/ this teen girl who's married I'm gonna die so I'm gonna force myself on her as she's screaning??? I think what's even creepier is what we don't see. As the rape is going on the disco lights are flashing the music going its like a freaky demonic haunted house is representing the horror of what's left to our imagination which is always more effective. Seeing Laura after her blouse ripped mascara running & tear stained face laying on the floor shows us how brutal what happened on that disco floor was. I know the writers did fancy footwork to walk back the rape as seduction but it's sick. Seeing Laura after u know she was sobbing & violently having her blouse shredded as we see at least the arms of her blouse all ripped off. So that's what was happening as Laura " really wanted it & was too afraid to let Luke know " even if Laura had a secret crush on him no woman wants to be dragged to the floor against their will. Esp given how angry Luke was while he started screaning at her & throwing her purse telling she had scottie ! Even when he asked her to dance she looks very uncomfortable & Luke isn't being tender he's looking at her possessed. It's not a romantic dance at all. Laura really liked this older man told him he was her friend & as a teen btw she didn't know what to do . She went from trying to help him to him blasting into how he needs hee he pictures touching her making " love " to her every night & " look at what uve done to me !" Basically calling her some tease. Again I'll go w/ Laura probably had a crush on Luke. She was fascinated by this worldly guy who was her boss giving her advice & her going to him w/ her problems. Because Luke may have felt son connection & if Laura had some attraction no still means no & Luke dying within a day or whatever he wanted to leave this sweet girl being attacked cause he wasn't " going to die w/ o having her" like I'm sick of this dance were doing Laura so let's hurry it up. Rape is a hard thing to prove when it's " date rape " cause theirs been marital rape. Or even people who have had sex b4 & the guy later rapes the woman. If a person says no that's it. It's not up to the other person to speculate that the other has a crush so they are ready to move from nothing to sex. That's why I thought oltl in the 90s gang rape story was so brilliant as it really only deals w/ the true to life rape pre during after the clinical aspect the trauma the sude of the artackers after. I also loved that they made Marty " the least empathetic witness" her getting loaded kissing one of her rapists in front of everyone dancing on the pool table throwing her sweater off & she'd even slept months before w/ the ring leader Todd. I loved that the d.a. reacted badly to that. I loved Marty Saying " cause I slept w/ the guy once that means he can rape me whenever he feels like it !" & I loved hank the d.a. agreeing w/ her but explaining jury biases. Cause people are that stupid to think cause a couple college kids had sex once that means he couldn't possibly rape her when she's moved on. I also loved showing both angles of the tactics lawyers play. The defense attorney smearing the victim as a liar & bringing up her sexual history w/ one of the accused rapists ( ring leader Todd) even though by 93 the rape shield law was past that a victims sexual history is not allowed like saying " this girl is promiscuous" but the judge had to allow it cause it spoke only to the victim & one of her attackers. So that's the game a defense lawyer has to play. Same w/ the d.a. saying he wanting Marty who had beautiful big curly hair he Said he wanted it in a bun they compromised & had her straighter her hair & wear demure clothing. I know it's obvious but I still loved it was mentioned. How justice is supposed to be blind but it isn't. Appearance biases matter. Like a Laura would be an excellent witness. Sweet young married blonde w/ Dr parents married to a young lawyer w/ a prominent legal attorney. Marty I loved they wanted her the opposite to show no matter how drunk skimpy clothing wise or even if the girl slept w/ an attacker on a previous day it didn't matter. The irony is even by 95 the audience cause they loved the chemistry of the actors thought they should be paired. !!! Thank God the actors threatened to quit & thank God the actor refused to let the show ever redeem his character. Him being a rapist was brought up consistently almost like as much as his freaking name ! It's scary that even in a story played just about rape & to be educational the same head writer still went nuts cause of the acclaim him emmy & the actors Emmy & wanted to pair a ring leader of a gang rape & his victim. I mean for a full year after the convictions they showed Marty tortured & Todd in prison getting therapy one of the rapists had no remorse & rotted in prison & the 3rd who was too quickly forgiven thankfully they had him go insane & sadly but again very real had him serial rape showing even the recidivism rate of a rapist. So after almost 2 Years of that story being played as serious as a heart attack & Marty's rape was shown way more than l&l w/ the horrible before & after of each man's rape & intersplicing Marty's tears as some of its going on & the taunts esp from Todd. Yet 2 years later the HW wanted to pair them. Fans also wanted this. Thank goodness tha5 story aged well as it never happened ! The e.p. ot oltl also had left so the head writer went wild. Sadly u see the temptation as both Todd & Marty had great acting chemistry & because they slept together b4 & had months of building interesting dynamics where Todd actually was pushy about sex but never gave a rape vibe til the story started turning that direction & had Todd start to lose it right b4 the gang rape. The actor was horrified enough that he was having heart to hearts about his love life w/ his victim. Also noticed when the HW was laying the foundation
I know I'm in the minority, but this was a horrible storyline. He raped her, then eventually got her to say she liked it when she obviously did not. Then they ran off together and wound up married by the time it was all over. I loved the Luke and Laura story when I was younger, but as I got older I realized it was pretty bad. Still, their wedding got more views than Charles and Diana.

Nurse Jesse Brewer was played by actress Emily McLaughlin, from the show's premiere on April 1, 1963, until McLaughlin's death in 1991
Jesse was wonderful. Everyone played their parts superbly and Genie is just beyond compare…

Genie Francis had few lines but she acted this out amazingly…. and she’s only 17 years old! Emily McLaughlin (Jessie) was so caring. She was the perfect actor for Genie in this scene. I cannot imagine being 17 and acting out this very serious scene with cameras all around me.
I watched all this originally. We used to rush home from school to watch GH!
Scenes like this make me miss actors like Emily McLaughlin and characters like Jessie Brewer.
I Loved Jessie, she was a terrific cast member on GH. 💗 Jessie was very loving to Laura, what a great scene in acting for the both of them.
@sattnin68 This is surely an emotional and stellar scene. Nothing on GH like THIS today. Thanks for watching.
they should cancel all the daytime soaps and repeat these episode from the late 70's , early 1980's , I now they would have to locate every person in every scene 2 see if they are still alive and if there estate can be paid , I know soapnet did it with ryan's hope , most people , even the big talent on the show got 2 dollars per episode, soap net only purchased ryan's hope episodes that aired between it's premeire on ABC Daytime7/7/1975 to approxiametly the 12/4/1981 episode , I really enjoyed the 1984 and 1985 episodes with jill's long lost sister enterning the episodes around 8/19/1983 , the stories were then being written by head writer pat falken smith .....
Jessie Brewer did great helping Laura. She had a lot of experience with trauma cases.
Invasive? Indeed, rape is about the most invasive thing a person can do.
@@nattyps3160 I understand what you're saying, and I agree.

Wow Jesse!! Preach it!! No one can touch the real girl you are inside!! #truth
So sorry to read that you were assaulted by a relative.
We have some very sick people in this world.
JMVHO. Rosie!
That you so much for uploading! I was born years after this storyline so I never got to see it.
How did Genie not g er an Emmy for this?!?!
However the thing that makes me wonder - if the “Powers That Be” actually watched the show at all - is that Genie wasn’t even nominated for this storyline 😠
(Her first nomination wasn’t until 1997).
I miss Jessie she was such a Nice person&great nurse👍 Poor Laura I felt so bad for
her:( first David Hamilton now This
Ugh! The aweful reception we had from those old tv's back in the old days. Great scene, great show.....but the tv's we had back then were horrible.
Glad Laura got some confront
I've always loved Jesse, she was a great actress,I hated when they years later gradually reduced her role on the show! She deserved a best supporting actress Emmy for this performance!
That actress is so believable as a nurse!
I loved Jessie!
I.never knee the story I remember seeing them on the island, all of the uploads are.so interesting. I like that they wesr normal clothing and aren't dressed up all the time.
Poor Laura
Wow watching these powerful scenes it's amazing GH was able to backpeddle and call the rape a 'seduction'
They called it a seduction??? That is horrible.
@@cayea4076 Yeah, unfortunately. Genie's been speaking out against that term as GH is about to celebrate its 60th year on the air
Frances Larsen Yes, I believe he was in such a state of desperation that he hoped against hope he saw reciprocation.
@@ellencarroll2921 and that’s how it is many a times. There are usually no witnesses.
Miss Jessie Brewer. Too bad that Gloria Monty never addressed having her character die. She was an original cast member
Jessie was Great💯
She is so traumatized there is no doubt that this was a real rape. How in the world they could create an epic love story out of this is beyond me. Nothing romantic or loving about this.
"We're all very glad that you're alive. It's a very good thing to be alive. You just hang onto that."
She says that because so often raped women are murdered.
It's some of the best acting in history.
well said.
Wow. Why are these particular scenes so rare? It almost seems as though someone at ABC wanted to destroy any evidence that a rape actually occurred. BUT IT DID!
😢
This scene proves that no one understands the feelings of a woman/girl who’s been raped quite like another woman. Jesse was essential here!
what I don't understand is, why didn't Scotty pick her up from the disco? I thought he had concerns about her staying there so late? Jessie, Audrey, Lesley, Laura and Monica were all raped. I think it was an overused plot line. did the writers really get their kicks victimizing women? was there point to all this?
David Brunson He was angry with her. Have you watched television, movies or computer games to notice how they treat women NOW?
from what I vaguely remember (I have the scene on VHS , but have not watched it 4 years , rick and monica's lawsuit was coming 2 a end and he had to work very late with lawyer Zelda Bernstein ? he told AMY 2 tell laura he could not pick her up after her work was done that night at the disco and 2 take a cab/taxi home . AMY forgot 2 tell her and in the meantime laura and scotty had a fight (the honeymoon was over ) over laura usuing there new credit card 2 pay 4 brand new set of law books , so she thought scotty was made at her , you have 2 imagine also , this was 1979 , credit cards (there were no debit cards yet) were not used for day 2 day purchases like they are now, it was still called mastercharge (later mastercard ) and visa were used by consumers for major purchases only, most convience stores and fast food or pharmacieseven the big 1's did not even accept them , all purchases were cash and carry , I remember in late 1984 my local CVS (had a banner stating they now accepted visa and mastercard , but there was a minium you had 2 purchase , today even with the advent of debit cards they will swipe any amount purchased , even a couple dollars , my father was 30 when he married my 18 year old mother , we had a housekeeper who told me things about the marriage before I was born , they were trying 2 have kids 4 10 years b4 I was born , I was the first, and just getting back 2 the credit cards , if u did try to use the for day 2 day purchases (there were ways around it ) it was frowned by the major credit card reporting agencies and it affected your FICO score , it is no longer frowned upon , since the advent of DEBIT CARDS , I M A Conspiracy theorist , I think the debit cards were meant to make us a cashless socirty , so the government can control us more , but I M just as guilty as the rest of us , we let ourselves be controlled by the government , I use the debit card 4 everything , I cannot remember the last time I actually used a ATM 2 withdraw cash , I rarely have cash on me and if I do it is very little , the only thing is , if someone was out to get me , they could freeze my debit card , than I m up the world famous creek without a paddle , where that cannot be done with cash , sorry I got off topic and wordy :) thanks 4 reading all this , thank U 4 all your time :)

Lesley was raped ? Did not know that
@@dennisfodor2463 Yes by her mean sadistic husband by the name of Cameron Faulkner.
She was awesome, but I cringe seeing her destroying evidence.
If they had DNA swap at that time... they would get Luke and arrest him. Oooohhhhh!
chil887 Why would he be tested if no one suspected him?
We have no one like Jesse on todays show! I miss her. Liz comes close. But don't say Epiphany, she's normally snarky and mean.
