One of the most iconic fiddle tunes ever. Thanks for the extremely helpful video. I’m a newbie and never thought I’d be able to play this. Also anybody know if it was Vasser Clements who played the fiddle on Bills original?
Thanks Gary..I think it is the bowing that makes all the difference with this tune. Like Matt Williams I have tried to figure on my own and of course it goes by at such speed you end up cross-eyed! cross-bowed! and generally just cross!!! :-) lol
Thanks a bunch....I enjoy your tutorials....you break these licks down very well. I think Bobby Hicks recorded this with Bill first....Bobby is such a great player.
Hi Gary - I much appreciate your instructions. You do a fine job. I have been playing Uncle Pen for a while and some time ago when learning it, I heard that the ending that plays through twice is actually another tune by the name of Jenny Lind. That's the way I learned it anyway. Keep up the fine job! Bob Jones
Thanks so much! I was trying to figure that on my own and just wasn't getting it. The Georgia Bow was the key. Next time I'll be on the look out for that.
This is sooo helpful. What is the combination in the third shuffle , last chord? Is the 1 still on the A and the 2 on the D? Thank you for your reply if you are not out playin great!
Dude, if this ain’t THE bluegrass Fiddle groove, I don’t know what is. I just took up Fiddle after playing guitar for 40 years. Luckily I had some Mando experience, and that’s been invaluable. Still, Fiddle is so difficult, but it’s a sickeness. You just can’t stop, if it wasn’t physically taxing, I could probably least. the Uncle Pen groove in only three years!!😂😂😂😂
Thanks for the lesson on Uncle Pen. Can you do more of these lessons?
YES....thumbs-up fer shore, thnx. Gary. One'a my step-dads favorite tunes.
Iik

The headless fiddler! Really, very helpful. I was stumbling over how the timing works on this shuffle.

I think it was Red Taylor. I think he had most of the melody already and Bill put the Uncle Pen story to that
Every little bit helps. Thanks for stopping by!

Are you playing this with the fiddle in standard tuning?
Yes
