He got inspired by the man himself, to have him win the Tournament. Hard work certainly does pay off, when you listen and watch closely to all positive details.
Yep, I definitely gotta hand it to Ken on this one. I may think the dude's a total asshole, but there's no doubt that his level of intelligence is unspeakably amazing.
Ken has confirmed in several online interviews now that this will likely be his last appearance on the show, and it seems rather fitting to end it all here. He has nothing more to prove, and with him getting older it's good for him to retire from the show and move onto other ventures. I also think James likely won't be on the show again until 2024, when they do the next UTOC/BOTD .
Ken would be an interesting new host. However, this show like all broadcast television had a soon expiration date, and maybe it will find a way to survive in a streaming service or online with ads, but they might have to change the dollar values of the answers. Who wants to be a millionaire managed to find a way to survive in daytime by changing the values and rules to make winning extremely hard.
The level of competition between James and Ken, and the show of absolute brilliance and intelligence Ken put on, made going back to regular Jeopardy hard to digest. These guys were throwing down true daily doubles at every chance they had and wagering massive points on final Jeopardy, missing very few answers, and attacking the high values against each other from the start. Brad was unfortunately out of his league, and his record earnings was the result of winning many high dollar championships rather than hitting consecutive game streaks like Ken and James. But it was still by far the most interesting Jeopardy tournament ever, and I’ve been watching the show since the mid-90s. Tough to go back to $500 wagers on $2000 in final Jeopardy!
Actually Brad destroyed Ken head-to-head in two of his five victorious tournaments. His brain just didn't age as well, as he was a much better player ten years ago. Also, he had to retire after five days back when he played, and probably would have won at least 20 straight matches.
Ken really proved be was the best by out-James-ing James. He took that aggressive playstyle and did it consistently better. Being able to beat someone at their own game is a real mark of mastery.
I think James and Ken are pretty equal. The difference was that JH couldn't control the board when he was up against his equal. A couple different daily dbls and a couple different questions could have changed the outcome. All three had great personalities which made it even more fun to watch.
By your mentality, same can be said for you: "oh wait, luna said they're equal. He must be right" My opinion of them is mixed, so I'm not taking any sides, but your sarcastic argument is just out of place
I would love it if they had "matches" like this more frequently - While the student & teacher events can be fun, for me it is great to be able to watch contestants who are so good competing with others of similar skill. I am a big James fan, but I hadn't watched Ken during his long run. I was very impressed with the breadth of his knowledge. I also like the interactions among the three. I think they were having a lot of fun. I hope the ratings were superb - we are all praying for Alex's health, and love that he had the chance to host this terrific event.
You can also say Ken finally got his hands on the championship prize seeing his two opponents previously experienced it and he had not yet done so. Now he’s joined the championship prize club!
I don't see Ken Jennings and Mayim Bialyk with swords trying to take each other's heads for both the Quickening and the Prize, in their case to be the sole Jeopardy! host
Watching Holzhauer and Jennings go at it live on TV was exhilarating. I can imagine the two becoming good friends after the show. Let's be honest though, Alex is the true GOAT.
Congrats to Ken but they are all champions no matter what. Just being able to participate in this tournament is already something that many strive for but yet can never achieve. In the end, they are all winners that have made game show history.
All 3 sincerely are the #JeopardyGOATs but like Highlander, there can truly only be 1, congrats to Ken Jennings, one smart dude indeed! #AlexIsTheGOATHost!!!
In a "Champs Talk" video called "Setting the Record Straight", James said that even though he is not a huge Shakespeare Guy, he knew that Hamlet is the longest play. What happened was that James went down the wrong path, by trying to figure out who was the Major Secondary Character in a Hamlet play, instead of who was the Major Secondary Character in a Shakespeare play, which was Iago, not Horatio.
Alex is a legend and will forever be a part of Jeopardy, but I would love to see Ken become the new host. That would make the transition easier for long-time fans. RIP, Alex!
The biggest irony in all of this: Ken Jennings wins the G.O.A.T. in the exact same fashion he lost the Battle of the Decades to Brad Rutter! Poetic Justice Indeed!
There's rumors and speculation that this was Ken's audition for the position after Alex. I hate to lose Alex, but I'd rather see him go looking good and keeping his pride. I'd really hate to watch his health decline in near real time. He's a decent man and I wish him only the best.
OK, to SAY that the show should just end because of Alex retiring is JUST WRONG. Look at the Price is Right. When Bob retired, did THEY stop? NO. Drew took over and is still solid good.
I still think that in the standard format with random contestants Holzhauer is the GOAT. His hyper aggressive strategy is just so difficult to beat and it really allows him to run up the scores on the average jeopardy contestant.
James is truly great, no one mastered the money strategy of the game like him. If he'd had lasted as long as Ken did the cash winnings would have been many times more. But in the end, Ken's 74 days in a row is simply untouchable. In more than 20 years since he was a contestant, only 2 others have even gotten half way to the legendary streak. And even with James embracing risk big win big, his money won in 32 games couldn't beat Ken's 74 day total.
Ken Jennings can’t play again since he is hosting. There should be a GOAT rematch with Brad, James, Matt Amodio, and possibly Amy Schneider as well with Ken as host.
Brad Rutter goes undefeated and wins all four major Jeopardy tournaments from 2001-19, defeating Ken Jennings in three of them, but nobody calls him the GOAT. Ken Jennings wins one tournament in 2020, and everyone calls him the GOAT. Congratulations to all three players!

@@coled82595 I agree. If anyone could do jeopardy justice as a successor to Alex, it's Ken.
@@nilesayer3046 I've heard it can't happen.
Ken is definitely the GOAT. Brilliant man. And such a nice man. Very modest. Poor Brad never had a chance against these 2 other men.
1:42 Glasses
1:45 No glasses
😂
RIP alex trebek, he was the most iconic game show host of all time.
We love you Alex
And now, here is the host (AND GOAT) of Jeopardy; Ken Jennings!
Fully agreed.
They are not equal Ken is simply better
@@joeplaneta905 oh wait, Joe disagrees. I must me wrong.
@@easterlake the results speak for themselves he won three out of four deal with it
By your mentality, same can be said for you:
"oh wait, luna said they're equal. He must be right"
My opinion of them is mixed, so I'm not taking any sides, but your sarcastic argument is just out of place
Ken is the best and really genuine. I'm glad he wiped that smug grin off James's face.
Ken Jennings is the G.O.A.T. Well deserved.
Ken definitely earned this! Congrats to him!
Yes indeed good job
I was on Team James but congratulations to Ken for winning the tournament!
In the 8 games:
Ken: 45,000 + 18,400 + 40,000 + 17,400 + 51,200 + 16,400 + 65,600 + 23,000 = 277,000
James: 33,200 + 30,000 + 44,314 + 38,100 + 27,200 + 6,492 + 34,181 + 0 = 213,487
Brad: 10,400 + 0 + 14,400 + 0 + 17,600 + 5,867 + 0 + 1,400 = 49,667
I would love it if they had "matches" like this more frequently - While the student & teacher events can be fun, for me it is great to be able to watch contestants who are so good competing with others of similar skill. I am a big James fan, but I hadn't watched Ken during his long run. I was very impressed with the breadth of his knowledge. I also like the interactions among the three. I think they were having a lot of fun. I hope the ratings were superb - we are all praying for Alex's health, and love that he had the chance to host this terrific event.
I wouldn't mind seeing different combinations of tournament of champions winners and/or Hall of Famers going up against each other.
At least, they got to do this when Alex was still alive.
Jeopardy James is still the funniest though.
James is Kobe to Ken's MJ
Taarak Ramamurthy we know, this guy was just making a stataement
You can also say Ken finally got his hands on the championship prize seeing his two opponents previously experienced it and he had not yet done so. Now he’s joined the championship prize club!
Next year they will have the "Who's the second best all time?" Gotta get that $$$.
This made me so happy. Partly because I love Ken Jennings, but mostly because I also got the question right.
Agreed 100% with your comment, and indeed judging by comments from the two of them, it seems they have become great friends.
Congrats Ken Jennings!!! Bravo!!! 👏👏👏👏👏👏
Yahoo Ken
Way to Go Ken Jennings! He deserved it! He's the Greatest of All Time
Ken was EXTREMELY tense after that Final Jeopardy and non-wager. I thought he was going to pass out for a second.
Congratulations to Ken! You deserve it!
Yeah Ken congratulations
Ken knew more trivia than James. Because of this, Ken was able to adapt to his aggressive playing style and take him down.
Ken: For me?!
Me: Yes!!
No Alex, you are the GOAT of Jeopardy. You are an absolute legend and you will be forever missed :)
Should read Othello
When you have the chance
James
Horatio is Hamlet
Iago is an iconic character
I thought it was Horatio as well. I haven't read Othello yet
RIP, Alex!
Ken Jennings graduated from my alma mater Brigham Young University!
I’m so happy for Ken! Them! AND ALEX!!! We love you all!!!🙏❤️🙏
Ken deserved it. After being the underdog for UTOC and BOTD this was the moment he was waiting for.
That warmed my heart. I love Alex Trebek. And I love seeing the passing of the mantle to the next generation.
Congrats Ken you finally proved your the king of the hill .
Side note: they should bring this revamped set back, for Season 37
Congrats Ken Jennings, you were doing good, I been watching this from WBND and I have a word for Brad Rutter: If you didn't win, you do your best.
Congratulations Ken. You did it. Very happy for you. It was really entertaining watching you three.
Well done Ken woo
The biggest irony in all of this: Ken Jennings wins the G.O.A.T. in the exact same fashion he lost the Battle of the Decades to Brad Rutter!
Poetic Justice Indeed!
I remember watching when he was on that tear. Yeah he was terrific.
Wanted James, but great job Ken! Clearly he’s the GOAT.
I cannot be the only one happy to see James lose right?
Ken still is the Jeopardy champion once and for all.
I got this one right... one of my favorite moments while watching Jeopardy. Too much has changed since then 😔
Honestly, was there ever any question that Ken is the G.O.A.T.?
I was very surprised when James bet it all in final Jeopardy and lost the match. But my mom was predicting that Ken would win, and he did.
Ken Jennings = GOAT
Retired on Top. 🏆💯😎
Now Alex can retire. The show has come full circle and should end now so this man can enjoy his life. No need to have it anymore
john blaze you could be right.
He is in Jeopardy
He clearly wants to continue. He loves hosting. How dare you act like you know better than he does?
There's rumors and speculation that this was Ken's audition for the position after Alex. I hate to lose Alex, but I'd rather see him go looking good and keeping his pride. I'd really hate to watch his health decline in near real time. He's a decent man and I wish him only the best.
OK, to SAY that the show should just end because of Alex retiring is JUST WRONG. Look at the Price is Right. When Bob retired, did THEY stop? NO. Drew took over and is still solid good.
Wow! Congrats Ken Jennings!!
Congratulations, Ken Jennings!
You did it!!
All right Ken woo we love you
His wish has come true as the Greatest Of All Time.
1:44 that is the fattest smile I have ever seen on anyone
I still think that in the standard format with random contestants Holzhauer is the GOAT. His hyper aggressive strategy is just so difficult to beat and it really allows him to run up the scores on the average jeopardy contestant.
Ken Jennings should be the next Jeopardy host.
Ken looks utterly exhausted.
RIP Alex, the real GOAT on Jeopardy
James is truly great, no one mastered the money strategy of the game like him. If he'd had lasted as long as Ken did the cash winnings would have been many times more. But in the end, Ken's 74 days in a row is simply untouchable. In more than 20 years since he was a contestant, only 2 others have even gotten half way to the legendary streak. And even with James embracing risk big win big, his money won in 32 games couldn't beat Ken's 74 day total.
Way To Go, Ken!
It would only be fitting for Ken to be the new host.
We now need a GOAT rematch with Ken Jennings, James Holzhauer, and Matt Amodio.
Who should be the host?
Ally Brooke.
Brad rutter
I would said Matt will stand no chance against both even he is good
Ken Jennings can’t play again since he is hosting. There should be a GOAT rematch with Brad, James, Matt Amodio, and possibly Amy Schneider as well with Ken as host.
I love these three guys!!!
I thought he was going to say "for Ken Jennings to finally beat Brad Rutter"
I'm pretty sure Ken beat him in the IBM challenge (of course they both lost to Watson).
Alex just didn't think of saying that.
Ken Jennings is the Uchiha Madara of jeopardy
In the battle for survival, the weapon of choice is intelligence. Jennings for the gold.
Man Iago has got to be the easiest final of the tournament, I was shocked James missed that one while getting so many other tougher ones
RIP to the legend
Brad Rutter goes undefeated and wins all four major Jeopardy tournaments from 2001-19, defeating Ken Jennings in three of them, but nobody calls him the GOAT. Ken Jennings wins one tournament in 2020, and everyone calls him the GOAT. Congratulations to all three players!
Brad never had a 74 game winning streak. He won 3 in a row. They all had to compete against 2 equals who were all capable of taking points off each other on every question and brad failed previous tournaments were brad and ken and random insignificant other
@@matthewmacrow8142 Jerome Vered was a pretty strong third player. He just played before Twitter, so nobody knows about him. Roger Craig was the one-day record holder until James broke his record later. Bob Verini and Eric Newhouse were great players too. Twenty years from now everyone will say Ken, Brad, and James were overrated. It happens every generation, just like in sports.
@@urbanlegendsandtrivia2023 rather the point with roger. Could argue he had one episode where all the answers matched up to his knowledge the best. James did it every show for 30 shows
@@matthewmacrow8142 Yes, I have watched Jeopardy all 47 seasons, and last night was amazing. Roger lost in his seventh game, and Brad was forced to retire after his fifth game. He probably would have won at least 20 straight games.
@@matthewmacrow8142 "Brad never had a 74 game winning streak"
Not saying that he would've had one (at most I think he might've ended up in around the 10-20 day range), but that really isn't a fair comparison. Brad played in the old days of the show when contestants were forced to stop after 5 games, so we'll never know how long Brad could've actually lasted. Perhaps he wouldn't have gone on a Ken-esque streak, but a similar streak to Julia Collins or even James Holzhauer is certainly not out of the realm of possibility.
Alex is the GOAT but Ken has earned his share of the title! Congrats Ken!
Now that’s what I call Jeopardy redemption.
