Look for "100 Sing-Along Songs for Kids" by Cedarmont Kids. It includes many of the songs in Professor Carol's book. "Wee Sing America" is good as well.
Hymnals also add a hand/eye/mind/heart/mouth coordination that is unreplicable anywhere else. It drives the songs and scriptures inside a person. The loss of them to projectors is a great evil. One that could be partially mitigated by reintroducing the musical notation back onto the projector slides.

Yes! Music Appreciation comes first. Introduction to Music Theory is a little more difficult but a great natural progression. Hopes this helps!
