They probably charged you for the room again. Dispute the charge with you credit card company. The hotel then has to prove the charge is correct. Do so immediately.
I love staying at this hotel when I get into Mexico City. Unfortunately for you, the charge is definitely a bummer but I have never encountered an issue there. I usually show up with no reservation, request whatever room I want and get charged accordingly. I never book ahead of time and luckily have never encountered a no vacancy issue. Next time you need to stay in Mexico City just try to get the room without a reservation. There are options availanle near the airport should the hotel be booked entirely. I feel your pain though.
That was an excellent review of a nice property, however such a shame about the scam. I'd be tempted to contact the NH Collection directly, if you haven't already, and leave a public review about the MEX T2 hotel (they seem to reply to those publicly). I recently had an issue with a different chain of hotel and contacted the hotel chain directly, rather than the individual property (who didn't respond). A resolution was sought when I contacted the hotel chain directly and I was refunded. Also, if you paid on a credit card, you can speak to your credit card company and request them to do some digging about the additional cost and if they aren't satisfied either, they can probably ask that it be returned to your card.
