Really excited for this! I think this story’s a really interesting one to adapt and the cast looks amazing! Gemma Arterton and Alessandro Nivola look perfect for Sister Clodagh and Mr Dean, and it’s always wonderful to see actors like Jim Broadbent and the recently departed Diana Rigg (whose scenes we will all no doubt be weeping over)!

The original 1947 movie is amazing. I will watch this version, but I don't think I will like the actors chosen to play Mr. Dean or Sister Ruth.

In fairness, I think the author of the book hated P&Ps version. But looking at this trailer, the cinematographer at least seems to have been very influenced by it!

Who was asking for a remake of Black Narcissus?
Sarah3984 - It doesn't harm the original film to have a remake. This one looks interesting, I will watch it, but there is no way it will surpass the 1947 version.
Keep in mind that the 1947 Black Narcissus was from a different era. Many things were censored, many were left implied for the audience. This version might bring a more serious, erotic and dark telling of the tale. Not to disrespect the original but to tell it in a different way appropriate for the society we are now in.
Exactly! The original version had white people made up to play Indians (Jean Simmons in particular), so this version has the opportunity to be a bit more authentic.
Sometimes remakes are better. 3:10 to Yuma or Suspiria. Not saying this will be better, but having 3 hours to flesh things out more is a plus.

Why would you take one of the most visually stunning films of all time and turn it into this unsaturated slop? They couldn't even properly mimick the compositions that they're recycling. "Prestige television" is such a disease.
