Karl, I think it never hurts to have a heat/defrost. All windows tend to fog up, and it can still be a bit cool at night. I love what you’re doing. I’m 76 and wish I had known you when I was younger. I’m rebuilding a 1952 Chevy 5 window pickup and have already used some of your ideas. But, at my age, I can’t spend as much time or money to make it what I’d like for it to be. At this point in my life, I just want to get it done. Oh, I’m also a “retired” customer drag car painter and it kills me that I’m not able to make it a show truck. Oh well, at least it’ll be nice. Thanks again for your videos. Keep them coming.
There a good designers, who can't put their ideas into reality. Also there are skilled craftsmen, who are terrible Designers. Not only are you bringing these 2 abilities together on an outstanding level, but you're capable to teach and and fascinate with the whole topic. Thank you for all the inspirations. They helped me over a long rough time. Good onya mate🤜🤛
I finally subscribed. I wanna get a ratrod, and stumbled upon your channel watching ratrod build vids. Im 47 and I feel like you're my Dad explaining stuff to me about stuff in the shop. 😂 Ive been binge watching your vids. Love the shop truck! Keep it up man! P.S. Camera girl is stunning! 😍
As a fan of symmetry and simplicity I love that dash just how it is, adding much more would ruin it. Sometimes it’s all but completely aggravating watching you because of how easy you make it look. You’re far too humble to admit it but you are a super talented guy! Tell Brenda I says merry Christmas!! 😍
Karl I love that you’re making your own custom dash based on an old school design and sho ing how to do it for the viewers so we can learn by watching you build it. Turning out very cool . Keep up great work
Carl , the pattern forms you spend time to build are works of art all on their own. It’s really enjoyable to see your vision come to reality. Merry Christmas and have a healthy prosperous New Year.!
Amazes me how productive Karl is..he just gets things done...trimming the excess metal on the centre gauge thing using an angle grinder and sharpy as casual as you like. It would take me a week to do all that and even then the 'fear' of trashing a piece would ensure that week would turn into two weeks. Experience includes making mistakes etc and I make many...just waiting all my life for that moment when I'm able to just get on with it and do so whilst not making those mistakes...
Even though I subscribe I keep passing up your videos thinking they really don't apply to me because they are far more advanced than my skill. Today I realized they really do. Your are literally preserving and teaching an artform that we as a society cannot let pass away. As society is now producing throw away vehicles because cost to repair them outweighs their value it places more emphasis on what you and the rest of us do every time we make a repair to keep our favorite rides going. Hotrodders are the original recyclers and for every vehicle we save and no matter how dirty the engine runs, it far surpasses the energy requirements and pollutants it takes to manufacture a new vehicle. I just wanted to say thanks for the service you provide by making content and I will never pass by another video.
I'd look at probably a "Vintage Air" system Karl which would give you the lot, Heat, Demist, & A/C. That is just me though. I can see this with a removable Carlton roof, low & looking good. The Dash is amazing Mate, what come out of the depths of you mind sometimes is mind blowing. You should name your shop Karl's Killer Kars. Awesome content as always Mate. Billy J... Queensland, Australia.
I've been a fabricator and a hot rod enthusiasts for well over 20 years and I enjoy every minute of your videos, I love how you explain every step in full detail, I needed someone to give me these pointers all those years ago when I started. You sir are the real deal.
Karl . Sir, I wanted to thank you for the time you spend teaching your art, sir . I have learned a lot from you. And to answer the heater question, I totally agree . A/C isn't necessary but a heater is a must !
oh man, i feel so lucky to be alive at a time where i am able to basically stand by your shoulder watching you work from 4500miles away. what a total buzz. cheers man
Thanks for all you do, for all us home builders out there, your videos are priceless. And what you do has pushed me to try and take my tools and skills to the next level. Thank you. Hopefully you do another run of planishing hammers, definitely interested in adding one to my garage🤘🙌
An absolutely fabulous design and amazing to watch it come together. I’d definitely add heat. You may want to consider some vertical steps with the bead roller on the lower segment - keep the art deco flowing. Best wishes for a merry Christmas and happy new year to you and Kristina. Thanks for all the amazing content and congratulations on 300K subscribers.
Really like the way you show that a custom dash is just a bunch of little much simpler shapes and forms that are built upon each other, it takes a lot of the fear out of it. Except that freehand cutting you do, that's God tier skill. If I cut something without a jig or guide it somehow always looks like a dog chewed it 😅
Karl, I wish you a very merry Christmas, you've really outdone yourself with this dash I think it's looking beautiful. That dash looks very clean and fits well with the whole project look. Your explanations are very clear and well thought out, as are your techniques. Thanks!
Love it Love it Love it !! Heat and defrost would be good. The reason I tell everyone about your channel is because ...... You do things you don't gab through 3/4 of the time !! And when you talk you are teaching important things ! Love Make It Kustom !!! Merry Christmas my brothers !
Your willingness to make mistakes during the creative process makes your designs flow and adapt into greatness. I agree with your thought it needs a touch of brass below the gauge so it ties in with the Duval windshield. Also curve the bottom up into a small console after you get the seats in.
This dash is really looking great. Thanks for sharing your artistic genius and vision. You keep showing me whatever you can imagine you can make. Make It Kustom Baby. This is why I love watching you work
Love the clean lines on the dash - please do everything you can to preserve that - minimize buttons, etc (hide/move them all if feasible): let the dash speak for itself, it's terrific
My uncle lives in Wisconsin. When he was in collage he had an MG convertible and he put a heater core in fit from a big old Oldsmobile that was almost as big as the MG's radiator! He was able to drive that in the winter with the canvas cockpit cover (is that what you call it?) over the passenger seat and that heater would just blast out the hot air all around him! Heat is good in in California.
I'm nearing the 50yr mark and found a car that I want to build. I really wish that I'd have started this journey is my younger days but it is what it is. I've built several cars but most didn't need the amount of fabrication and bodywork that this car needs. This car does need a lot of body work mostly to the flooring and rear inner structure areas. Your videos have given me the courage to tackle this build. I'm converting a 72 Audi Super90 Wagon to AWD and have the floora cut out currently. I've gotten the rear subframe narrowed and x-members welded in. Now I'm working on the floor moving forward from the subframe. Since this car was FWD and pretty much had a flat floor, I removed everything and have to build a new floor with a driveshaft tunnel to the rear. Great work explaining everything in your videos!
Karl, Add defrost/heat. They make the vehicle more practical and drivable. That's what I want from my hot rods. These last 2 episodes are giving me great inspiration for my 52 Ford truck. Thanks
Man,you're a metal magician, your work is second to none.I have to watch your videos in one go,unlike a lot of others, running out of stuff to watch Christmas day now😂. Have a great Christmas to yourself,Kristina and kiddo.😎😎
You could go for 'hidden drop down glove boxes', like kitchen 'press IN to unlatch soft opening/closing drawers with no visible handles' (in the car press up) the underside of the storage box when pushed up operating the latch.. which then (instead of sliding) let's the glovebox hinge swing down, perhaps on a damped action, revealing the opening at the front of the box. To close it's pressed up closing and re-latching.
Brilliant way to spend Friday night at work. Watching your workmanship. I don’t no why but I see a palm tree 🌴 in the panel below the gauge with a full moon And all the switches hidden. Maybe I need a holiday!
Definitely keep the clean look. Those doors could have a simple net or pouch of sorts. Something done with metal wouldn't be terrible either. The heater idea is a must. Given the large amount of space, you could do something pretty big for ultimate comfort.
Like has already been said, you can’t go wrong with heat/defrost. Truly inspiring. Love watching you perform your art. Gives me a little to take and try with what I have. Thank you for sharing!
Hi Karl! Keep it simple, it's already amazing this way! To me, the switch panel should have a depression just like the quater panel. Can't wait to see the next part 👍
Yes add heat . Im building a 1968 topless blazer and im add heat and a/c for the customer and we live in Georgia. I think its a good idea. Keep up the great work im 60 years old been doing this a long time glad to see you young man doing.
Karl you can tell this is not your first rodeo! You make it all look so easy. Love the clean smooth look. Didn’t think I would. Put in defrost and heat. You’ll find a day that you’ll be glad you did as years pile up 😂 How do you not set yourself on fire at least once per show 🤔
Karl. looks GREAT!!!! A giant heater and defrost unit would be a good idea, I live at the beach in SoCal and would come in handy! I think minimal on the visible controls three tops including the ign switch. Keep up the good work and great videos I am an old time Harley chopper, hot rod and custom car builder (non pro) You are one in a million, my friend. Good quality, no drama, no profanity videos, RIGHT ON, Thank You, Ross
Brilliant workmanship once again Karl. Love the shapes and lines on this thing. Having the heat just in case is much better than not at all. You’re an inspiration to so many even as far as Australia. Keep up the great work.
Wowzers! I'm just a nobody back yard hot rodder, but me thinks what we have here is a future AMBR contender! She just keeps getting more elegant and refined! Go Japhands, keep moving forward!
Heat sounds right , maybe a simple louver vent for each window ,and what ever you want for floor heat . How about a wing vent on the outside of the windshield for fresh air in the summer. I know it's an open top, but I think those old pop-up vents were cool !! Nice work on the dash !!
I don’t have anything significant to say. But commenting=support and I’m constantly inspired by you, Karl. The symmetrical and simple dash design is gorgeous btw.

It's always nice to have a little heat when you need it and the defrost can be as simple as a line of small holes drilled in the edge of the dashboard, that would allow enough restriction to delete any control knob/lever from the smooth flow of the dashboard, in that car less is more so I would use push button switches instead of a toggle style, great design Karl, very elegant

Doesn’t look like a parking meter now. (Morons with no vision). Looks amazing! Kustom Karl does it again! Mint and original. Thanks. Merry Christmas!

Man with a great talent and creative mind. Gifted steady hands.
Once again, Beautiful metal work.
Great work, keep em' coming. Yours is the first channel I look up to see if there's new content everytime I login.
Like watching DaVinci at work! Seriously. Mad skills!

That "over the leg" bending form blew me away....genius!
Very enjoyable watching a master at his craft !!
Love the bronze rims with the windshield, sweet 👌
Hay Karl, little tip for rubber band on English wheel, use spray adhesive to keep rubber on then just wipe the wheel of with solvent.😊
I have to admit,I almost cried when you cut the dash.until I seen the panel installed.looks amazing Karl.
Karl . Sir, I wanted to thank you for the time you spend teaching your art, sir . I have learned a lot from you. And to answer the heater question, I totally agree . A/C isn't necessary but a heater is a must !
Love the dash! Heat and defrost sounds good to me.
Metalworking may be a skill you can learn with enough practice, Having a vision to start with is something few people have, and you have that gift.
oh man, i feel so lucky to be alive at a time where i am able to basically stand by your shoulder watching you work from 4500miles away. what a total buzz. cheers man
That looks awesome! I look forward to the next metal shaping lesson! Thanks!
Your welcome Larry happy new year buddy!

Commenting for the algorithm! Also, I love that coupe.
I’m so impressed by that Karl, its simplicity is perfect.

Your attention for details are mind boggling what seems simple to you is definitely rocket science to the majority of us. 🍻

Thanks a lot I appreciate that! This has been a challenging learning experience but a rewarding one!
Love the "leg plate" around the 18 minute mark, great idea
Will wonders never cease? Truly a masterpiece of innovation. Peace
Brother you are awesome at fabrication. Thanks for teach your fans the trade.
My pleasure! Cheers man !
I feel like that new dash piece would look perfect with one of those roller cam or flip clocks. It would be the finishing touch to that vintage style.
Looks like a work of imagination art and malleable creative creation
Love it Love it Love it !! Heat and defrost would be good. The reason I tell everyone about your channel is because ...... You do things you don't gab through 3/4 of the time !! And when you talk you are teaching important things ! Love Make It Kustom !!!

An old time on off switch with push button start in the centre, Carl your such an inspiration 👍🏻
You Are Amazing with the grinder

Thanks for taking all the time to explain to us dummies. I always learn so much
That car is something very special, you are so extremely talented and a pleasure to watch. Heaters are never a bad idea.
Leaving that parked for a couple of hours , it wouldn't leave my eye sight , nice job

More likely you're drinking on the job !!!
Some folk have skills & talent .. others are like me .. Artistic work Karl.
Definitely keep the clean look. Those doors could have a simple net or pouch of sorts.
Something done with metal wouldn't be terrible either.
The heater idea is a must. Given the large amount of space, you could do something pretty big for ultimate comfort.
I like the way the curve on the dash piece reflects the shape of the hood (bonnet).
for those cool nights, heated seats...
very nice work by the way...
Like has already been said, you can’t go wrong with heat/defrost. Truly inspiring. Love watching you perform your art. Gives me a little to take and try with what I have. Thank you for sharing!

A good match for the waterfall dash in your Lincoln! Imagine anyone owning two cars with the same dash!!
What can I say... Another fantastic job Karl!
Karl. looks GREAT!!!!
Looks great, the slight curvature Gives a character.
Wow! Craftsman and artist all in one. Love your work
Karl ..You are the Marcel of Canada .....Your ability to manipulate sheet metal into various forms is a testament to not only your creativity but more importantly your ability and to then make an instructive video that is interesting ,informative and inspirational reaches another sphere of craftsmanship......It was a pleasure to meet you on your trip to Australia and the evening at Jordan Bennetts Customs in Dunsborough...Keep up the good work my friend ...Best regards Graham -Busselton/Dunsborough West Australia
PS : Maybe put a Classy looking Old School V8 Emblem (Brass) mixed in with the Switches etc on the Centre Custom Dash
Rocker switches and ignition, I love that model A
It's always nice to have a little heat when you need it and the defrost can be as simple as a line of small holes drilled in the edge of the dashboard, that would allow enough restriction to delete any control knob/lever from the smooth flow of the dashboard, in that car less is more so I would use push button switches instead of a toggle style, great design Karl, very elegant
Merry Christmas Carl. This is one of my favorites in this series. As far as adding anything, someone told me once that a sign of a good musician is knowing when NOT to play. Food for thought.
Dash looks very very nice. It looks like a small airplane, which is good. :)
Great work, I've learned so much watching you over the years. You've never let me down on the great content
That dash is looking good Carl. Great job!
Sidetracked Channel gave you a shout out, he's putting a early Nissan 4x4 on a later more modern Nissan 4x4 frame, your lessons have helped him a lot with the metal work.
That’s awesome to hear thank you!!
Looks great! I can't wait for the next video. Thanks Karl. 👍👍🇨🇦
This is giving me a real Art Deco/Metropolis vibe, love it.
I would possibly go with a small Chinese diesel heater tucked under the dash on a remote/cell phone controller so you can preheat the car before you use it.
Love what you're doing and where this is heading. I like the clean look as well. Heater is a good thing. A cool night, driving along, you create your own wind, therefore chill factor. 60 degrees will feel a whole lot cooler.
A BIG red flamethrower handle! That's what the center of the dash needs! LOL...🤩
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year, from Oslo, Norway! 🧑🎄🌲
This dash board is like building an air plane wing !
Heater for the occupants. Heated screen for the visibility.
For the switches on the centre console maybe use a decorative metal inlay. Several British cars from the 50s and 60s used this as decoration and panels. The Hillman Minx I learned to drive in had this.
Always enjoy watching you work.
That is the definition of "a feature" that sets this build apart. It turned out GREAT! Now I can't wait to see what else comes along in the way of a console, shifter, etc. Such a pleasure to watch your work and artistry.
Master fabricator at work. That looks amazing Karl, simple lights and heater controls on the lower section.
Love watching you work. Enjoy the banter. The dash design reminds me of the mini cooper we once owned.
While the whole car isn't really My bag, I LOVE the degree of detail and effort You're putting into it!
I would definitely add heat and defrost capabilities as a minimum, hell, being from Texas I'd want A/C too!
Outstanding craftsmanship Karl!!!!!!!!
You Sir have been blessed with an eye to balance. truly you are an artist of great talent. Thanks
Maybe just me, but that dash is calling for an engine turned aluminum panel below the gauge, even if it’s a switch panel. Really enjoy watching your metal working videos, learning alot!
I had my doubts about the dash, but with the console and adding the instrument cluster- it's looking well planned and executed. Congrats on the progress this far. Greetings from Ohio.
As always, very cool and I learned some more.
Right on thanks !
Karl your the best at your patience at fabrication. And you have such a great eye seeing it. I think putting a defroster and in is a great idea. Putting the switches under the speedometer will look awsome. I’m proudly wearing your cap at this time. Love all you work. God Bless, and Merry Christmas to you as well 🎄🎁
