An incredible beast for shure! The Rhedosaurus and King Kong were some of the biggest inspirations to Godzilla so I tip my head down in respect to this beast and the man who made it!
Big Rhed was fantastic on film and as a model! The detail of this model is truly amazing! What a nightmarish dino! Thanks Warner Brothers, Ray Harryhausen, Ray Bradbury, and Star Ace Toys!
I love The Beast From 20,000 Fathoms! They show clips of that movie in some Joe Dante or John Landis films, which I thought it was a pretty cool homage.
The sculpt is highly accurate but does favor the poster/promotional images. I first saw this on television in the early 60’s and spent years trying to find it, again. At that time, there were typically only 3 television channels that went off the air at midnight and the entertainment tech we have today was still science fiction….no streaming, no cell phones, no internet, no personal computers….just had to keep checking the TV Guide and plan accordingly. If it was correct. But this rendition of the Rhedosaurus is the best yet that has been made available. I opted to wait for the unbuilt kit version which, hopefully, will be shipping this winter. It would be nice to see the Rhedosaurus get an updated film production but the original story line is waayyyy dated. Some changes will have to be made. And, Yeup, this is Godzilla’s inspiration. Good review!
Ray Harryhausen goofed a bit on the beast's tongue. For most of the film, it's just like the model. But one shot which the monster taking a walk through NYC has the tongue serpentine and flicking out.
I was very disappointed in the Star Ace Rhedosaurus because of the inaccurate "cobblestone" scale texture. Star Ace repeated this scale inaccuracy with its Gwangi, but it's not as bad as their Rhedosaurus. Star Ace did a much better job with their Kraken and Ymir which have cool-looking scale textures. Trivia for THE BEAST FROM 20,000 FATHOMS: the NYPD cop who is eaten by the Rhedosaurus as he attempts to reload his pistol shows up again as one of the cops firing their shotguns at the Rhedosaurus---and Lee Van Cleef is the Army sniper who kills the Rhedosaurus at the end of the movie.

One of my favorite fictional
prehistorics
Mine too!!!!
Rhedosaurus=Godzilla
Excellent Review Andy!!
I heard that Harryhausen had to cannibalize the Rhedosaurus for the fire breathing in The Golden Voyage Of Sinbad.

13:48, Rhedosaurus would have been the real King Of The Dinosaurs!
Both Godzilla and Kong film have been modernised, I would love to see that happens to Rhedosaurus as well.

Plastic model kit version - with lighthouse - to be released by X-Plus in 2024!!!!!!!!
😱😱 I actually didn't hear about this
Isn't this the monster that inspired Godzilla?
Sure is!
@@andysdinosaurreviews Awesome!
I noticed a massive difference. The head and neck sculpt is amateurish and incorrect. A very poor representation of a classic.
