Robot Wars peaked in series 5 in my opinion. - Hypnodisc were on a mission to win, the robot was in peak form and topped out with an epic battle with bigger brother in the semi final. - Razer was unstoppable. - Firestorm was proving to be consistently good against all opponents. - Chaos 2 was still riding the waves of 3 & 4 series wins and feared in the arena - Tornado was pushing everything around the arena with ease. - Wild Thing vs Chaos 2 Semi Final Fight was AMAZING and one of the best robot wars battles of all time. - Wheely Big Cheese did the record flip against Axe-Awe from the middle of the arena, straight out over the fence. - Pussycat was an unlikely aggressor in the arena after TWICE beating Razer. - S3 spectacularly destroyed Plunderbird 5 and looked very dangerous. - Mousetrap vs S3 was another spectacular battle. - Matilda rather savage with her flywheel! Definitely the Robot Wars peak season if you ask me.
One of my favourite episodes of Robot Wars ever. This marks the point where Firestorm begins to get REALLY good. That said, unusually reckless driving from Graham to get hit by Matilda's flywheel. I'm guessing he underestimated the power of it and didn't think it would damage him. Reactor 2 was another great one. Persistent and solid. That battle against Gemini really was excellent. It was way outclassed by Firestorm though, who gets the first of what will go on to be many OOTAs. Proving Front Hinge Flippers are a weapon to be feared.
Reactor’s fight against Gemini is one of the few times where having a dinky secondary weapon on the back end of the robot came in use. Gemini was always an interesting novelty but oddly never ended up being more successful than its predecessor Mace.
Mace was an excellent design for the initial span of the series, simple and efficient (and Heat Final to Semi-Final Round 1 material even in 4-5, if given some luck). Gemini, while an interesting experiment (and I am quite pissed that they were allowed into the Pinball of the 4th series), was honestly doomed to fail at some time. It is a Heat Final material at best, but I cannot imagine it beating any of Season 4 heat winners. It is a pity that they did not understand it (or it was too costly) and not came with the new design in 5.
After Series 5, they re-configured the qualification process, which I think was a good thing. I feel like Series 5 had way too many novelty/joke robots.
Yeah there were some shockers in this series without a doubt! I think the next one was better overall because there were a lot of good battles across all episodes rather than just the semis and final
The very first TV appearance of comedian Daniel Sloss came in this very episode. It made me wonder, has anyone else who appeared on Robot Wars as a competitor gone on to become famous outside of it for something else? I know Rex Garrod was well known for being the creator of Brum
Matilda is so harsh this episode... Rohog was absolutely trashed even though it moved after being counted out. Why was it counted out when it was pinned onto the sidewall?
Yeah limit is 100kg now to let them create better armour, and then comes Matilda with OP weapon and destroys Firestorm with no reason and they can't get 100% of their robot in next rounds
I think they wanted to find any excuse to show off the power of her new tail. Previously she seemed to be in the CPZ with her tusks facing out but now the flywheel was the way to go since they knew they'd created something destructive
Firestorm was the most capable robot in this heat. Had no trouble with BeeCapitator, rather more with Matilda's flywheel. Not sure if Chromalot won or Rohog just broke down. Reactor looks like a rather useless flipper, too high and top-heavy, tiny flipper, Bot out of Hell even more top-heavy. Ruf Ruf Dougal was just so big that Gemini didn't have the lift to tip it over. Was its shell supposed to be sacrificial? Firestorm had no trouble in scooping up Chromalot and tipping it over. Dead Metal almost drove itself into the pit - I wish. I have to say, Reactor was much better than I expected against Gemini. It has a roly-poly sort of self-righting that works, so even though most of the attacking was done by Gemini (because they were quicker and there was two of them) Reactor won quite convincingly. And this time Dead Metal did fall into the pit. I have to say I like the Reactor team, they're engagingly frank in their interviews. Well, Firestorm was all over Reactor, flipping them continually, never gave them a chance to recover, and ended up lifting them over the arena wall. Even the Reactor team had to laugh.
@@cr10001 I just meant in general... there's quite a few fights where they dominated the entire bout, but then one of them gets immobilized, and that's it
@@cr10001 that was also due to a slight design flaw and a great deal of luck.. it's not like Reactor 2 is some incredible machine 😅 I'm really not sure what the purpose of your comment is...
@@Frosty_tha_Snowman I was commenting about this fight only. I agree, in general, and in the case of two near-equal-size clusterbots, a rule that both have to be immobilised would make sense. So long as it isn't applied to some case where the main bot gets knocked out and some little impossible-to-hit 5-pound minibot has been hiding in a corner and pops out running around - I presume the BB rules exclude that somehow. I agree, I was expecting Gemini to be all over Reactor (and they were). And Reactor is a rather lumbering, not-very effective bot, as Firestorm demonstrated. But some excellent driving by Reactor, and a design flaw in Gemini as you say. Does a comment have to have a 'purpose'? - it was just what I said, to note that a rule such as you proposed wouldn't make any difference in this particular fight.
33:22, proof that the whole solid connection is a stupid idea, just freeze frame there. They wouldve been aok without that rule and wouldve rolled onto the floor. This is a restriction that not only does very little most of the time, but when it does something its always bad or mediocre. It has potential for the design choice, but why the hell give a bot with limitations and with a huge mobility concern EVEN MORE LIMITATIONS FOR NO REASON

I do, Gemini had the opportunity at the start to flip reactor out of the arena the way they did to creature in series 4 (their only real highlight) but they decided to leave it to self right and you could see their flipping arms losing power, but either way, firestorm would of won this heat!
May Steve Merrill have found peace.

Series 4 is my personal favourite but this one comes a close second.
I'd give series 6 the edge just because I prefer the heat format of group battles over 1 on 1 but series 5 is absolutely a close second.
it was my favourite series but now its series 10
I liked season 6, EXCEPT the Grand Final. Tornado should NOT have been allowed to have that ridiculous frame.
Tornado was outplayed by Diotoir in round 2 LOL
I'm never not going to laugh at the guy at the front of the crowd with his wooden floor flipper hand movement at 9:58, by the way.
Gemini is by far the greatest robot to never make a semi final. So frustrating!
Not really
Also Diotoir and the Steel Avenger
But the series 4 pinball king.

Also love how in this higher resolution you can clearly see 'Girly Boys' written on the top edge of Firestorm's flipper at 23:05
Or, maybe, just maybe, Firestorm didn't expect beecapitator to ride up the wedge and wanted to PUSH THEM INTO MATILDA. It wasn't their fault.
Found out about this after the Daniel Sloss Netflix specials.

Surprised the RSPCA didn't get involved considering the cruelty done to Ruf Ruf Dougal.
