So heartbreaking to see all of this happen. Montpelier is a wonderful little town and the people there are amazing. I obtained my bachelor’s degree there in one of the country’s first non-traditional programs. I spent multiple times in Montpelier between 2003 - 2007 and it is such a great place! Hoping the city does not suffer any more damage and sending well wishes to all of the residents there! ❤

I don’t know who the very first school was to do them, but University of Phoenix was the first one I was aware of. In the beginning they were mostly for-profit schools that did them, but now many universities and colleges have them. If you do one it’s important to make sure the program is accredited with a recognized accreditation program so you don’t end up with a junk piece of paper for a degree and a hefty student loan debt. That’s how some of the programs get in trouble.

I live in Montpelier and my downtown apartment home is directly across from the Winooski. My street was in fact the first to close. While we were making decisions on where to go, the river spillover happened so fast that me and many of my neighbors couldn't safely get out. We even had a poor gentleman stuck in our building because he couldn't get to his home just four houses down. When we called the police (who later sent a rescue team to check on us by speedboat), they told us that they could not evacuate us immediately because we could still climb to the highest part of the building on the third floor and even get on the roof, if necessary. They had to prioritize those without the option to climb to safety. Clearly, we understood that rationale. Bit the rising water was very unnerving and made it impossible to soundly sleep. I hated was so fearful of the lights going out. My apartment is on the first level and the water was steadily climbing the steps to our balcony. To keep me calm and renew my mind to faith, my aunt sent me this biblical promise from God to His people:
    ISAIAH 43:2
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you."
It was just the reminder I needed that God has promised that He will be with His people in their most troubling times, supporting us through us, giving us the strength to move beyond them and delivering us out of danger without harm. God's Word also assures that the prayers of His people are powerful and effective as He hears and responds according to His perfect will. So it was added comfort and encouragement when my neighbors, friends, and family from all over also assured us they were fervently praying for me, my neighbors and the rest of Montpelier. I was admittedly losing hope as it seemed inevitable that I would lose everything and become homeless in a matter of hours as the water kept rising, there was more heavy rain predicted, the nearby dam was almost at holding capacity, and we were getting alerts on our phones that it would be catastrophic with few evacuation options with inoperable police radio and communications should the North Branch river spilled unprecedented amounts of additional water into the streets.
I tell you that nothing short of miraculously, the forecasted rain stopped halting the rising water from breaking the Wrightsville dam and the water suddenly receded. Yesterday morning I was amazed to see my street once again rather than a raging river. I had to pinch myself because it seemed so impossible when only a boat could access us just the following afternoon. I am so thankful to God. I've been in the wake of hurricane Isabelle and without electricity for a week as well as endured damage from tornado winds. This is the scariest weather related incident I've lived through. But God . . . 🌈❣

He created the world and the laws of nature.
He told us what we need to do or not do, in our best interests.
He allows us to experience the consequences of our choices.
      Food for thought:
“The wrath of God is being revealed from heaven against all the godlessness and wickedness of people, who suppress the truth by their wickedness, since what may be known about God is plain to them, because God has made it plain to them.
For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.
For although they knew God, they neither glorified him as God nor gave thanks to him, but their thinking became futile and their foolish hearts were darkened.
Although they claimed to be wise, they became fools
They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator-who is forever praised. Amen.
Furthermore, just as they did not think it worthwhile to retain the knowledge of God, so God gave them over to a depraved mind, so that they do what ought not to be done.
Although they know God’s righteous decree that those who do such things deserve death, they not only continue to do these very things but also approve of those who practice them.”

Worked in the Environmental Testing Industry, attended numorous seminars and worked with Geologists, Engineers, Scientists and Climatologists and y'all have no F*@KING CLUE what's coming over the next 25yrs. Even though the beginning is happening right in front of your faces and has been the last 15 years, Our addiction to convenience, being easily manipulated, and horrified by the thought of losing convenience has sealed our fate. We already reached tipping points. Everything you're being fed is to prevent Anarchy. We've got about 125yrs of Habitable Climate left. So no need to change anything we're doing as it will be meaningless. Those of us who have young grandkids, the latter years of our kids lives will be pretty tough as habitable areas decline. The future for our grandkids is unimaginable. Everything they do will be based in survival and I'm not talking about Wall Street as there will be no Wall Street. Their daily job will, literally, be acquisition of Shelter, Food, Water and Defending it. Now this is going to set off the denyers, If you want an Idea of what the late part of our childrens lives, grandkids and beyond is going to be like (Idea! Not roadmap) Watch the Mad Max trilogy. It's amazing how many Scifi movie depictions have turned out to be predictions. I regret I won't be around to say I told you so.

You'll notice that the non flood plains- aren't flooded. Who would think, after the entire state was destroyed- it would happen again.
Bet you they will rebuild in the same places, ask for insurance, and cry when it happens again. My parents live there, house is fine, because it wasn't built in a flood plane. Who would have ever guessed? Next we will be building on the top of active volcanos because they don't erupt often...

Like we haven't been warned since the 50s.

It does generate power. There is a pipe at the base of the dam that conducts water into the power generation facility. It is likely that they are running as much water through as they can. In addition, it has an emergency spillway that has never been used since the dam was built. It does not look in good condition. The dam does not appear to have been built with the need to lower the reservoir rapidly as a feature. The blancolirio channel has a brief report, with drone footage along the spillway. ruclips.net/video/46-70iCCxxM/видео.html

Not every natural disaster is about climate change. You know when had floods like this in the early 1900s, right?

The El Niño event combined with the wind shear and polar vortex diving down makes for a very active northeast storm season and a very hot American south. The jet stream runs directly over the northeast so all the storms are being pushed directly into the Vermont area. These storms normally would be further north into Maine, which is why it has such a large rainforest, same as Washington state. As long as the dramatic wind shear exists the US won’t see a major hurricane, but if it pulls back by a few hundred miles, you’ll see some absolute enormous hurricanes rip through the Caribbean and Canada will get inundated with flooding

You would think we can bring the top minds to create underground water tunnels to funnel the excess water to areas with drought. If we can go to the moon, we can do something like this. Just saying. 🤷🏽‍♀️
Imagine all the jobs we would create.

You have no concept of the scale of the problem, do you? And you have no idea how unusual and massive these events are. I was at Newmarket NH recently where a bridge stood over the Lamprey River for more than 100 years and was never damaged reached by the water. Then in May 2006 the river, which I have never seen more than 1 foot deep, even in the spring thaw, rose more than 10 feet and washed the bridge out. Look at what happened in British Columbia a few years ago, the rivers destroyed massive areas which had been undisturbed since the glaciers retreated.

@@laurameunier5290 You need a basic education in where the vast amount of resources goes to in the US budget. NASA only accounts for 1/2 of one percent of the US budget per year. That's about 30 billion $. And with that we see a continuous flow of technological derivations that help society as a whole. Do a search of the Benefits of Space Explorations to educate yourself.
Then look at the US military which is at 800 billion $$ despite there being no major conflict in the world that the US is DIRECTLY involved in. If you want to see where the real waste, fraud and abuse is going like at the US military budget!!
