Besides the quickstick and the Intellivoice, there was also supposed to be a keyboard add-on, but it never came about. From Vice's article on the Intellivision: "In late 1981, as it was clear Mattel Electronics would miss its promised deadline to release the device, comedian and noted Intellivision fan Jay Leno played MC at the company's Christmas party, and he had clearly been aware of the hell the company had created for itself: "You know what the three big lies are, don't you? 'The check is in the mail,' 'I'll still respect you in the morning,' and 'the Keyboard will be out in the spring.'""

I talked about the keyboard in the other video that I linked on the Intellivision III

The kittens stole the show completely.. Actually, I had to rewind twice to be able to get what you were saying during their time on-screen :-)

The modern Dpad did come from Nintendo's Donkey Kong Game and Watch. The NES helped make it mainstream. Dpads before that were made of separate buttons, ie the Microvision, so a pretty different beast all together.

I never even knew the Intellivision got an official release in the UK, I don't remember seeing them anywhere!

That controller has to be used with both hands. I remember seeing some kind of illustration on the manual, on how to handle that controller

Back then Atari 2600 was the number one console followed by the colecovision that was catching up quick ..it was like the rivalry Sega had with Nintendo few years later the intellivision was a distant 3rd

Love my Inty, there really are some cracking first and third-party titles for it. Can highly recommend Burger Time, Frogger, Demon Attack and Tutankham.

I've always preferred the Intelivision to the Atari 2600. I like the fact that because the controller had more buttons, there were a lot more ambitious games like RPG's, strategy games, simulation games etc compared to the arcade centric 2600.

Yeah but having 9 buttons on a remote style doesn't make sense. Because for example, a traditional layout like an snes controller for example has about just as much buttons on that remote, and it melts into your hands, and you don't really have to look at the controller to find the button you wanna press. You see, that's when a controller fails is when you have to look at the controller when you are playing the game. They game with overlays but that states my point even further.

Interesting, here in US version there is no sound controller and our power cable is not detachable. What’s sound controller is for? Was that a revision some sort?

I never thought Intellivision graphics looked that much better than the 2600, especially later games. For example Commando looks much nicer on the 2600. Has got far superior sound though.

Quite a few games look better on the Intellivision. A good example; check out the difference between the 2600 and Intellivision version of Lock n Chase.

I bought one when it first came out. I gave it to my father. It was great until I played a Colecovision. I bought that one too. Christ I hate that I was an early adopter. I wish I had the $300 back that I paid for my first 4 function calculator. 😏👍. Your console is in great shape. Nice!
