  • What‘s up everybody? Welcome back to my channel!
    Finally the last episode on the rough idle series. After replacing the hoses, I focused on the ignition and found the fault. The spark plugs! They were so toasted that it was a miracle the car ran anyway
    What I did in this episode is following:
    - Cleaning the air flow meter with valve cleaner
    - Engine flush
    - Oil & filter change
    - Spark plug change
    - Sanding the connectors of the distributor cap and rotor
    Now the car is running smoother than ever. The only problem is the engine won't start when it's cold. As soon as I find the problem, there will be an update on this. If you have any clues, let me know in the comments.

    For the bad ignition check your battery, OVP relay as well

    One of the causes of a bad starting on these cars may be the Kjet injection, it is known for having difficulties to start if you dont use the car too often

    My 190E was just not starting when it was cold would take like 2 minutes of cranking to start it then it would run fine and start fine when it was warmed up, just turned out to be the OVP Relay

      Did it look like your ovp relay have issues? Mine looks brand new but I have poor idle until it warms up then goes fine

    Did you find the issue with the cold start warm up issue? I'm having the same issues with my 230e

      Not yet. The issue was more or less fixed by the good weather. But I guess I need to dig into that since it’s getting cold again. Many persons told me that it could be the OVP relay. Maybe I will start checking from there.

      Hi, sorry for the late response. To be honest I just wipe down the dust with some regular cleaner. But in real life it’s not that clean as it looks on camera. Maybe there will be a future episode about an engine bay clean. Appreciate your feedback and support! Regards from Germany 🇩🇪👋🏼

      Because of the age of my Mercedes, "1987"
      there is oil build-up on parts of the engine that I know can be cleaned up - I just don't know the safest way to do it.
      It would be fantastic if you did a video just on cleaning!

    Did you figure out WHY your plugs were "fouling" up with soot? I've been told that's a fuel mixture issue but I'm not sure that can be adjusted with KE injector systems. Low compression in those cylinders maybe?

      In my case, the valve stem seals were worn and needed replacing. I have another episode for that. The plugs are fine since I replaced them. I hope this helps!

      Thank you. I will focus on it once I sorted out another major issue. It seems that my locking system is dead and I can’t refill fuel 😅

      @@KUNIQUE der Tankdeckel hat eine Notöffnung 🙈 wenn du im Kofferraum die Verkleidung abmachst ist dort ein Seilzug oder so, den man ziehen kann. Oder hab ich dein Problem falsch verstanden?

      Leider ist die Notöffnung auch defekt. Dieser rote Knopf hängt lose drin und entriegelt die Klappe nicht. Muss das ganze Teil auswechseln.😅

    My 190E idle vibrate when I turn on the AC but smooth when AC off. Do you know the possible cause?

      Could be the OVP relay, when they go bad they can cause all sorts of problems. Does you (ABS) lamp light up occasionally?

    kaltstart/coldstart problems = ÜSR/OVR (überspannungsschutzrelai/overvoltage relay) oder/or kaltstartventil/coldstart valve...ÜSR/OVR einer der häufigsten probleme/very commen problem...sonst kann es auch/ it also could be = benzin druckspeicher/petrol pressure accumalator...

      @@KUNIQUE benzin druck sollte soweit mich erinnere mit motor abgeschaltet sprich ruhend 2,5-2,8bar aufrecht halten....sonst druckspeicher defekt... und die benzinpumpe bei laufenden motor etwa 5 bis 5,5bar aufbauen...fürs ventil,am besten kurz abschrauben aber angeklemmt lassen und in ein becher hängen,kurz motor starten +schauen ob einspritzt...falls nicht kann es aber auch das ÜSR schuld sein anstatt ein defektes ventil...ohne üsr ist dein auto quasi in einem analogen notlauf...würde auch mit dem üsr bei der fehlersuche anfangen...am einfachsten ist probeweise eins rein das bekanntermaßen funktioniert von einem anderen w201 o.w124 ansonsten lästige durchlassprüfung des relais mit einem multimeter...aber zu 95% ist eins der drei kanidaten die uhrsache für dein problem...

    Meiner startet genau so bescheiden wie deiner.. hast du schon irgendeine Vermutung? Kaltstartventil oder so? Tolles Video MfG.

      Leider noch keine Vermutung. Ich werde aber mal den Kaltstartventil, Benzindruck und Überspannungsschutzrelais prüfen. Muss halt nur auf gutes Wetter warten. Aber sobald ich eine Lösung habe, werde ich es hier teilen. Übrigens vielen Dank für das nette Feedback.

      überspannungsschutzrelai, kaltstartventil, oder druckspeicher der ke...drei häufigsten kaltstartprobleme beim w201...bei meinem war es das relai...

      The rough idle is fixed. The reason was the carbon on the spark plugs. But it seems it builds up some carbon again. I need to figure out what the issue is.

    Never spray inside!! Use brush and apply on the brush and clean.That’s why you have a bad start

    The condition of your spark plugs looks like you have leaking valve stem seals. When the car is hot the oil will be more fluid and leak past the seals and foul up your spark plugs. Once the heat and carbon that are on your plug cool of overnight, it becomes a thick sooty coat over your plugs which may be more noticeable when the engine has sat overnight or is cold. Until the engine gets to operating temp again and is able to burn off most of the thick coating until the next time the engine is cold. The cycle continues and will become worse over time as the car tries to compensate by dumping in more fuel and soaking your pistons and creating an extremely rich mixture which will eventually clog up your catalytic converter and you won't be able to accelerate past 70 mph.....while only getting about 10 miles per gallon. Ugh, yes, a very viscous cycle indeed. It's been several months now, hopefully you've gotten this sorted out.

      Hello Britanny, thank you very much for the good explanation and the valuable tip! In fact, I recently had to change my catalytic converter because it was clogged. The fuel consumption and the performance don't seem entirely normal to me either. It could actually be the valve stem seals. I will definitely do that soon. Thanks again!
