I remember playing maniac mansion years ago. Point & click games aren't something I normally play but there was just something about that game that kept me coming back for more.
I was just playing that a couple days ago! Pro-tip, my friend. You can play it in SCUMM VM for PC, after doing a pretty simple process to dump the game's code into the PC format, with MOUSE SUPPORT and HOTKEYS. If you're interested, and can't find the info on how to do it, let me know and I'll help get you set up. It's AWESOME.
That flicker in Castlevania III looks like what happens when instead of wiring the CHR /A13 signal to the slot properly (i.e. by grabbing CHR A13 from pin 65 of the cartridge slot and passing it through a 74HC04 inverter before sending that to pin 58 of the slot), the pin is hard-wired to Ground. Seen this happen on the 8-Bit HD as well, which does the same thing with CHR /A13, and I inadvertently discovered this beforehand while messing with older clones that leave CHR /A13 floating.
I'd love to see how the budget HD NES systems compare to the RetroUSB AVS to see if it's worth the extra coin..

We can't guarantee 100% compatibility with all after market cartridges, but it should play a few of them. They have not been tested at this time so I cannot really confirm or deny. Sorry!
According to first amazon review it does NOT support the everdrive.
I too would like a cheap nes clone that outputs in hdmi and supports flashcarts. Looks like we wait longer

@Retro-Bit its still a neat device but I think a decent portion will skip for lack of everdrive/flashcart support. Sad since many of the older clones you guys made worked pretty well with them.

One of my favorite game channels! I’ve recently started collecting games but only Atari 2600, N64, and GameCube. PS4 and switch I get all digital. What all consoles do you own/collect for?

How could you talk 12 minutes about this thing and not even *mention* it doesn't support 4:3? You know, like the Retron 1 HD...
I think just about every HDTV has a 4:3 mode that shrinks the image, so it shouldn't really be an issue.
Not quite as simple as that Brightside. The feature exists in other clones for a reason. You would want the console to support it natively instead of taking a 16:9 output that was forcibly converted from a 4:3 source and externally cramming it back down to 4:3. Thats some crazy inception level post-processing right there lol
Mine doesn't.
It's not really adding any addition post-processing though. The TV will likely do an upscale from 720p to 768p or 1080p (depending on your display's native resolution), and it will depend on your TV and it's algorithms how well it handles that. From there, all your doing is horizontally "squishing" the resulting image, not really adding any addition processing.
And well over a minute was dedicated to a minor graphical glitch affecting certain sections of a specific game. But the inability to output _any_ game at the correct aspect ratio was too insignificant to note, apparently.

I did not hear any audio out of the console.
But it seems to be a good system.

Good review man. Gonna test out some more homebrews and repros when I get mine. The Retron HD would not play some games. Hopefully this guy does the trick. Though the AVS is where its at, everything has worked on my AVS.

Have you thought about comparing the three HD clone consoles to a hacked NES Classic to see which plays games the best?
I feel the Hyperkin Retron HD would be the worst of those three. Unlike many of these clone devices, Hyperkin's device doesn't sharpen the picture quality nor smoothen the gameplay. All it does is upscale the 240p to work through HDMI. The only redeeming feature of the Retron HD is the 4:3/16:9 feature and the cool new controller.

For what concerns me, I'm much more exited with the Hyperkin Supa retron Hd. I feel that at the moment there is enough NES clone systems. Keep the good work!
Considering how terrible of video quality their Retron HD was, I don't think the Supa Retron HD would be any better. It certainly may be well design but the video and gameplay quality may not be so good.
Oh I have to pick up one of those RES systems. I just got my hands on a handheld called the CZT but it's nothing compared to the Caanoo, Dingoo A320 and the GCW Zero handhelds.

For the people wondering, most (if not all) TVs have an option to "shrink" the image to 4:3, even my Sony 4K does, so the console stretching to 16:9 shouldn't really be an issue. Some TV remotes call the options "picture", some call it "zoom", some like mine are just called "wide", and it'll have a few different picture size options usually, including 4:3.

I do not own THIS console, but I DO own a Retro Bit Super Retro Trio that is made by the same company and an EverDrive-N8 does work on that console. An SD2SNES, and a Mega EverDrive-X7 also works. I can't be 100% sure though, but I wanted to put the information out there. Also, the Retro Bit Super Retro Trio is NOT HD. You folks can draw your own conclusions from that, I just wanted to put the information out there. Hope that helps.

Mine was DOA. Had to return it. I'm doubting whether I should order another one or just keep the refund and move on.
So when we say get a knife that does not mean opening up boxes before you start recording with a screwdriver.
If you are gonna do these reviews you need to make sure you have a few flash and multi carts lying around for testing. That stuff is make it or breakit factors for people in the market for these in 2017.

Great video! From what I can tell, this system gets colors better than the Retron HD but the fact that widescreen is the default is a little disappointing. I'm curious to know which one you like more.
The #1 thing I always want to know with these sytems is if they allow Flash Carts :) haha

So, I'm sorry if this is a dumb question but, will this thing play Famicom games? Also, do NES and Famicom cartridges have different sized boards? My younger cousin got one of these, and I was considering getting him some Famicom games for it...

Sound is not correct for Ninja Gaiden. I wish you wouldn't take over the game footage because it is hard to hear the game and I want to accurately judge the consoles ability.

Zema Duvant I wrote the first review on Amazon. This console doesn't support the Everdrive.
I have this system have not used it yet, I did notice my controller is different than his.. the A B on his the B looks to be higher than the A. On mine they are next to each other like the original NES

Looking forward to the triangle death match lol. I have the Retron HD and though it's not perfect, it's a good deal for just $40.
This clone is also $40, same with Gamerz Tek HD. The only thing different is that the Retron HD came with only one controller and an inferior image quality whereas the Gamerz Tek and RES HD both came with 2 controllers and had better image quality. All support AV and HDMI out but Retron HD give you the option to change between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio whereas the other two you had to do that via your TV option, all are region free though the Retron HD had the option of allowing PAL games to play in 60hz. All are prices at $40 as well but since the Retron HD only came with one controller, getting the full package like the other two will cost an extra $15, in the end the Retron HD with two controllers is really $55 and not $40 like the other two.
And the sound didn't sound as full as it should be on Castlevania III.

I'm kinda new to the channel so forgive me if you've already covered this but, are there any nes clone consoles that have the games built in? I've emulated a few games on my crap computer but I'd love to have a console that I could plug into my tv.

Does it output both composite and HD at the same time? This is a good feature for those who stream tournaments.

It has the deal where you have to adjust it on the TV, and since I was using my cap card I didn't bother. Common for budget systems, although the Retron HD does have the option with a switch.

Will this system run my nes well? The retron hd does a weird background ground thing with castlvania 1and 2. I’m not sure the technical term but I can’t help but constantly notice it. I just need a clone that plays games right. Please help?!

Does this support the Famicom Disk System?
I believe every NES clone does does support it, you just need a Famicom converter and the FDS itself.
