Some good tips, especially regarding ways to reduce cost. Play with the cheap stuff and get a feel for what you like before you drop a load of cash on expensive gear. 9 times out of 10 you'll find out that the cheap stuff works just fine and you save a lot of dough!

Def. check out the thrift stores! I got most of my cooking gear at various thrift stores, including a coleman two burner propane stove for $12.00 ( used maybe once or twice, wasp nest plugged the vapor tube!), stainless pie pans for plates, stainless bowls, utensils etc.

I agree that you don't need to spend a lot of money on camping cookware. You can equip your entire camping kitchen (except for the stove) at the Dollar Store.

Nice Posting .. some good advice .. thanks 👍.
My favourite 1-Man Pot is a Stainless Steel (SS) Tea Caddy 'liberated' from the Kitchen and modified by adding a removable Pot Handle fashioned from a SS Bicycle Spoke and a Picture Hanger for the Lid. Robust and Cheap. I make my breakfast oats in it daily .. in and outdoors 😊.

Just went to SAIL the other day, my mom was looking for a tent, but I went to the cookware section. Saw an MSR 1 person cook pot with a lid for 80$ CAD. what a joke, my camping pot set from Amazon works just fine thank you very much. Great point man, expensive is not always the way to go.

Great informative video, I myself agree with you completely. Nice expensive gear does have its place but quality budget friend gear will do in the beginning or for most adventure purposes. Especially when your not sure of your needs. 👍🏻

I have been camping much of my life and if I were to start over I would buy either the rothco or stanley set just to get started, the last time I was out we had a family group of 8 people for that many I would bring a cast iron dutch oven with lid that you can cook on or a steel wok with lid

The definition of camping varies a lot from country to country, though. Here in Norway you camp in the wild, and bringing a cast iron Dutch oven or a wok pan isn’t very practical when you hike up mountains or other dramatic terrain. I wish it was, though, as I would love using cast iron, but we don’t have camp grounds that we can drive to as it’s never been a part of our culture - on the flip side, we can legally camp and build fires pretty much anywhere, as that’s also always been a part of our culture. I’m considering buying a 6-6.5 inch cast iron skillet for camping, though, do you think that would be too small for 1-2 people on a hike?

Thanks for this video. I would like to get and back into camping, but this is something I haven’t done since childhood. Lol. I want to get out into more rural areas to camp, but I sure should start out with surviving a few nights at some campgrounds until comfort what I’m doing. It would probably suck to head out like a badass just to end up dying like a dumbass.
    😵‍💫😵 Lol.

Why does no one mention carbon steel cookware? It is not as heavy as cast iron, can retain heat just as well and not as brittle.

distante _ it is on the small side, and the shoulder strap could be a little more comfortable. I do like it overall though, and if you have it set up right it will work pretty well as daypack, or a go-bag in your vehicle or something like that.
