"RAY" Promaster walk through (E43) Camper Van Conversion

- This is a 2018 Dodge Ram Promaster 2500 159"wb. I spray foamed it with closed cell foam from Foam it Green. It has knotty pine tounge and groove on the walls and ceiling. It has 510w watts of solar, a Renogy 50a dc-dc charger with MPPT, 2000w Renogy inverter/ charger, and 2 Renogy 100ah lithium batteries, and a 500a Renogy battery monitor. It has a Domestic CFX 75DZW 12v/electric refrigerator. It has a camp chef stove, 6 gallon fresh water, 7 gallon gray water, and a shurflo water pump. It has butcherblock countertops has 2 coats of espresso stain and 4 coats of polyurethan and sanded with 1500 in between each coat. It also 2 7500 Maxxair fans.

I'm the owner and I couldn't be more pleased. I'll have a Thetford Cassette Toilet on slides at the access door to under the bed (garage as we call it). The 14" spot beside the stove will have a wooden box as my laundry hamper and provide a step up to my bed. Red is talented and easy to work with. I recommend him to anyone who has any kind of vehicle build project. As an added plus, he is very conveniently located. Thank you, Red.
Edited to add: Driving the van home (300 miles) I found a lot more stability with the weight vs driving it to Red's with an empty cargo area. Eighteen-wheelers were not pushing me around and the winds we've been fighting lately were not even noticeable. I felt very secure driving it home.

Red did a beautiful job. It's a limited space so the decision to install a shower must have been difficult. I think some people could get utility from a shower but most would just be wasting space. Red builds things to last so the interior is plain just because it's all white. After you use it for a few months, I would like to hear your thoughts. After 44 years in home improvements I know what quality and craftsmanship is and how things used to be built in a time when the finished product counted as much as the builders profits.
To the naysayers who post unnecessary and negative comments, I’ll bet these van builds far exceed the level of quality in your homes. If your home was built to this (Reds) standard you could not afford it. These are all hand crafted one of a kind finished products. In the prices he has kindly shared there is a great amount of money in the supplies (not cheap crap)so don’t think it all goes into his pocket. One day I’d love to meet this man and see his operation and something in the works being built.
If you listen to the narration you can hear all the attention to detail and sense the amount of satisfaction he gets from his effort.
I guess some people are just miserable beings, they get joy out of mindless chatter. Maybe they can look elsewhere for something to watch.

I absolutely LOVE it. I LOVE the crisp, clean look with white. Some may see it as sterile but you can just add touches of color with your decor.

I am seriously coveting this vehicle. The colors are very nice and will allow much flexibility in decorating as you live in it. The layout is among the best I've ever seen! I'd need more room for the entry (I'm a big guy!) There are just so many great ideas here, thank you for sharing this with us.

The links were very helpful, especially the gas struts. Hard to find good quality struts.
fyi - you may want to get a wide angle lens for ease of photos in small spaces.

You are an amazing craftsman! As a home designer I understand your limitations regarding colors and styles that the customer picks. I often have to look away and draw something that I don’t like but due to what the customer wants, I do it (and enjoy getting paid for it)!
I absolutely love the power location and how clean it is as well as the propane box. When I get my van I may need your help...but first there is a truck bed/camper chuck-box to build.
Awesome build!!!! Really well-built! I’ve got to show this to my hubby....we are 11 months out before we ‘purchase’ our van, but I love this!!!! Not a fan of the ‘stock-made’ class b vans! We want quality above all else!!!!

This is an absolutely beautiful build! I love the convenience of the entire layout. Not only quality cabinetry, but, the electrical system is so clean and neatly laid out also! 1400 lbs is lighter than I thought it would be, and it will stand up. The owner should have many years of enjoyment with this unit! Congratulations.

wow. just WOW !! WVevie congratulations. You have an amazing new adventure. I am 68 and just starting my build. Sprinter 2015 xt I am just finishing insulation and ready to attack. I have been stockpiling materials for 6 months getting ready for summer so I can do the foam . Me and my 4 dogs will be heading out Dec 1 for 6 months (or more) then back to Northeast for summer. I I retired to the Caribbean then 2 years ago Hurricane IRMA destroyed my home. I lost everything. It has taken me two years to recover. but now I am getting up at 6am ready to work. YAHOO> With 4 dogs I need an open design so I have planned out what should work for us. leaving in factory bulhead and removing pax seat where I will have a platform with cage for dogs that accesses back into cabin. I build and fly drones FPV and plan to travel and fly in every State and do a fun RUclips. NEW ADVENTURE !!

Well red it's been 3 weeks I hope everything is well on your end just ready to see some progress that you've made or what you been working on I hope you and your family are well me haven't had the greatest luck lately had a stroke but I'm actually feeling much better waiting on to get carotid artery surgery hopefully be back to pretty much to normal soon anyways just wondered what you been doing and what are you been working on I'm needing a video LOL hope all is good
Not sterile at all. It looks like a fantastic canvas for here to decorate. The light base will make tha van feel less cramped. Imho

Beautiful job! Since the van can be off grid for quite a while, with so much in the way of power and storage, I’m amazed at the tiny water supply. Seems way out of balance. My prediction, the owner will install an underslung tank before too long. Also, all those drawers when full... so heavy on fuel. But, the build is very solid, and I love the work around the cab, with the full enclosure!
Thanks, the owner has no plans to add any additional water tank. She has a second 7 gallon jug equaling 14 gal. These vans are designed to haul 4,000 lbs. And they will average 14 - 17 mpg. Loaded or empty. With the build weighing 1,400 lbs and even if she adds 1,000 lbs of stuff it will be 1,600 lbs below the max GVWR. So it will be fine on fuel mileage.
I found some 4 gal jugs on Amazon. Two each fit behind the seats. That's an additional 16 gals.
I did a short trip this weekend a little over 200 miles. I got over 16 mpg.

spectacular build Red, I always recommend you on the different FB van group pages when folks write in asking for a good custom builder
by watching these over time I know when i trade up from my wayfarer kit I will go with a 2500/139 but will prefer to have gray carpet rather than too much wood but the woodwork is beautiful
Two concerns for me on this build
1. As only applies to me, I am disaster prone and would need some kind of partition to cover all those electrical connections and wiring because I know I will rip it out loading and unloading large/ bulky items, it’s my bad luck.
2. what is the risk factor crash wise of having the propane in that location as opposed to somewhere with a lower percentage of crumple in a crash? obviously it’s very conveniently located and I’ll bet you’ve thought this through.

Its not as dangerous as just hauling one in the back of the van or in the living area or in the front floorboard.
Very nice build Red, I admire your patients and your level of skill, I wish I had at least one of those traits, so wish me luck! lol. I'm planning on starting a Promaster 3500 conversion in the spring of 2021. This build you just finished is almost the same as the build I have in my head for my build. But? I'm thinking of framing the cabinets with 1 1/2 aluminum angle using either pop rivets or nuts and bolts? I'm not sure which one just yet. The plan is for a single futon/Murphy style bed behind the driver's seat and the cabinetry will be cubbies with metal sheet mesh faces/doors sliding side to side. Have you ever heard of aluminum angle being used for cabinet framing in a build before? I'd be interested in your opinion on this idea! I'm in Canada so I have to keep hot and cold transfer and retention in mind as well. Once again nice build Red.
What would be more important then having a toilet and shower in any van,take a shower any time any where,same thing with a toilet, comfort is more important than anything else
