    I’m watching the video again just because I’m missing our simple van life. The only thing that keeps me happy is knowing that you will keep the hard work and there will always be another van. You are amazing and I’m lucky to be sharing this beautiful life with you. You are seriously great! And I’m happy this nice van has a new adventure owner who will take a good care of it. Keep the good work, Babe

    Buy some collapsible bins from Dollar Tree to organize your kitchen cupboards. They also keep items from sliding around while traveling. If your fold your clothes & place them with folded edge up in the bins, you can stack a second layer on top. By doing this, you don't have to unstack clothes to get to items under the other clothes.

      I really prefer the outdoor shower, both my wife and I have extremely long hair so we pretty much just rinse off when needed but it keeps the moisture outside and with the shower in the rear of the van we just open the doors and use some magnets to hang a sheet for privacy and a small rubber pad to stand on and ALWAYS use environmentally safe soaps. LNT!

    So this is the 3rd van build that I've seen with a tankless hot water heater. How hot does it get there just under the bed? And the manufacturer says this unit isn't supposed to get above 2500 ft. Have you had this heater up in the mountains or high elevations to test this out? Great van build👍

    • @benjaminhawes4581
      @benjaminhawes4581 4 года назад +2

      Never really had any issues. I spent a few nights above 8,000 feet and had no issues or at least noticeable. Might just be a disclaimer for efficiency in general. I know using my butane stove backpacking is completely different from sea level to elevation. Still works but just less efficiently. I’ll monitor this and post any updates. Other question is not very. Definitely some warmth and I made a heat shield above it to disperse the heat a little bit when doing dishes or even showering it’s short bursts that the heater is running. If you ran it continuously for several minutes it could probably get pretty warm.

    The Camplux water heater has some major safety issues listed on Amazon reviews. Apparently two things happen:
    1. It stops working entirely.
    2. It does not heat above 90F so runs out quickly.
    3. The fittings leak so several people have reported fires and almost had explosions! This is really scary. Propane leaks and catches fire. Even after leak tests were done, and fittings retightened. They loosen with the vibration of van.
    Best to use a different brand.

    • @benjaminhawes4581
      @benjaminhawes4581 4 года назад +1

      I did switch brands but kept all my safety checks in place (explosive gas detector, shut shutoff solenoid that has to be activated to use, and I triple checked all fittings for leaks, and used sealant on the fittings) I think people were cranking on the fittings way too hard to "secure them" and over tightening could be a big issue that results in this but all of this can happen on any brand if improperly installed. I've checked out a few and they are all built exactly the same with a few minor tweaks.

    Really nice build out! I just bought a 2019 ProMaster 2500 and will be converting it with the help of my sons. I have a question, are you able to insure it as an RV/camper? My agent told me it could be insured as an RV once it's built out, but would have to be "very professionally done." My sons are professional carpenters so I know that part will be done well, but I'm curious about others experience on this. I'm hesitant to sink a lot of money into it if it will only be insured as I bought it. Thanks!

      Well yes but you only get an extra 6 or 8 inches and will cost you about 4 grand more for the van. Thats a lot of cheddar for so little.

    What tips do you have for protecting your van from rodents/mice & cocraches?

    • @benjaminhawes4581
      @benjaminhawes4581 4 года назад +1

      Clean! Constantly! Rumor has is that fabric softener sheets will deter rodents from nibbling on wires and such under the engine but I've never actually had any issues with any pests.

    I don't understand why base/lower cabinets on both sides are so deep. I could see one side deep enough to house oven and chest fridge and the other side narrower, allowing for more room to move around in the isle. Lots of leftover space around the toilet under there.

    • @benjaminhawes4581
      @benjaminhawes4581 4 года назад +1

      I left the space to TP, Trash Can, etc. Im not very thin but I can fit between the countertops without any problems and don't mind when my wife has to squeeze by ;)

    • @JasonKlunk
      @JasonKlunk  4 года назад

      What are you trying to do that in space? Makes more sense to have storage and places to put things rather than a few inches to dance around.

    How is the van heated?

    • @JasonKlunk
      @JasonKlunk  4 года назад +1

      He uses a Mr. Buddy for now. The oven heats up the space pretty quick too if it's needed. There's space to add something like a propex if it's a desire.

      @@JasonKlunk That's good to hear, I read somewhere that it's highly recommended to use the required oil the factory indicates, if you use some different weight it will mess up the engine. I take it that whatever the oil cap says is what's best to use.

    Reason why went gas over induction?

    • @benjaminhawes4581
      @benjaminhawes4581 4 года назад +1

      I cook constantly and really wanted an oven with enough space to cook in without having to worry about power. Propane can be refilled anywhere and because it runs my hot water too it just made sense to go all gas with the appliances. Plus I could expand to a propane heater someday but honestly just making a cup of tea on the oven is plenty to warm the van up for hours.

      @@JasonKlunk While a tidy van might help those that live in them, it's not always the case. My van is mostly bare as I am still building it. There is no food inside - nothing to attract vermin except the soy-based coating on the wires in the engine compartment. They've gnawed on them twice in the space of three weeks. I've started spraying a diluted solution of peppermint oil with a drop of dish-soap once a week. So far they've stayed away.
