Your work is excellent and your product choices are supreme, I just passed a long your West systems recommendation to a friend with a teakwood maintenance issue. PS love your videos and your detailed techniques you truly are a craftsman of the highest standard.. I know of what I say I too am a craftsman in the field of woodworking in mansions.
I'm refinishing a cockpit teak table top (three leaves) on my Hanse 415 sailing yacht and would like to follow the example of your excellent video. It is a solid flat surface. Q: What "spray" should I use for the same "satin" effect and what epoxy products (I assume you spray over the final coats of epoxy products)? The bottom of the leaves will not be visible; should I do those surfaces also? Also, since there are no "grooves," should I brush it on or use another method? Finally, there are no significant dents but many stains; what grade of sandpaper(s) do you recommend? Thanks!
Greetings, I found your video while searching for a method to finish the teak cockpit table on my boat. I thought "wow" before the boat owner said it. And indeed, WOW!! The finish is something I would like to duplicate. Three or 4 coats of West System, no problem. The ICA you mentioned in another reply is what type of finish? Were multiple coats applied with sanding between coats? Thanks for posting the video.
Thank you Bill, ICA comes in several types of finishes including gloss and satin. Always sand between coats or you will never be able to get the surface flat. Lots of fun and happiness on your project! Jim
After a few coats of epoxy, I used to go one spraying polyurethane varnish on top. I do that because of poly, s very good UV filter capability. Normally I use epifanes varnish. Is that bad in your view ?
Hello Esben! The way you described your technique is exactly the way we did this table. Not sure why that doesn’t come across in this video as I just had a phone conversation with a gentleman yesterday talking about exactly the same technique. I must have missed my mark explaining how we did this job. Too late now to do anything about it, guess I will have to make a new one. Best regards, Jim
Hello, I have a new teak table for the inside of my house, and the teak seems a bit dried out...should I put some teak oil before doing the epoxy like you did in the video? Awesome video btw, thank you very much
Hello ExWowas ! No don’t oil the teak, the epoxy will separate from the oil and never stick properly. Just sand it well and go through all all the grits until you end up with the perfect smoothness that you’re desiring and you will be good to go! Thanks for watching! Jim
Last I heard it was doing well. Vessel is in Europe now but table should have been recoated by now anyway because of the uv rays. It was a Italian product called EPS satin. Jim
I missed the part where it went from the shiny, ugly encapsulated looking epoxy like I am capable of, to satin beautiful final finish. And I watched closely. Oh well.
Not really, negativity towards somebody else’s effort is really not necessary. However I think you should just keep doing your thing as that’s what’s making you happy.

I admire your attention to detail, something I constantly strive towards as a carpenter, cheers
Thank you Paul,
I give it my all, every job every day. OCD I think it’s called, I don’t wish it one anyone.
Thank you

+Dan Reese Thank you for the kind comments as always, Dan. Make sure your friend uses the 207 hardener for his teak maintenance.

What were the “several spray coats.”
fantastic work
Thank you Sivre!!
How did you clean up the grooves so well without loosing shape? Hand sanding? Excellent end product.
Yes, made a v- block and attached self adhesive paper to it.
Thank you,
Jim

I presented my questions poorly; sorry for that. I see you are using West 207 hardener and 105 resin. What speed hardener?
beautiful finish...attention to detail...awesome! What product did you spray in satin to finish?
It was an ICA product made in Italy. If you would like more information you may email me and I will get you set up.

Nice job! I'm making a teak patio table for an outdoor deck. Would it be okay to just use a teak oil finish? Or is it better to use epoxy?
Teak oil is fine, make sure you keep up with the maintenance and apply it often. Thank you for watching!
Jim
@@YachtShopCreationswill having that type of epoxy coating bee less maintenance than an oil finish on the teak?

Any idea hows that finish is holding up? Would you mind sharing what you used for the matte finish coat?

@@YachtShopCreations Jim, thank you. At the expense of sounding stupid, any chance you can put a link to the EPS satin?

Protect your health. Wear gloves while gluing and applying finishes and a dust mask while sanding. ( Oh nevermind. You won't.)
Your right, I probably won’t, however I appreciate your kindness.
Really stupid intro
Thank you for your kindness!
