  • A sheered bleed screw stopped me from fully winterising it by running antifreeze through it, but I did get the oil and oil filter changed, and the fuel filter. The engine's looking rough in these videos because I have it covered in rust remover gel. Hopefully this will remove rust from the rust spots. Then I'll use some rust converter and then paint to keep it looking good.

Those flies get everywhere don't they? Don't bother with Yanmar oil filters at the prices they charge. Tthe one to use is WIX7171, from the usual site and from the car parts people, not chandlers, who charge double for the same filter. Always best to replace the engine anode whilst you can access the plate which is normally obscured by the alternator as you know. and if you need an alternator drive belt, again, use the car parts guys (Gates Dayco), half the price of the chandlers for the exact same one! Happy sailing. Geoff

Hi how does one run antifreeze through the system? Does it have to gravity fed or ir there enough suction from impeller and also do you just cold run without water until thermostat opens or do you run it with water flowing through then switch to antifreeze after thermostat opens?

The impeller is good enough to lift the water from a bucket. I run cold through until the thermostat opens, then switch to antifreeze. Good luck!

I've fitted a new bleed screw and got some antifreeze around the head now too so it's happily ready for the winter - and running nicely ready for a return to Plymouth when I've finished all the overwinter jobs I have on my list. It's quite a list though. New rubbing strake & new cockpit locker hatches are in progress at the moment.
Can't WAIT for next spring though! Hopefully it will all be ready for easter rather than me spending all easter in the boat yard again!!!!

She was sat near Port Navas for a while. I think they probably found a home while she was sat there... end of summer & they must have found a nice warm spot to hide in my sail!

They could be cluster flies. en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cluster_fly
