  • The 2 front oil pipes on the Yanmar 1GM and 1GM10 are prone to failure due to rust. This is a How to Demo showing an upgrade by fitting non rusting cupra nickel oil pipes.

Thanks, I’m no longer panicking about having rusty oil pipes

I replaced the copper washers with doughty washers. That’s what we call them in UK. Stainless washer with a rubber lip. Great sealing properties and they stay on the bolt instead of falling off into the bilges

Dont forget there is another, longer, oil pipe at the gearbox end of the engine between the sump and cylinder head. This is also available for replacement in cupra nickel.

Yes a good overview of pipe replacement but if on a Shrimper 19 with limited access there needs to be a few more items to remove from the engine before you can even get access to the two banjo unions, ie removing the oil filter and alternator belt, plus the sea water bottom hose to the impeller. Maybe I should do a video myself !! but this is a good start point video.

Very nice video. My 1GM10 (front) oil pipes are getting rusty, due to a leaking water pump seal (sim rings)

So happy to find this video since I'm about to replace the long pipe on my engine and was not sure about hole line up which you explained perfectly. One question I have is what can I expect for oil seepage since my engine is in place and full of oil?

When changing the pipes either the long or the short, it is not necessary to drain the engine oil as very little oil actually comes out. The only oil that comes out is that which is heldi in the pipe itself. So either a medium size rag under the lower fitting or a small tub would more than suffice to catch any oil that comes out when removing the fittings. Thanks for asking.

Did I miss something? Where does one buy these oil lines? I checked eBay and didn’t find them.
