- "Happy Haydn" composed his divertimenti for the purpose of entertainment & as developmental exercises for his students. A 'divertimento' is defined as an instrumental work of lighter character. Some call them 'sonatas' because all have three movements with the 1st & 3rd in sonata form. In Haydn's time the piano had not yet been perfected so his keyboard compositions were designed for the harpsichord. That makes them easily transcribable for free-bass accordion. Technically, they're not very difficult & that's why I chose this one so as not to overwork my injured left hand. I actually find that wearing some sort of cushioning device like a modified tube sock on my bass hand eases the pressure & helps the hand slide up & down the button keyboard much more easily. If you look closely, you'll see I'm wearing one for this video. This elegant little piece is at a grade 7 level but as my hand improves I will be taking on more advanced pieces.
Excellent job, Paul! Haydn sounds great on free-bass accordion
Thanks Richard, I'm glad you liked it! We hear so much Bach & Scarlatti that Haydn is a refreshing contrast. Many music critics rank him in the Top Five greatest of all time.
Espectacular
You are a really great accordionist and musician, following the path of great teachers of this holly instrument and being one of them.
