God bless her. She had her ups and downs, but when she was in a good place there was absolutely no one better.

An amazing performance of the song but this is an alternate take that wasn't used in the film. The final rendition in A Star is Born has a darker color palette and more immersive setting with the musicians surrounding Judy which lends a more intimate feeling to the song.
It's a great movie but a word of warning before you watch it. After its initial release the studio pulled it back and cut out several segments to enable more showings a day which were then thought to be lost. In the 80's an archivist named Ronald Haver restored it as much as possible but several sequences were in fact lost and he reconstructed them with photographs of the scenes, though the entire soundtrack is intact. It's distracting at first but much less so if you know it's coming and it doesn't last too long and those restored scenes add much to the story. Judy is astonishing in the film, she was nominated for an Oscar though Grace Kelly won.

The film directors made the right decision to reshoot this scene because this decor & lighting & costuming makes it look like a Lawrence Welk episode

Judy was 4'11" but sounded three times that size. When she sang at two it wasn't long before she earned the nickname "leather lungs." I wish life had been kinder to her; most importantly, I wish she had been kinder to herself.

this is from the original "A Star is Born" movie. She is the greatest entertainer of the 20th century! She is Dorothy from The Wizard of Oz and then dozens of other movies. She is one of the original triple threats, singer/dancer/actor. Dive in to this great artist!

This song is from the 1954 version of A Star Is Born. One of her best songs and a phenomenal personal performance in the movie. When you get a chance, I highly recommend watching the movie.

This is the full-throated Judy that she developed on the concert circuit after being unceremoniously dumped by MGM. This version, of the performance of the track, which a few were shot, was not used in the movie, A Star Is Born, but the vocal track remains the same throughout. There are a couple books out on the making and restoration of this movie which sparked the era of film restoration. It was badly butchered on first release. Judy is my favorite of all time. I was only one year old when she died and I am still a fan after all these years. New recordings of her performances still are getting released to the public fifty years on after her death and this year will mark what would have been her one hundredth birthday.

I’ve watched her sing this literally hundreds of times and I’m still covered in goosebumps every time I watch/listen to her sing it. She was the greatest of all time and will always be relevant and never ever forgotten. She was an astonishing talent.

The version used in the film is darker and more intimate, But this version shows Judy as part of the band , which is more realistic to who she was.

Look at the comments right above my comment in The Description. It's from the 1954 version of "A Star is Born" starring Judy Garland. American Film Institute rated it the 11th greatest song in American cinema history.

As everyone has said this was the second remake of A Star is Born at this time. Unfortunately, Warner Bros. hacked about 30-ish minutes off Judy’s version after deeming it too long. The original cut got great reviews, but almost no one saw it outside of major cities. The current restored version is still an amazing watch, but some of the footage has been lost forever. Probably my favorite Judy movie. Lots of info about the making of this movie and what happened after the studio got involved if you’re interested 🖤

They filmed this scene 4 times with different outfits for her to wear, different lighting and movements by her.
The song was pre-recorded so sounds exactly the same.
I find it interesting you chose this performance which was not chosen to be in the movie.
I also think they made the right choice with the blue dress and an amazing floor presence.

Judy was a great singer, no doubt. But to me her greatest quality was her willingness to give you everything of herself, to commit herself to the lyric and the vocals. Of not shortchanging the audience. That willingness to sell out to the audience is rare today. Singers of her era came up performing without microphones. They had to project their voices over the band so that the audience in the back of the room could hear the lyric. Far different from today where singers don't even have to know how to sing, nonetheless know how to perform before an audience. Although Billie Holiday was really the first real diva of American music, Judy was soon after her though, with her own style. But both gave of themselves to the audience and the lyric.

I propose there are--so far--FIVE versions of "A Star Is Born" (if you don't get stuck on titles). Judy's is actually the THIRD remake, though it was the first musical version. But prior to it was 1937's "A Star Is Born" starring Janet Gaynor and Frederick March. It was not a musical. And prior to THAT was 1934"s "What Price Hollywood?" starring Constance Bennett and Lowell Sherman. The plot of "What Price..." is the same as the other four--young rising star is discovered by falling, burnt out star. Complications ensue, including some common ones: ruined performances, disrupted award ceremonies, and ...well... no spoilers. There's even a "I just want to take one more look" moment. Noticeably different in "What Price Hollywood?" is the March/Mason/Kristofferson/Cooper role is split in half between a husband who's jealous of her stardom and never getting any attention himself, and it's the producer who discovered her that has the alcohol problem and stumbles around ruining opening nights, award ceremonies, etc. The scripts are so similar executives at RKO studios considered suing Selznick International Pictures for plagarism. So, there ya go: FIVE versions of the story. One with a different title. (Disclaimer: I did not see Gaga and Cooper's version. So I admit that I may be wrong to assume that the core plot of that version is the same as the previous four.)

All of the comments below are pretty much accurate. I just want to draw attention to Garland’s ability to lip-synch her pre-recorded song and act out the lyrics in whatever setting the director finally decides on.
Matching your lips and expressions to a pre-recorded track is in itself an art form. Just ask Barbra Streisand, who notoriously struggles with that aspect of her film performances.

She was nominated for best picture, but Grace Kelly won.
Watch Renee Zellwegger play her, in "Judy". She won Best Actress.
Judy's life and death was tragic. Died at 47 of a drug overdose.
