This just gave me a new respect for Michael Sheen - not as an actor, but as a person. Spot on, Michael. Thank you so much.
I lost one of my female teachers to her common law husband in a domestic dispute when I was in my teens, and it left their two children without their mother. Another known relative was a lady of the night and was murdered. I have seen this and with the relative I only learned after the fact that she was murdered.
If the hubby and I fight, I'm one of the lucky ones, he leaves to cool down and has never raised a hand to me or our child. He's hit a wall or door before on the way out to leaving...but never me.
Wondering why he's talking out about this though....but thank you for all you said Michael.
Too often this is the case: victim blaming, etc. Look at the perps not the victim...that is the message!!!!

Well done Michael for shedding a light on a subject that is so often hidden!
There are movements in New Zealand that put the onus on the men. One is called 'She's Not Your Rehab'. Really says it all.
All nations need to have these conversations 🙂

I really wish this was something that society took in and believed in. Thank you for this! This really moved me.
Dv is always put on women to figure out and if they don't then something must be wrong with them.
The point about the wording was so well explained, so that you can really feel the impact that words are having in really direct ways.

Violence, when used, isn't the answer that should be consider. Many women and girls (even some men and boys) are crushed and lost their purpose to live. I applaud Michael's speech. Spot on. Thank you for saying and stating to tell the gospel truth. I hope domestic abuse will end 💙❤️🤟
    Edit:
Victim blaming is so evil yet is still evident in today's world 😞

When a woman has given their love and trust to a man she doesn't expect to be hurt, beaten, belittled, raped and shamed by him. Abuse starts small. It starts with a little joke at how she looks or maybe it something innocuous. It builds little by little from there. Taking away the women's debit cards, you know for safe keeping. After all your a bit clumsy!
Clumsy, accident prone. That's what she says to her friends and family after the first hit. Everyday the fear mounts up. She tries so hard to please him. She would do anything. Slowly she abandons her friends one by one because HE has decided that HE doesn't like them. Last of all her family, her mother. Yet still the hits keep raining down.
After so long maybe just maybe something will give her the strength to leave. It could be a moment of clarity, the police or she see that HE is now turning his vile fists on her child. They manage to get out.
Now you'd think this was the end of the story, but it isn't. At this point women can be so conditioned they go back. Or they stay strong, but the physical wounds heal yet the mental scars remain.
I'm 12 yrs free of my abusive Ex husband I still have panic attacks and nightmares. Each day I try my best. Its easier now I know it wasn't my fault.
    Thank you.
