    Normal phone Li-ion batteries degrade to around 50% of initial capacity in 4 to 5 yrs. This is an inherent problem that gets worse based on charging speed, intervals etc. As long as battery is covered by warranty it should be OK.
    Battery swapping is another angle that some companies take. But here the valid concern for ppl is if you're giving away a healthier battery for a degraded one. Wish companies come up with more transparent ways to communicate battery details during swaps, replacement and maintenance times.

    This time is not ideal to buy ev vehicle . First of all it is not complete green form of energy . If any problem occurs in ev car , then we have to replace the battery worth Rs.6- 8 lacs definitely after 8 years. For this we can spend for fuel in ic engines

    Concern about the lithium Ion batter is real. A battery in Pure eV e-pluto costs 49000/, and the price of the vehicle is 96k. In a car of such a size battery, the cost will be much more. I was even worried before I went to book an ertiga vxi smart hybrid with an extra lithium ion battery and its warranty and replacement cost after warranty.

    In US & Canada semi truck owners (middle class not the rich ones) prefers old trucks (2006 & before manufacturered) just to escape from emission related issues. Anti pollution parts like DEF cost high & less reliable. They have to pay for those parts in order to pass the emission test. Economicaly they prefer rebuilding the old truck over owning a new ones because of the complex emission control systems.
    There's some demand for old trucks.
    So it is better to keep the old cars, despite of make. Some day it's value gonna appreciate like 2 stroke bikes.

    I work as a design engineer in an EV start up.
    I appreciate your podcast
    In Tata Nexon the motor is also imported from China.
    Even if we are able to manufacture motor in India , magnets have to be imported from China.
    Battery cells are completely imported from China. Because raw material for magnet and lithium are only found in China.
    So without Chinese imports EV can't be manufactured by any country.
    Unfortunately Battery + motor constitutes 70% of vehicle cost.
    And extraction of lithium is highly polluting activity.
    As said by asif, if you have already an IC engine car go for EV ( for daily commute) otherwise don't buy EV as your first car.

    Individual cost will be more because over head and other associated costs while assembly in plant as a whole is very low the same can't be replicated for a single car in the workshop hence the inflated bill. I remember seeing a thread in team bhp for a Nissan CVT after accident the estimate was more than the Ex showroom price.

    The price of battery pack is high mainly because of the monopoly of china in the battery manufacturing for the usage of ev cars. When importing batteries to work in cars we are making car companies are paying a big price on it. Also after purchasing batteries the integration of battery pack and satisfying all safety standards also is taking up the cost of replacement. If it's is locally manufactured then cost would come down heavily

    As of now, I personally believe Toyota Hybrid vehicles are recommended than pure EVs and they have proven globally with their technology. Yes, there's a hypothetical question what's the life of the battery pack in hybrids considering the warranty period but atleast the vehicle can be run with the combustion engine in case of battery issues. EVs are better recommended for people planning to buy another car for city usage.

  • @senthilmurugan8956
    @senthilmurugan8956 Год назад +2

    The emissions impact of electric vehicles is much lower than petrol or diesel vehicles. From an efficiency perspective, electric vehicles can covert around 60% of the electrical energy from the grid to power the wheels, but petrol or diesel cars can only convert 17%-21% of the energy stored in the fuel to the wheels. That is a waste of around 80%. Fully electric vehicles have zero tailpipe emissions, but even when electricity production is taken into account, petrol or diesel vehicles emit almost 3 times more carbon dioxide than the average EV. To reduce the impact of charging electric vehicles, India is ambitious to achieve about 40 percent cumulative electric power installed capacity from non-fossil fuel-based energy resources by the year 2030. Therefore, electric vehicles are the way forward for Indian transport, and we must switch to them now

      Are thermal power plants running at 100% efficient? May be 20 to 25% efficient. Batteries are not equivalent to engine in the car. They are just like fuel tanks. If there is no fossil fuel, just go for alternative plant based fuel.

    A turbo diesel + 6 speed gear box is much better combination where we can achieve both power and mileage
    in fact Honda city diesel performs better than Honda city e hev in terms of mileage
    unfortunately we are lost a lot of gems and still going to loss in upcoming days
    11:50 to 13:50 takes me back to the good old days !

    General question Asir bro - why Tata motors is not using Jaguar and Landrover's technologies to improve its cars?

    • @stegoshen
      @stegoshen Год назад +1

      They are using designers from JLR for car body. However engine and other technologies can’t be helped by JLR people, they are used to working in bigger engines.
      Even Toyota couldn’t get strong hold on small engines, that’s why they planned for JV with Suzuki.
      Tata’s biggest advantage is Build quality, they really need good engines and transmission at this point.

    Calculating purchase, fuel and maintenance cost, ICE Cars are still far better. EVs are not worth the money at this point. The fuel cost saved by purchasing EV will be spent on battery after 8 years. Either replace the battery or scrap the vehicle.

      That is their target. Already Japan variant got mild hybrid. Slowly they’ll make entire lineup hybrid.

    Too long without proper information. Please talk upto the point. First of all talking about 5 to 7 lakhs for changing battery or any other services are all stupid ideas for a 4 wheeler having a total life of 7 to 10 years. After 2 years if you want change your car there will be no buyer.
    Ev idea came into the world to save public from using fuel. But now things are reversed.
    Don't buy Ev vehicles. Hope government doesn't impose ban on ic engines by 2030. There should be extension till R&D is ready with effective EV vehicles
