  • I travelled interstate to go underwater metal detecting with Ed (‪@detect-ed‬ /‪@TreasureAdventure‬) and ‪@Kurtleman‬ using my BLU3 Nemo and the XP Deus II metal detector! With multiple finds well over 100 years old - and all three of us finding MULTIPLE gold on the day thanks to favourable conditions - this was another special day of diving that I'll never forget.

      The good news is that you don’t need thousands of dollars of gear, or even a detector to start with this sort of hunting - grab a snorkel and start looking for areas like in my other recent underwater hunt video (loose rocks on bedrock), you can simply move the rocks to see what’s on the bedrock underneath. It was great to watch Ed at work, he has years more water experience than I do. I love the Legend for grab-and-go at the beach but the Deus 2 is a brilliant machine, a steeper learning curve than most but the default modes will definitely get results. There’s lots of different ways to package it these days but I recommend getting the remote version and also the bone conduction headphones for underwater use (SO much clearer than waterproof ear cup headsets!). 9” or 11” coil will come down to personal preference - I enjoy the 9 for what I do. Thank you! This particular dive averaged 1-2M (3-7ft) depth, so not too deep. Most folks will lose their items in the first few metres of water, however if there's been significant coastal erosion or tidal movement they might spread further. Headphones - yes, absolutely, most external detector speakers aren't designed to transmit well underwater, the water pressure prevents the speaker from operating to it's full potential. The Deus II has bone conduction earphones which are quite amazing underwater. Cheers :)

    Great tip with the ring carabiner. I am thinking of buying the Nokia Pulse Dive, and the Nemo BLU3 for under water detecting, or do you think a more serious detector is required?

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  Год назад

      Thanks Mark! Ooh, sounds like you're in for a bit of fun! The PulseDive is a serious detector, but bear in mind it will give one tone for any type of metal - you won't know iron from non-ferrous metal. However... it's a LOT easier to manage in conjunction with a Nemo. I would say if you're hunting an area with obvious bedrock or where the targets likely won't be super deep, a PulseDive will do the job.
      A full size detector will have more audio information and punch deeper but you're going to be dealing with more weight, and more cables, therefore more risk as a diver. Perhaps start with the PulseDive, see how you go, and if you end up with a full detector then the PulseDive can serve as a pinpointer (the pinpointer head is included in the 2-in-1 kit, or you can buy it separately later on as a modular piece!). In my video description, click on @TreasureAdventure or @thekurtleman to check out their channels for some PulseDive inspiration. Cheers!

      Hi David! Great question - I’m not familiar with the typical conditions of the area, but the general population plays a big part - it was a highly frequented beach in an area that has been populated for well over a century, so there’s simply more opportunities for items to go missing. The boys did note that the underwater erosion was particularly good that day and that it was also not typically that calm. Last of all, luck is always a factor when it’s not a recovery mission - we just happened to swing over the right spots at the right time. 😊 Cheers!!

    • @DirtFishMish
      @DirtFishMish  10 месяцев назад

      I'm using the XP bone conduction headphones underwater, and they are really great for that purpose though I do wish they had a spiralised cable so it didn't hang so loosely while diving. Volume and pitch is adjustable on the machine, so people would be able to adjust them for land use (I prefer a wireless and more immersive headset when on land for comfort). :)

      Hi there Andy, if you could please let me know what has you concerned in particular I’d really appreciate it! I started out on RUclips a few years ago, mid-pandemic, as metal detecting was my mental health activity and I wanted to share the joy and peace it brought me with others. I typically detect rural and remote areas - it is only recently that I’ve had the luxury of travelling to detect places I never previously would’ve had the chance to visit, this area easily had 100+ years more history than anywhere I could detect back home.
      I’ve done my best over the years to share stories of responsible detecting, leaving places cleaner than when I arrived, removing rubbish, respecting the privacy of others and also showing the realities of the hobby as I go. A couple of videos ago I came home with $3.50 or so and a handful of trash. 😊
      Anyhow, no hard feelings from me as I’m too old to worry about chasing any clout, I’m happy enough if the adventures I share bring smiles to people’s faces and I’m so proud of the wonderful community of detectorists I have here. I hope you have a lovely weekend. Happy hunting 😊

      @@DirtFishMish The simple fact is that youtube clout chasing inspires hoards of new chums intothe fields and they are absolutely destroying our abiltiy to have legal access to said areas . And this is why I try to make a point of regularly mentioning filling in holes, taking all trash and respecting the environment - as well as ensuring one is detecting in permitted areas to do so. There is absolutely a responsibility when on social media to model such behaviours for those picking up prospecting / detecting as a hobby. I actually completely agree with you that some can demonstrate really poor examples leading to horrendous and disrespectful behaviour, and I feel in this case you may have picked the wrong person to target with such frustrations.
      Speaking of prospecting, if you are coming to the prospector’s expo in Bendigo this month I’d be more than happy to hear your concerns there. 😊
      All the best for your adventures.

I also dont understand why you would want to increase traffic on the fields for yourself and others other than the reason i mentioned, and no , having been in the business of detecting in a number areas for years i dont hang around those places. You've heard my concerns your life is your own , enjoy the clout while the stars are in your eyes.

      @@andysparks1973 thanks for the respectful discussion on the topic, I really do appreciate that you are taking the time to respond. 😊 It is always a double-edged sword - I value privacy and solitude when out on the fields as well, but I also know that the hobby had a profound positive effect on my mental health and if I can bring others back from a place of darkness then that’s a win for me. People will be attracted to the hobby in all manner of ways - the announcement of the lucky strike nugget will have far more of an impact than my small channel.
      As far as ‘clout’ goes (I dislike that word immensely!), I’ve never really pushed for followers or even asked people to subscribe much at all, it has grown organically over the years that I have been taking people on my journeys. I’m knocking on the door of my 40’s now so I’m simply happy to be able to pay the bills, put food on the table for my family and it so happens that sharing my real adventures does just that.
      Thank you again for a respectful chat, you seem a reasonable bloke yourself. Health and happiness to you. 😊
