Deadpool's genre awareness protects him. He's never killed anybody real: he's only ever killed fictional characters, and he knows it.
his continuous breakage of the 4th wall turned him into a gag character
only version of him i respect is old deadpool in the future where he had those two daughters
@Mikeyboi1225 For you to be alive?
@Mikeyboi1225 i asked
@@rafaelgongrubatatta907 XD that is not Old Deadpool
@Mikeyboi1225 yeah how dare they share their opinion on comics here in the comments section of a comics video?
Captain Marvel being immune to the penance stare, that's pure plot armor
Maybe the mcu marvel, but not the comic captain marvel. Has shown with Thanos, two vastly different characters.
Facts
Ah, you’re one of those.
I don't understand. Capt Marvel is perfect. There's absolutely no flaws, no regrets, no sins to be forgiven for. Of COURSE the penance stare didn't work.
😂
Which makes her a poor poor character which no one likes...obviously. She is just the embodiment of sexism.
Read more comics, buddy. 🙄
There was a story where it didn't work on the punisher because he's never killed an innocent (in that story anyways) and ghost rider just left the fight, I thought that was a pretty cool one
I wonder if it would work on Doctor Doom (The Panther God looked into his soul and judged him worthy because he genuinely believed in what he was doing .)..
@@matthewschwartz6607 it wouldn’t
Well the Ghost Rider avenges only the innocents. I doubt Frank Castle has killed many of them.
It was. It was kinda like when he went up against world breaker hulk and decided that hulk was the victim and deserved vengeance. I also enjoyed when he gave the stare to venom and at first he was like this fire doesn't burn...10 seconds later the worse pain venom has ever experienced.
Not a chance with doom bro 😎
One time when deadpool had the penance stare used on him he said "Where's the bit with the falafel cart?, that was the best bit" implying that instead of punishment he gets a highlight reel of his deeds
Gotta love Deadpool lol
I love the time where he said is deadpoolin’ time. I clapped.
lmao a highlight reel 😂
I was always under the impression that the penance stare was only effective if you felt guilt for your crimes.
It does. That’s why it didn’t work on thanos because he felt no guilt for the lives he took as he thought he was truly doing a noble and just thing
It works on Galactus and it wouldn't very useful on the evil creatures he usually hunts down if it worked only with the guilty.
Which is why DP is immune
This is *sometimes* true. It's not a hard and fast rule in all continuities, but it is true in some continuities. Which makes it a *little* awkward.
Yeah, Deadpool actually laughs and says something along the lines of "thanks for the action reel of my best moments"
Guess no Penance stare on demons. It’s like showing them their greatest hits. 😅
😂😂 bro....
It actually works. And even more in angels. Read the comics, bro.
When the red hulk was ghost rider, he used the penance stare on Black heart, and it actually made him stronger
@@alejandroarc321 depends on the continuity. If you’re reading an author who believes the victim of the penance stare must feel guilty about their crimes, then it would not work on demons. If you are reading an author who doesn’t take into consideration if the victim feels guilt or not, that’s when you’ve seen it work on demons. It’s all about who’s writing 🤷♂️
@@referenceking8848 one of the only consistent things about the Ghost Rider is how inconsistent they are as characters.
thanos isn't affected by the stare but penance is another thing
Penance isn't an ability, its Ghost Rider unleashing his world breaking power
Wow ok boys
Bruh there is a comic thanos was killed just by the stare of the ghost rider
@@siddgaminggo7605 In that comic, the Cosmic Ghost Rider tells Thanos it is time for penance.
Thanos reminds the Cosmic Ghost Rider that he is immune to his *penance stare.*
To which Frank replies something along the lines of "Who said anything about a stare? I said Penance"
And then he unleashes his power and kills Thanos. It wasn't a penance *stare.*
It was *Penance.*
It's either a different ability from the Stare, or an upgrade of the Stare to the nth level. It's not about the eye contact in this case, or about making you feel regret. It is pure, divine punishment delivered.
@@xhexzander ooo thx for that information 😊
Madcap felt the effects of the Stare, but he liked it because it was the first thing he had felt since the accident that gave him his powers.
Venom was driven insane from being worn by Deadpool, so he's protected by the same warped mental state in addition to being an alien organism that has a different view on its own actions and thoughts
Lol, this was retconned years ago and was only a thing for a couple months.
Spidey is once again the first person to wear the symbiote
If you go by the whole "it works unless you have a specific type of personality" thing then it makes sense that he tried to use it on carnage even after it failed on venom.
I enjoyed when he gave the stare to venom and at first he was like this fire doesn't burn...10 seconds later the worse pain venom has ever experienced.
While the stare doesn’t hurt everyone ghost rider can still beat them without it
Yeah that's something I see a lot of people forget about
I mean that’s what evenyone says now and days that stare carry’s him a lot
And I still don’t think that he can beat that many people live action like I just physically can’t see it…he’s just not that good
For the symbiotes the only thing that makes any sense is that they were created the the elder god null.
So they should have some sort of divine protection thanks to that.
Well, Conan makes sense to me. In addition to having no conception of Ghost Rider's idea of heaven, hell, sins, penance and punishment, he's as stubborn as he's not the brightest dude. It'd kind of be like when zombies let Homer Simpson go because they wanted to eat brains.
Conan the barbarian is incredibly intelligent. dude speaks and writes every known language.
@@wittyjoker4631 Speaking and writing languages is not that hard. its call alclamation and adaptation. He doenst really speak latin anymore does he? Yk how many people are trilingual and poor? Yk how many people are bi lingual and dumber then rocks.
Your not a genius because you can say words and read them. Not saying its not hard for people but still.
its complex and works the brain out but only when you apply it that way. Conan only speaks every language because thats mandatory for survival he doesnt think about thinking. He just does.
@@nyxx7813 speaking poorly a couple of languages is not impressive. Being born and learning two languages at birth is not impressive. Being a traveler and learning every language you come across fluently reading and writing it. Being able to speak and right well in a single language is impressive. You use an extreme set piece argument that is flimsy.
I makes sense for the penance stare not to work on people with firm conviction or without doubts. The stare works on guilt, and if the subject overcomes it then the stare has nothing to work on. Such is the nature of psychological attacks.
It doesn’t work on guilt, Danny Ketch used it on a unrepentant rapist and later a child serial killer.
Hmm.... i seem to remember Ghost Rider using penance stare on Carnarge, BUT, instead Carnage burst in to laughter because he´s an actual psyco and all that pain caused him pleasure.... "You just reminded me how much i enjoy carnage"
Would Nightcrawler not be effected by it on account of that time he sold his soul to stop his dad? And/or because of his character (merit/life)
Yeah he is kind of exceptionally good in the comics, I agree
Nightcrawler likely would have divine protection. Cause the stare would see red because the blood of Jesus.
@@slibertas1996 rlly?
@@eghoseisiramen1892 Nightcrawler is very religious
I can see why it won't work on the Punisher. The guy kills sinners not regular people. Blackheart is a demon.
It does work on Punisher. Deadpool used an angel feather on Frank beforehand which is divine protection. We are shown later it works on Frank just fine
Yeah crom is all about strength and power. The only thing Conan would ever regret would be if he chose not to split an enemies head with an axe. Every other enemy he fought in battle would be a great source of pride, and honour to his god even if his god doesn't really care.
And if he does not listen, TO HELL WITH HIM!
😊
It actually makes sense the penance stare would not work on Conan because he has no regrets and is righteous. Solomon Kane is another character created by Robert E. Howard the penance stare would not work on for similar reasons plus his goal is to vanquish evil.
Blackheart died from the Penance Stare after absorbing all 1,000 souls in that Old West town in the Ghost Rider movie
Thanos and Deadpool, ultron
Yes in the movie who are not revelant.
Yeah that doesn’t really count
That movie is trash.
Not in the comics though, right?
Sin isn't defined by perspective. If it doesn't work on people who don't regret their actions than it would be useless...it'd only work on good people or at least those who are redeemable.
I agree they shouldnt be defines by perspective, yet sins are rules humanity made at some point and they are no actual laws of physics, so we can get around them and do what we want as people has always done :/
@@9PUPPE this comment can be used on a deeper level. I appreciate it so much
Id say Conan was immune because Cimmerians are kinda like Orks from 40k, the power if belief is super strong in them
Could it be that the many voices in Deadpool’s head affect the Penance Stare, because GW can’t focus on multiple souls
I remember from somewhere its because Deadpool is always on guilt trip, so its not the case of it didn't works, its always ON.
But of course captain marvel is immune to ghost riders powers and anything inconvenient in marvel universe . A truly brave and stunning character 10/10 amazing writing
Cope harder lol.
Hahaha
Yes captain Mary Sue is so well written...
I love the channel it is great. Can you guys do a top ten Halloween heroes or villains lists?
Does the penance stare work on Daredevil?
🤣🤣🤣
@@TZM676 🤣🤣🤣
no, because he's blind
💀
Good one 👍👍
Silver Surfer’s soul is connected to the universe, which means he does not have a soul, so the penance state does not work on him either.
Umm then why did it work on me
- Galactus
@@akale2620 it didn't.
@@giornikitop5373 wtf? It's literally what happened.
@@akale2620 it's impossible to happen. galactus does not have a soul. like the celestials and other, he is a being made of energy and what he does is part of the balance for the universe. tell me you are not talking about the cartoon...
@@giornikitop5373 everything is cannon
I know that the comics deviate alot about the rules regarding the Penance Stare, but lets be honest here, everyone knows that the only 2 things that should protect you from the Penance Stare is divine protection on your soul, or having no soul at all. That's it.
I remember hulk being immune during WWH because he was deemed “innocent” for his recent destruction because it was the Illuminati that killed his family in Sakaar. Or he thought they did
He wasn’t immune. Ghost Rider just let him off bc he agreed with Hulk’s form of justice/vengeance
Maybe it is because Hulk's powers come from The One Below All itself 🤔
He wasn’t immune Zarathos just left after taking control because he saw Hulk as in the right with what he was doing.
I knew Frank was going to show up on this list. 😂🤣 Great content man.
So the penance stare wouldn't work on someone like the Joker because he's a mass murderer who loves killing and doesn't care about who he kills.
Depends on the version of stare. One attacks with the victims guilt, the other with the pain they have caused
@@jayymorris5285 What I'm about to say has nothing to do with the penance stare but one time Raven of the Titans got into the Joker's head and made him think he was in Hell surrounded by Demons and all the Joker did was laugh insanely so if that alone wasn't enough to scare him than nothing is.
If the Joker doesn’t have plot armor and the Rider is actually consistent then yes it would work.
@@thomasraines1396 I don't think so because he's never had any regrets about killing, torturing, or hurting anyone in the past.
@@kimbelsimpson7535 the “regretting your sins” nonsense not only ruins what the Riders’ are conceptually but it’s been used on unrepentant people before (when Danny Ketch used it) and it worked. So yes it would work on the Joker if the Rider was written well and the Joker didn’t have plot armor.
The "Heaven and Hell doesn't matter to Connan" theory made me wonder
Does the stare work on atheists?
Because if it doesn't, it wouldn't work on Colossus ether.
An interesting video would be "Characters the penance stare shouldn't work on" or something like that
Would it work on Magik? She has regrets but she's also a Hell Lord, and her soul is kinda screwed up thanks to Belasco. Does that change things? (And there was that time when she didn't have a soul at all)
Yes, it works agai st atheists. There was a president that dien't believe in Hell, Heaven or even God and Ketch burned him with the stare.
Hell lords can be affected if they have a soul as we saw with Blackheart in the classics when he used to own a soul. So Magik, Belasco, etc. Would be affected with the stare.
@@alejandroarc321 Thanks! Never knew much about Ghost Rider, I mostly read X-Men, so after this I had questions haha
I didn't know Colossus was an atheist, the more you learn lol
These drops have been interesting. My man rigtchea always has solid drops. Very captivating.
Punisher has been slightly affected pretty recently. In the world war frank, he gets ghost rider to help him assault kingpin's tower and as payment ghost rider gets to penance stare him.
What about Thor or is it different because he could resist his soul being taken by a godly being because his soul was to pure wouldn’t that still work for Ghost Roder’s pendant stare.
That's the thing about comic characters, their abilities are either buffed or nerfed depending on each writer and for the sake of the plot
I’m so glad Amanda McKnight is back. These dudes were killing me!
YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT!!!
Unfortunately, she isn't back in this video.
I wasn't aware she left lmfao
Awesome
When the stare works? When the writer want it.
The only people who have *any* reason to be immune the penance stare are Deadpool and Squirrel Girl. That's basically it.
It shouldn't matter if they are repentant or not. It's like a mirror. Deadpool has 4th wall breaking plot armor and Squirrel Girl never loses. That's the only thing that should be immune.
When you give op powers to someone, it's hard to work around it bro
If you think about it, Penance Stare is hella op
In Ghost Rider Vol 6 #12, Ghost Rider tries to use it on the Hulk, to no effect. Hulk's soul "is still pure"
Not actually
Probably just too angry to gaf
That was a cool comics book
That was really good
The symbiote being immune makes sense if they have a hive mind like the movies state, I haven't read the comics to know if that is canon in the comics...if it is canon, then it would be too many minds to try to go through so the writers would have to say that ALL the symbiotes got hit with the stare, or it just wouldn't work
That was pretty neat. Conan was a surprise lol but yeah you know Conan dont regret nothing
I feel like Marvel just nerfed Ghost Rider’s abilities by a lot because they don’t even know what to do for the character
I like it better that Punisher is immured to it because it inflicts the pain and suffering they inflicted on the INNOCENT onto the person and Punisher has never harmed a INNOCENT person.
it's fun to say that it doesn't work because they do not have regrets but what would be a power move is to say that it completely works on someone who definitely has inflicted pain on a lot of people but the person it is used on is simply so much stronger than the collective existence of everyone he inflicted pain upon that it isn't even that impressive of a pain. just imagin what a move it would be to say "these feeble beings couldn't even survive pain to a degree where i would feel it"
The ghost riders being Immune to it makes sense as they have divine protection.
The penance stare is one of the most deadly moves in marvel
When it works.
The penance stare does whatever it needs to do at the time, other wise it’s one of the most inconsistent powers in comics!
Red-Hulk + Ghost Rider + Venom, gives me Black Panther/Predator vibes.
It has worked on thanos before its mainly that people can't write ghost rider without messing up the established stuff before
I dont know if this was a thing in the comics the way it is in the recent live action solo films but if Venom/ all symbiotes have a hive mind of memories that span the multiverse then that means using the stare on venom would try counting up all deeds across all symbiotes across all universes and trying to unleash them all at once on venom which surely would just backfire and overload GhostRider. Plus at that point im sure venom wouldnt care of his deeds given how many deaths that would be, definitely far past trillions. Especially if counting symbiotes who have killed entire planets other than Earth.
Deacon is a servant of an angel, so it's likely that angelic power cancels out demonic power
None of the spirits are demons.
Deathlock, Marvel's answer to Cyborg, is immune to the penance stare because he's a golden child.
I can explain Conan like John wick he is a man of focus of true will power love being the only thing that can overcome will power as it rewrites logic Conan is beyond focused and willing allowing the stare to basically hit air not even effect him literally no effect at all
It seems like a stretch but it worked on Galactus in one of the animated TV shows. Fantastic Four, I think?
Yep, "Feel the burning torment of a Billion-Billion extinguished souls, experience the pain... of Eternal Guilt."
@@pumpkinknight5732 yeah that probably hurt a tad. 😁
Yup. They used Ghost Rider and the Penance Stare in that cartoon episode which was based on a comic book story where Dr. Strange performed a spell that did basically the same thing.
Mind blown 🤯
Just like all comic book abilities, they work except when they don't. All just whims of the writers.
The penance stare has 3 stages:
1- pain based on guilt, no guilt no pain, there is guilt your soul will burn.
2- pain based on sin, you committed a sin, you will feel it mentally not physically, if you like pain or used to it you will live.
3- pain becomes physically you committed a sin you will experience it physically, committe enough sins and you will be obliterated.
About Number 3 it does not matter if you feel guilty.

.....
I can hear Nicolas Cage saying the line to Chadwick Boseman and doing the action as followed
I had no idea that The Penance Stare doesn't work on Deadpool.
It works, listen carefully what he says 😐
It does.
Ghost Rider: Damn. 😓
If you have felt enough pain.... No extra amount of pain really matters... It just makes you angry...& would never work
Leach, Armor, Magik, and also Wolfsbane!
I thought the Hulk was immune as well?🤔
he wasn't immune, GR used penance on him and saw that mission (vengeance on those who killed his wife and the planet Sakaar) was just and he was an innocent victim.
@@clnblk7773 got it. Thanks!👍🏾
Could be Spirt of Vengeance was just down with Conan being super focused on vengeance. Like when Penitence didn't work on the Hulk during the original World War Hulk because the Spirit approved.
I remember that when Blackheart was managing Creed he truly brought hell to Las Vegas...
Washout is who I'm meaning talking about from the Marvel Comics X-Men Team Heroes Universe!!
In the ghost rider movie the penance stare didn't work on blackheart because he has no soul. In the German dub blackheart called it The "Schäm dich Blick" which translates to "Shame on you stare"
Wasn't Blackout also immune to the penance stare as well?
I’m questioning if the Penance Stare would work on a Cybertronian. We could possibly see the outcome now that Marvel has the Transformers license back.
Thanos penance stare is just a highlight reel
Crom dude!! Lol
I was just hoping deadpool doing penance stare on Thanos but this proved me wrong but still it would've been awesome if he appeared in endgame.
The way I see the symbiote problem is like in the movies, venom is part of a hive mind and has been for billions of years so every misdeed by every single symbiote for billions of years must like overpower the penance stare
Also doesn't work on Captain America... Because he's actually a good person.
Can’t imagine the stars would work on Vision and Ultron either
No, he clearly states it doesn’t work on robots early in the video.
Conan is divinely protected by Crom...so this makes sense...!
So the venom situation that it doesn’t affect ppl from another planet essentially ruling out Thor from being affected by it too
My favorite Penance Stare is when Ghost Rider used it on the Hulk during World War Hulk. And Ghost Rider walked away because the Hulk was in the right, despite all the other heroes.
I'm actually confused, cause it was used and worked on thanos I think in a comic run
Even Galactus fell the the stare
Well in a comic ghost rider becomes cosmic and kills thanos with the penance stare, he becomes cosmic by becoming galactus’ herald after killing the silver surfer
Even if it did work on Deadpool, he’ll just tell the writers to get him outta hell
So, to summarize, you either need to have divine protection, not have any regrets, or just have sheer will power.
Or a writer that doesn't know how the hell the power works, lol
It’s been used on people who don’t regret anything before.
I would pay money to see Alan Ritchson portray Conan in the Marvel Universe.
The more or less the vessel's power the more or less the power to tap into
its less about sin more about guilt otherwise its the same if you dont have any you are kinda immune
Good job
I would argue that any being with sentience has a soul
what about alien or predator,
dr doom,
doomguy,
mr x from RE,
kratos,
freddy,
jason,
and a ton of others.
I don't see why this should be so confusing. "Your soul is stained with the blood of the innocent! Feel their pain!" So the Stare won't work on anyone who (a) has never harmed an innocent or (b) has no soul to begin with. Seems pretty open and shut to me.
Here, I'll help you with the detractors... ahem, wizard did it!
Me, thinking that this meant Penance staring at you....
The penance stare does not work in symbiotes because it can't tell if its punishing the symbiote or the host, or who committed which sin.
Penance stare doesn't work on people who don't feel remorseful about their crimes, that also includes Carnage as well.
Imagine Ghost Rider makes a worldwide broadcast and stres at the world’s people😮
Most this just feels like a way for writers to make their characters seem badass without doing anything actually clever or unique.
