Solid quality video and fact about the Super 8. I referenced your “service” video in a lesson I taught at church. It helped create good discussion on that subject. Enjoy the videos as always.
Aaaahhhh wow. This just blew my mind. The idea that Super 8 was physically present at the time of shooting and later viewing is complex and nuanced. There is a deeper physical connection to the film itself than only the abstract mental memory triggered by viewing a video recorded on a digital media. Also, the film cannot filtered or edited after the fact, it is what it is.
For anyone else inspired to make one of these like myself, Fisher Price is still making the viewer and carts. 30 bucks CAD at Walmart for the viewer and two cartridges. Happy modifying!
You are the only RUclipsr that does this kind of Content and i would watch it anyways hhaa. Super fun video and just the fact that the clock was there on most timelapses shots gives another perspective and sense of timeline that i wouldn't have gotten if it wasn't there! Amazing film! :).
Fisher-Price hosts an event every year to paint all the fire hydrants in East Aurora, NY to look like toys. So many hidden gems from this playful company.
I kinda wish I didn't watch this video because I thought the movie viewers were "built" from scratch (I didn't know they were a Fisher Price toy) and was suitably impressed. But having looked them up on eBay now and see a bunch selling for under $10, it makes total sense to me to buy those and modify as you did to save time and money. But the idea to use them as part of a marketing tool is pure genius and the insight at 3:16 got me over this initial disappointment and sort of blew my mind. And Mr. Sachs was right, the videos you make and the stories you tell through them are your superpower.
I had that same Movie Viewer as a youngster and it survived me and then my two sisters. I think it was passed on to younger cousins eventually with a whole box-full of the movies. My favorite as a kid was a movie with Donald and Goofy going camping, and the road to the top of the mountain was very rough, so all the food and gear was thrown all over the camper (which came unhooked from the truck!) with Donald inside. I used to like to watch it, and then reverse it and see all the things fly back into their containers and back up unto the shelf. So cool to see this get a second life in a very profound way.
You know you are good at what you do when with virtually no words… by the end of a short video like this, I am crying. There is so much emotion in your videos. Thank you for all you do. Truly inspirational
Amazing video! On a philosophical level I like that the atoms, electrons, and energy that were there at the moment of shooting the video are now re-configuring right now for me to enjoy on RUclips... But that's for another video to make, I guess 😊
Can I request a video on custom diy "armless" sunglasses. Like the brand OMBRAZ. Their sunnies are spendy and lacking in variety, but they have Spirited Man style.
The Braun clock...everyone I know who has a certain design aesthetic has that clock. I wish I still had mine that I got back in the 90s, I don't remember what happened to it and is one thing I wish I still had. Thankfully they are still made and in various styles. Everyone I knew back then who had this specific clock was a tremendous influence in my life.
Van, this is amazing! You truely make me want to make contraptions with my hands again and perhaps share it on this platform soon 😊 This Super 8 viewer is beautiful and I feel very strongly about what said about how it is an artefact
I still have that toy in my Mom's basement. However, I already digitized all of our old 8MM and am editing sections and sharing with family a little as I go. very fun. Great idea though!
I’ve wondered what to do with my Super8s after they’ve been digitised. Now I know exactly what to do :-) Nice to know I’m not the only one suffering from films breaking/snapping. Apparently some stocks are notorious for it if the cameras aren’t working perfectly (few are these days).
I wonder how many frames are in the loop in a FPMV cartridge ? Wondering if I can fit 2 mini films in one Super8 canister to fill 2 cartridges. Don't think Van replies to these questions.....too busy building / life hacking!
I think this is my new fav RUclips channel! P.s. I’d be the first in line, if you ever decided to sell those navy blue button ups on your shop. Have a spirited day!

Yea I thought the clock was a nice touch as well! Would like to see that continue in future vids :)

Maybe your best Spirited Man film ever.
I remember having a Pink Panther cartoon of that toy.
That beat just hits different. So good.
I love the quote on film being there.
Amazing.
Adding the analog clocks to your creations was next level Van. LOVE it!
Love the overhead shot with the clock on the floor
Remarkable.

I was hoping this video would be on the way! Incredible! Thanks Van
Why remake the logos? Well...because he is Van Neistat, so ofc the logos must be remade 😂
Loved this one Van! :)
Amazing!!!! Lovely!!
Super cool 😃
Really enjoyed it Van! Really liked the time reference too. Thanks for the video.
Brilliant
I really do love this style of video. It's as simple as a how to but as depth and meaning within the episode! Stellar work Van!
Beautiful. Loved the aerial shot too.
So fu__ing AWESOME!!!!
When somebody starts 3D printing those projector cases, I'm on board for one.
do you have 3D printing? :)
@@aaleksiy sadly...no. I went the other way...subtractive CNC and laser, .
@@HugoHugunin is ok np just a question ;)

This is where the fun begins.
You are one absolutely cool as hell father van ❣️
I love every video of yours.
I literally bought an FP when I saw your first video. Glad this how-to video has arrived!
Dialogue light. Sentiment heavy. & Canva
Awesome

The most unique dude on the internet. No question.

Dieter Rams
I have been waiting for this film to be made since the HBO series.
THANK YOU VAN!!!!
Dieter Rams would be proud.

At this point I shouldn't be, but I'm always pleasantly surprised on what you can do. A great video.🤩

The real time clock was a nice touch.
About the time he redid the logos I became actually aware of the clock. A nice touch to communicate the passage of time indeed!
I digitalized all my old (grand)father's tapes, but now I'm glad I still kept the original copies. Looking for a new projector as we speak...
Great video! I would have like to have seen that plywood holder constructed as well!
Fawking brilliant man!
Makes me smile to see people using the proper sticker remover - some good ol Ronsonol.
"The film was _there_"
Love it!
Good video
True
What is Van doing with that little black controller on the desk at the end of this video? I’ve seen him working it before…ideas?
I would also love to know what’s going on here
It's a teleprompter controller I believe. I have a remote for mine as well and it will start and stop the text as it scrolls on the screen.
@@digdrivediy awesome. Thanks!

We’re working on it!
🙏
Van Neistat..jack of all trades master to none.
It looks like you could put more film in there though.
EPICCCCCCCC
Imagine one of these but like, giant sized. That'd be awesome
This family needs to share their damn talent with the rest of mankind!
I use to use tape my dads super 8 films together because I’d always melt the film on the hot bulb.
How was he able to view the film without color correction? are you able to view film in its true colors after developing it?
We are all artists, some just finish better.
Van can do no wrong
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 10/10 -OY3AH!
Whats the little button thingy you press? cue cards? and did you make and create it?. thanks Van love ya stuff :)
To replicate the logo is irrational, but the rational leads to predictability and a dispirited existence
Did you get the 200ASA stock recently or have you had that cold stored for a while?
