Idel (Volga) Kipchaks (Tatars) are an Oghur (Bulgar) people of ancient realm of Atil Bulgaria.
Folk songs from Atil-Ural Bulgar State. Atil-Ural (Idel-Ural) State was a state founded on the legacy of the ancient Atil Bulgar Khaganate [Volga Bulgaria in English] by Bashkirs and Tatars who are Kipchak Turks, and the Chuvash who are Oghur Turks, of the Turkic Bulgar legacy of Atil-Ural.
Tatar people's modern name is a misnomer. Russians were good at giving misnomers to Turkic peoples just to avoid mentioning ethnonyms such as Bulgar, Kipchak or Turk. Until 19th century, they were calling themselves Kipchak while naming their own language Türk (see: en.wikipedia.o... on Wikipedia). While Russians on purpose called all of Turkic peoples Tatar only avoiding the term Turk (or Kipchak) since 16th century. Another on intention misnomer example from Russians for example was giving Kirghiz name to modern-day Kazakhs and Kara-Kirghiz to modern-day Kyrgyz. Another intentionally misnomer was the naming of East Turkestan people who only identify as Turk and no other, in 19th or 20th century, Russians to avoid mentioning the name Turk again, gave them a name of a completely unrelated Turkic people, called Uyghurs, who are long gone since 840 AD. Kazakhs and Kyrgyz people on the other hand, creditably, undisputedly, well-documentedly are mostly (around 80% or 90%) Mongol in origin. Kazakhs were not calling themselves Kazakh just because their ethnonym was Kazakh, Kazakh was rather a political name, like "Ottoman". There was no Ottoman people but Turkish people, so Turkish people called themselves Turkish while Kazakhs were also calling themselves Turkish (Turkic), while their political name was Kazakh. Russians changed that also. "Kazak El" actually meant "Libertarian/Free Country". Azerbaijanis were calling themselves nothing but only "Turkish". But Russians changed that also, gave them a fake identity "Azerbaijani". Because ethnonyms, real names like Kipchak, Bulgar, Turk, unite peoples, and unions, for sure, could block the imperial and colonial bloody journey of Russian Tsardom. Mentioning Bulgar on the other hand was a plus one problem for Russia (it seems it's still is when it comes to historiography), because Russia manipulates history and makes other West countries trust or believe them, for example, Turkic Bulgars are completely Slav for them, the original bearers of the name Rus, who were Germanic Norse Viking-like Varangian-like Rurik's people, are also completely Slav. The greatest terrorist country the history has ever seen, the greatest history thievery the history ever seen, the greatest brainwash (aka mankurtisation) machine the history ever seen, the greatest history manipulators the history has ever seen, was Russia, all made by Russia. They cannot, never accept the facts and deceive their own generations, as a nature of being the most rapacious imperials, colonists, occupants of the world, ones like Putin, Zhirinovsky, Peskov, etc. are good examples for this typical infamous well-known Russian/Soviet brainwashing propaganda machine. Since 1550s, until 1990s, Kipchaks particularly, was under heavy mankurtisation attack besides the physical tortures like forced deportations and constant disgusting ways of blatant genocidal acts.
