Almost 2 years later and this highlight still amazes me. This American loves his footy!! And his Pies!!
2 things:
1. When Howe slipped and dropped the ball Nick Daicos gets in to help him up while reassuring him, knowing Howe would have felt terrible for potentially losing the game.
2. After Elliott kicked the goal Nick Daicos was one of the first in celebrating with him, the pure joy written all over his face, you can see how much it means to him.
Love this kid, future leader.
nice pick up. He's a team player for sure!
A credit to the name
His goal in the first quarter was insane too, legendary stuff from daicos
I should really delete this
I thought the game was over when Howe slipped 🙁
But that kick from Bianco to Elliott, so superb!
@@lewisnicholson9694 That was Josh
"Ice in the veins" is accurate. I hate collingwood as much as any rational person, but that's some absolutely stone cold play from Elliott. To take a mark against two defenders in the dying minute and take the responsibility of a drop punt from that angle and still kick straight takes massive balls
Billy Picken was 100% behind that last kick, that was a miracle
" Here comes Billy " !
Here comes Billy. One of the only Magpies to play well against Richmond in the 1980 grand final even though he was suffering from concussion. A great magpie player. Tiger supporter.
Oh yes!! I just love the Pies!! Greetings from a huge fan from Germany 🤍🖤🤍
So damn good. Thank you Jamie and Bianco for the amazing pass. R.I.P Billy Picken forever in our hearts 💕.
THIS IS ONE OF THE GAMES OF THE YEAR!!!, full credit to the pies for yet again having their noses in front when it mattered most and for Jamie Elliott kicking an incredible goal after the siren under immense pressure . The bombers should keep their heads high, after conceding the first 6 goals of the match, they remarkably turned the game around and looked that they were in a winning position but it got stolen away from them. P.S, commiserations for all the bombers fans though, this must have felt like hell and I have been in that situation before this year.
T H E game of the year
Umpires feature again, 2 vital free kicks not paid in bombers forward 50 swings the game magpies way in last 8 minutes of game, no I don't follow bombers or Magpies just don't like the bullshit umpiring, used to be if umpires were any good you wouldn't notice them.
@@garyburgess2072 Yawn. No mention of Ginnivan having his head ripped off in the first quarter or some very hot holding the balls where there was no prior. There were bad decisions all day but one side didn't benefit.
In my opinion it was the second best game of the year also umpires kinda bias to Essendon
@@garyburgess2072 If you're saying the Pies won coz of the umpires, that's BS. There were plenty of dodgy calls that went the other way. Pies won coz they played the big moments better but the Bombers didn't deserve to lose.
Almost exorcises the horrors of the goal from the 2018 GF. Just Briliant Billy. Thankyou.
Nothing and i mean nothing erases a GF loss
@Soussy Maybe but the losses always hurt
No it does not!
Best game for Collingwood this season! Hope we can do well in finals!
Was a great game, great win Collingwood, especially for Elliott!
This is a team that knows how to win the close ones, even tho they’re making the coach go grey early and giving the fans heart attacks, but how good has it been, these games are edge of your seat thrillers, no other team has this support or these games or the crowds
They can't have this luck all the time tho, will probably run out in finals
Tbf, ‘close games’ have come against North, Ess, and Adelaide; bottom 4 sides.
But the nail biter wins against Gold Coast and Carlton was impressive, I’ll give them that.
But in saying that, 106% for a top 4 side suggests elements of luck plays a role in a lot of their wins.
They can’t ride on this relying on close games forever. This is sport, the tide and momentum will turn!
@@cbgg1585 On the other side of that they had convincing wins against better sides so your argument kind of falls apart there.
@@cbgg1585 its not luck it's the fact that they are able to remain composed when it comes down to the final 2 minutes yea games like North and Adelaide should be blowouts but they don't rush anything and don't do anything unnecessary
@@cbgg1585 every game it looks like their luck has run out, but every time they flip the switch and turn it on when it’s needed and over the last 2 months they have prevailed… every single time.
I think collingwood is going to give me a heart attack this year... its like everygame is that 2018 final all over again
Except they win close games when it isn't a grand final
@@criddlegakes2650 that comment aged well !!!

Absolutely agree ⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️⚫️⚪️
"im a collingwood supporter but heres my biased collingwood opinion"
Agreed!! 🖤❤️🖤
@@lermberl it’s not biased. being down by 20 points with 15 minutes left to winning by a goal after siren, needless to mention the 85,000 fans and that fact that it is a big rivalry between these two clubs
probs one of collingwood's best ever wins in the pies v bombers rivaly
Not after today’s win😊
@John Taylor can't beat winning on the siren ( my opinion) but today was fkn awesome no doubt
@@TeeSlice most definitely mate most definitely
Oh wow #9 for trending
Bloody hell......to ice that kick........Straight through the middle. Billy Elliott take a bow, that was phenomenal. R.I.P. Billy Picken.
What a game, I am an Essendon supporter and Collingwood really deserved that win as it will earn them a double chance in finals if they can win their last 4 games. But being an Essendon supporter means grief, I literally cried and punched my chair when Jamie Elliott kicked that goal. Absolutely Electric stuff from both teams!
love your vibe on everything
Essendon have to revisit last 5 mins. Some questionable decisions and the ball got too easy to Elliott. They’re still really impressive. Devastating loss because they played so good
It was a great game because Essendon brought their best game. Respect.
Jeremy pies supporter ever time we play no matter ladder pos always great game dons have a lot of young talent like us
@@burky5000 I couldn’t agree more mate. two good clubs with good history’s coming up at the same time. Finals footy will be looking good For collingwood and hopefully Essendon aswell in a year or so.
Think I've watched this about 30 times can't get enough of it.
Me and my partner (both Pies) were at this game, when Howe slipped over my partner cracked it and walked off thinking we’d for sure just lost. He returned right as Jamie marked it. He asked me what happened and I could barely speak.. it all happened so fast!! Siren, goal… and the most unforgettable roar from the crowd. Absolutely insane match to be at. I’ll never forget it ❤❤❤
That was insane. Probably the game of the year and J Daicos goal of the year. Essendon were very good but Collingwood just refuse to lose and keep unearthing new players too. Johnson looks great, so composed and Carmichael was so important when he came on. No way those two can be dropped now
I know at the end of the day it was just a set shot, but Elliott's goal could be a goal of the year contender in my eyes, just for the situation, the pressure, the amount of fans, all of it. But that's just my 2 cents.
@@SilentHotdog28 Fair call
@@SilentHotdog28 considering that Carlton player, Jack Newns I think, was a top 3 for GOTY for a boundary set shot after the siren kick, Jamie should be one too

OMG ONE OF THE BEST GAMES OF THE SEASON!!! How did Collingwood win that. That was insane. Heartbreaking for the Dons - their comeback after Q1 was spectacular!! Some of their missed goals come back to bite them. It would have been an epic win. Credit to the Pies who know how to win in these situations.
Yeah this has to be one of the best games i've ever watched, absolute classic. Can't imagine being at the G and being a fan of either team for this
What a win from our boys I think I lost my voice

Was that actually dropping the ball by Howe? He was tackled after the slipped over
?
You're not allowed to drop the ball. If you get tackled mid bounce and don't dispose of the ball correctly it is a free kick to the other team.
From an Essendon fan it was a shame the boys couldn't hold on but we put up a good fight to Collingwood. Good kick by Elliot too🙁👍
Thanks mate, Essendon have been very good this last month and a bit. I was so worried about this game, thought you guys might steal it and you very nearly did. Next year I feel Essendon should be better, they have it in them.

@@datsunyellow2570 Yeah I didn't get into the ground until halfway through the first quarter so I missed most of the damage. I think people should be worried about Collingwood next year. They're looking like a real dangerous side
For Essendon this reminds me of the 1986 elimination final against Fitzroy when Conlan kicked that goal at the death.
This is the best example of never give up until the time is over. Hope teams will play grand final this year will have a close game like this. 😊

collingwood are like the exact opposite of richmond

Best last quarter of the year. Eliot must have seen the Richmond stuff up on the siren and took the responsibility to win the game. And he did it.
Good observation.
Collingwood gonna win the whole thing mark my words
Billy Elliott you legend - that was clutch. Look at the way he walks back after taking the mark. Never in doubt.
I don't support either team but I feel for the Bombers. They fought so hard only to be denied at the final moment but I guess that's footy.
That is what sport is all about, take your chances, this Jamie Elliot has had a horror run of injuries over the years he lucky to be playing in reality, great to see him do that, come from a small country town, lost his father at a young age, is fearless competitor.

As a Essendon fan i have to say this was a cracker game both teams put up a good fight but the clutch kick from Elliott won the game in the end.

Every kid has played that final kick for goal in their backyard.
Honestly, us Collingwood fans need a special healthcare plan, every week I need a heart transplant
Hahah I was so fragile. Took a biccy on the satdy night and was trembling all through this game! Thankyou Jamie for bringing equilibrium back to my life
The greatest goal in Collingwood history
Right up there mine is still Peter daccois goal on the boundary line in 1990 against West coast in the finals gocfe
DOM SHEED
@@josephhughes3199 His one in the 90 GF wasnt bad either
I love Peter Daicos’s goal in the 1981 Prelim against Geelong. Very similar to Josh’s goal yesterday.
Why was Howe penalised for holding the ball when he was given any prior opportunity? He didn't even have the ball when tackled. He dropped the ball earlier without any tackle.
If Collingwood manage to finish in the top four, their current percentage of 106.2 may be the lowest ever for a top-four team in the history of the Australian Football League. They are treading on thin ice and it is only a matter of time before it breaks if they put a foot wrong. Anyway, what a bloody good win for the Magpies. Their fans are sent home happy and I have a feeling the Magpies might not be done swooping on a potential Qualifying Final. They just have to keep winning. As for Essendon, what the hell were they thinking for letting Collingwood back in the game in the first place?
On a more positive note, Jamie Elliott (I hope I got the spelling correct), you have done Billy Picken and Con Britt very proud.
May those two rest in peace.
that's right, Essendon should of never allowed the ball to get down to the other end.

pendles kicks out before the goal umpire signalled. should have been called back.
WOW, just WOW. We've had some crackers lately... thanks Richmond!
The umpiring in these last 2 minutes was nothing short of disgraceful.
Could have been 50 against Murphy for kicking the ball away. Could have been a free to Howe for being tackled without the ball. Could have been downfield because Bianco was dumped after he kicked it. Could have been brought back because Pendles kicked out before the umpire signalled. We could rewrite the whole game. AFL - a sport where no rule is B&W. Grey everywhere. Instead of cleaning it up, the AFL put their PR dept to work, and here's what they came up with - 'umpire discretion'. Quite remarkable. I guess they figure controversy is good publicity, so let's keep the fans squabbling for 7 days about the the umpiring. The downside of course is that the umps get booed off every week, but for some reason this doesn't seem to bother the afl. Umpire Discretion. I mean really. They take us for fools. Meanwhile Gil's installing a vineyard on his property. Speaking of wines, is it just coincidence that Gil quit his job the same week that the Port player grabbed his chest?
I missed this play I turned the radio off when Howe got caught and I tell ya ffs
I was there.
Never been hugged by so many randoms
At 1:37-1:38 - the leadership of Pendlebury, immediately instructing Moore to go to the empty flank for quick kick in, Essendon were far too slow here to react, amazing on field stuff from the skipper
Good pickup. There’s a story on the Age just now saying just that.
Who the fk was the squealer in the commentary?
Even the essendon fan filming to the right of the pile on was getting excited!

As a Lifelong & Passionate Collingwood supporter, this was definitely the Greatest Finish to a Game in Living Memory.
I love the name JAMIE 💋💋💋💋💋
0:48 - Just that one call alone, Collingwood deserved to win it. What BS. Umpires will never get support when they continue to call the game like this.
Edit: Not taking away from Eliot’s amazing kick by the way!
If you bounce the footy while getting tackled it's HTB, and always has been. Lol
Collingwood supporter here. That is 100% holding the ball, no two ways about it.
If you're going to be salty about the umpiring though, look at their refusal to pay a free kick to Ginnivan. I also believe there were a few times the Essendon player threw the ball one in front of goals in the 4th quarter.
@@guavacadoII I'm still unsure whether Howe intentionally bounced the ball or fumbled it while he lost his footing. If so it was holding the man. If you look in the third quarter Jamie Elliott was about to tackle a bombers player who did bounce the ball intentionally but got a free for holding the man and a 50m when JE got annoyed. So go figure!
@@guavacadoII yes true, but on first glance looked like a fumble/out of possession. The camera cut didn’t help either. Howe’s compliant reaction says a lot actually. 👍🏻

It was a prelim, and what about the EF vs West Coast
Look at the Essendon supporter at 2:41 - his team has just choked in the worst possible way and all he cares about is filming it on his phone

I think that was sweet karma there. Wasn't really holding the ball. More like he slipped and bounced the ball. He lost possession but should have been play on. Anyway worked out well in the end. So what was the explanation the umpire gave? That the commentator said that's the explanation

The smart play was for Jones to maintain team possession. Couple of lateral kicks to run the clock down. But then we would have missed Elliot's ice cold kick.
What a HEART STOPPER. Great game by both sides, to bad there had to be a WINNER and a LOSER . The best game of the year even more. 😀👍
Jones technically didn't tackle Howe for holding the ball. Howe slipped and lost posession so there never should have been a free kick in the first place.
Well done Elliott😊

Not to be a sulk, but this umpire umpiring this game was o’ so slow to make decisions...

To be fair, the umps were a bit dodgy both ways and the dons should have made more of their chances.
The roar!!
Noone Talking about the pass from trent bianco
It was unreal
Elliot was one on two. Had Bianco put it wider (toward goal) he (Elliot) would have been 'murdered'.
When it's two on one like that, it's less than a 50/50 proposition for the one who's one out. A good effort to take the mark, I thought.

Really though. Credit to Essendon for the competition. Must’ve been a painful pill to swallow. Keep your heads high, though.
I don’t like our chances of breaking our streak (if we keep this up) when we go into the big time with sports fans saying: ‘They can’t keep getting away with this.’ Not saying that they’re wrong.
We’ve got enough hate on twitter and RUclips as it is of this year. But I guess in my point of view. Well done bombers.
