- We experienced torrential rains during the past month and even though it stopped, we still get intermittent rains. These unexpected sporadic spells of rain disturbs work and daily work routines. It is difficult for us to step outside due to these monsoonal rains. But of course, there is ample time for my home cooking of my favourite dishes to feed my brother and grandmother with love. So, I started to cook slowly that afternoon.
The moment I stepped into the kitchen after cleaning and washing the prawns which I had received in the morning, suddenly my brother said that it was about to rain and that he was too lazy to eat rice for lunch, and he wanted soup. But his weather prediction came after checking the sunny skies without even a distant sign of rain. I smell something cheeky about this guy. Somehow, he had spoken to my grandmother and had convinced her after putting the idea of the soup craving also, thereafter only that he came closer to whisper into my ears about his soup craving. Of course, I obliged his request with love as he is my little brother. After all, where can he enjoy his favourite food except, only from home? I am sure that other elder sisters also go soft in front of their little brothers' requests in life.
I started to wash the vegetables and got ready to make the soup. I cooked the soup with a combination of vegetables such as carrots, potatoes, leeks, beans, cabbage, and tomatoes. Some cut the vegetables into small chunks for this soup. But I cut them into bite-sized chunks since the soup is for lunch. I barbecued the cleaned and seasoned prawns in skewers, with pieces of bell pepper even though my brother asked me to put the prawns into the soup. it was a coincidence indeed as the moment I kept the soup on the stove to be cooked, torrential rain started to fall, confirming my brother's earlier weather prediction. what a telepathic mouth he has.
While I was making the soup, my brother also came with some fried crackers. His Mung crackers which he had fried in oil were very tasty and looked good as well. All of us enjoyed the soup and the crackers amidst the spell of that rain. It was such a pleasant experience as all of us enjoyed the soup for lunch more than our usual rice and curries. Just as my brother predicted, the rich taste of the soup really complimented the cold rainy weather that day.

පහුගිය මාසෙම හොඳටම වැහල වැහැල යාන්තම් වැස්ස පෑව්වත් හිටපු ගමන් සැරින් සැරේ වහිනවා. වෙලාවක් කලාවක් නැතුව වහිනව කියන්නෙ ඉතින් කිසිම වැඩක් පිලිවෙලකට කරගන්න ලැබෙන්නෑ.ගෙදරින් එලයට යෑමකුත් නෑ. ඒ කියන්නෙ ඉතින් උයන පිහන වැඩ වලට නම් ඕන තරම් කාලෙ තියෙනවා.ඉතින් මං හෙමි හෙමිහිට දවල්ට උයන්න පටන්ගත්තා.
උදේ හම්බවෙච්ච ඉස්සො ටික සුද්ද කරල සෝදගෙන කුස්සියට ගොඩවෙද්දිම මේං මල්ලි කියනව වැහැගෙන එන නිසා බත් කන්න කම්මැලියි, සුප් හදල දෙන්න කියල. හැබැයි හොදටම අව්ව පායලා වැස්සක ලකුණක්වත් පේන්න තිබුනෙ නැති අහසටත් එබිල බලල තමයි මල්ලි දවල්ට වහිනව කියල කියන්නෙ. කොහොමින් කෝම හරි ආත්තම්මවත් චාටුවක් දාල රවට්ටගෙන දවල්ට සුප් බොන්න අත්තම්මවත් කැමති කරගෙන තමයි හෙමිහිට මට කොඳුරන්න ඇවිත් තියෙන්නෙ. මොනව කරන්නද ඉතින්, මල්ලිනෙ. ආස දේවල් ගෙදරින් මිසක් වෙන කොහෙන් කන්නද, මට වගේම අනිත් අක්කලටත් මල්ලිලලගෙ වචන ඉස්සරහ හිත් උණු වෙනව ඇති.
මං ඉතින් ආපහු එලවලු සෝදල කපල සුප් එක හදන්න ලෑස්ති වුනා. කැරට්, අර්තාපල්, ලීක්ස්, බෝංචි, ගෝව, තක්කාලි හැමදේම ටික ටික එකතු කරල සුප් එක හැදුවා. සමහරු නම් මේ සුප් එකට එලවලු කපන්නෙ ගොඩක් පොඩිවට. ඒත් මම දවල් කෑමට හදපු නිසා හපන්න පුලුවන් තරමෙ කෑලි කැපුවා. කලින් උයන්න ලෑස්ති කරගත්ත ඉස්සො ටිකත් සුප් එකට දාන්න කියල මල්ලි කිව්වට මම ඒක බෙල්පෙපර් කෑලිත් එක්ක කූරුවල අමුනල පුච්චල ගත්තා. පුදුම වැඩේ කියන්නෙ අපේ මල්ලි කිව්ව විදියටම සුප් එක ලිපේ තියපු ගමන්ම මහා ධාරානිපාත වැස්සක් එකපාරටම කඩාපාත් වුනානෙ. අනේ මන්ද පුදුම කටක් තමයි.
මං සුප් එක හදන අතරෙදි මල්ලිත් තෙලේ බදින රොටි වගයක් හදගෙන ආවා. සුදුපාට තෙල් රොටිය හරිම රසයි, පෙනුමයි, ලස්සනයි. ඉතින් අපි වැහි බීරමේම රොටි කාල සුප් බිව්වා. ඇත්තටම එදා දවල්ට බත් කනවට වැඩිය ආසාවෙන් අපි සුප් රස බැලුවා. මල්ලි හිතුව වගේම වැහි හීතලට සුප් රස අගේට ගැලපුනා.

The lentil soup with lots of veggies accompanied by the tasty crackers and the yummy prawn skewers was an absolutely cracker of a menu.
