I'm not sure why people think just because a few years have passed the Hylians totally forgot about everything and somehow rebuilt the place back up right over so many soldiers that might have perished? Plus the Castle itself clearly had not recovered and returned back to it's former pristine state. Tears' dark tone is memorable and makes me want to get to the root of the issue, seeing the sick Hylian affected by the Gloom. It's gritty and you want to help them. The OP is mistaken, this is a Zelda adventure not Love Island or a Hylian version of a rom Com.

What is just as heartbreaking is a little story detail that was sort of hinted at in-game but not fully conveyed. In the Masterworks, there is apparently a section speaking of how Zelda felt an inner conflict with herself over whether she should rebuild Hyrule as a kingdom like before or if the people were better off without a Royal Family, sort of having feelings of inadequacy for not being there for her people when they needed her most during the recovery of the Calamity. It explains why she worked so hard to help Hyrule after destroying Calamity Ganon (beyond just being generally a virtuous Princess overall). Considering the kingdom keeps referring to her as “Princess” and the mass panic for when she goes missing, we sort of already know the answer of what everyone else thinks about reviving the sovereignty of the Royal Family of Hyrule from the people, at least as far as it goes for Zelda.

    • @StuCheeks
      @StuCheeks Месяц назад +7

Gaahhhh, I wish that was included as a main plot point for her! Even if it does cover some of the same story beats for her in BotW with her feeling inadequate, the question of "are the people better off without a Royal Family" would have been a good one to ask and explore as part of the rebuilding efforts.

The concept of the “jungle entrance in the Farosh province’ would’ve given us the insight of how Zelda learned more about the Spring Dragons during her time in the Era of Hyrule’s Founding. I would have loved to have more sky islands, of a greater variety.
I recall reading that they tried to have more islands at first, but they felt it ended up cluttering the skies too much.
My solution to that would be to have a system somewhat like skywards sword's, where from the ground up only the handful of islands that were lowest are visible, but once you've crossed into the sky past a sky-barrier, it reveals _all_ the islands to their full extent.
Just imagine the visual spectacle of being shot into the skies, and then suddenly having an entire second world in the skies revealed once you pass by the cloud layer.

The Champion story is so incredibly heartbreaking and the closest thing that we get to some memory is the picture of Zelda’s house. I'm not complaining too much, given how Mipha is the only one that mattered to me lmao, but still, it's a pretty big deservice to the rest of the Champions, kinda makes me feel weird knowing Zelda had time to build multiple stone tombstones across Hyrule in honor of the fallen, built a school and took over Link's house, but the thought of honoring her former guardians and friends in some sort of way never crossed her mind lol

My issue with TotK is that it's a sequel, but it doesn't try to be. We get very few tidbits of BotW lore, but overall, TotK's story tries heavily to disconnect from it and bubble itself into it's own story/lore. All the new characters tend to lack depth or have very few screentime, it also feels like most of them are just plot devices to move the story forward for another, but feel stale in comparison. Characters like Rauru, Mineru, and Sonia get major characterization in past cutscenes, however, Rauru takes the place of King Rhoam/Old Man as the tutorial guide for the Sky Island and disappears afterwards, leaving his story to cutscenes, however, he just ends up feeling like a copypaste of whatever formula King Rhoam/Old Man had in BotW. (I personally think it would be cool to see him as another companion character like Midna since we basically got a part of him connected to Link's body), Mineru was withheld until the end of the story outside of cutscenes and she barely had any screentime as is, she barely got to interact with the other current Sages, because once you complete her quest, she stays in the Spirit Temple and the next time you see her, she fights alongside Link and the others during the horde/Ganondorf battles. I also think if the story allowed for her to come out of the Purah Pad, having it as another vessel, she could be a companion with her brother, so we could have had two companions. As for Sonia, she's a wonderful character, however, it's painful to see her killed so early on in the unlockable past cutscenes by a warlock punch to the back and then don't appear until the end for 1 min. (She didn't even get official art and a bio in the character gallery, it just shows unimportant she was)
I could also throw it out there and say that Ancient Sages basically having no character other than just being the same rinse and repeat cutscene 4 times over hurts their importance to the story, they aren't EVEN named. They could have done a nice tie-in to Urbosa's post-Divine Beast cutscene and named Ancient Gerudo Sage, Nabooru, to tie in, but they didn't. My headcanon is that they are named Nabooru, Darunia, Ruto, and Mido.
It also doesn't help that like almost every NPC in the game doesn't even recognize Link at all outside of a few character. It's just painful.
I could also throw it out there that Link didn't feel like he much of a connection with Ganondorf at all, like they barely interacted and it didn't feel as personal to face him with Link, it would have been with Zelda, but not Link. Also without the Triforce being a huge importance to the story, they aren't connected over the conflict for it, Link and Ganondorf just felt so heavily disconnected this game.
Also looking at the Master Works designs for the characters, we could have better looks for the characters, but they choose not to go that route and just went for simple designs, even for the current Sages. Also Yona, looked like a better character in concept art and it would have been amazing to see her be tough and holding a samurai sword in clothing, I just felt like they just downside her character to "wife" and took out something could have made her more memorable, but overall she's just Mipha 2.0.
Honestly just so much wasted potential, I love the game, I really do and I feel like it improves the overall overworld from BotW, however, it just ends up shooting itself in the foot with all the issues it had, I'm not even gonna go into the fact they copied the formula from BotW, with the past cutscenes, compared to BotW, it was better if it was just used for Link's Memories and they did something else for the Tear memories.

In my opinion, this was the worst iteration of Ganondorf. Every previous appearance of Ganondorf has been amazing until this fool. No cunning plan, no motivations besides "pOwEr"

Imagine if we had a bunch of different tarry town-like side quests where we went to old ruined towns in botw, and were able to help restore them to a livable town. As is the only one like this is Lurelin, a village we already have visited and know what it looks like.

I would've loved the festival opening it could've been the festival of all the races come together to party the new champions are created and then link and zelda get a report from a knight about a cave near the castle they found, then link and zelda travel down the cave find the mural reciting the imprisoning war, and find ganondorfs mummy and then we get that cool as awakening cutscence and all the festival goers especially the new champions and impa feel the tremor of ganondorfs power pushing the castle up the people run away screaming. And that's the opening of totk. Oh and mmummified ganondorf would be up in the castle instead of in the depths doing nothing and zelda wouldn't turn into a dragon instead she would find the very first deku tree and place the master sword in its pedestal during the founding of hyrule and use the secret stones power to take her back to the future which causes the secret stone to shatter (i hate how totk was another time paradox) and this would either be DLC or an interlude where we play as zelda in both instances. And there would also be multiple sidequests similar to lurelin village where we rebuild villages. And each area would have a bolsons construction sign instead of them being dotted all over.

As much as I think exploring a fully-rebuilt castle town would be beyond awesome, I do kind of get why it is coming along slowly...
Cities like Warsaw were re-built so quickly because it was home to alot of people...there were tons of people who had lives there and were invested into seeing those lives re-built.
Meanwhile...even if there were some residents of Castle Town who survived the Calamity, the Calamity was a full century ago. Aside from Zelda, Link...and maybe the three shiekah elders themselves, I don't know if there were any confirmed surviving residents of castle town by the time BOTW happened. The few other hylians in the games who were around to see the Calamity were in Hateno at the time of it, if memory serves...and NOBODY wanted to go back and live anywhere near the center of Hyrule while those ancient guardians were zooming around, that's for sure.
So Castle Town's rebuilding was likely coming along so slowly because there was a lack of able-bodied people who had viewed it as a home...

    • @speedude0164
      @speedude0164 Месяц назад

I was also really interested in this and upset at the unlikelyhood of it actually happening, but then I thought about it some more and realized how pointless it would actually be. The population of Hyrule was significantly decreased following the Calamity, and we're specifically told that all the Castle's residents were killed. Given the present day situation, there just isn't any reason to prioritize rebuilding such a massive settlement since the survivors all appear to have a home already. Certain traveling merchants may not, but at that point you could just build a smaller settlement for them. In addition, I like the idea that the knowledge on how to build with materials used for Hyrule Castle was lost to time as it shows how significant of a setback the Calamity was for the kingdom. The castle falling into neglect in the present is a good indicator for this.

It just seemed lazy and lot of the direction they went with because they had to sacrifice all these cool ideas just so they could make sure their new gimmicks with the engine would work day 1. So they would not be buggy or break the game too hard. Zelda isn’t minecraft and I think they forgot that to some degree. I’ve been playing since Zelda 1, just see my channel, I’m obsessed with Zelda and no, not just the classics, BotW is my favorite. And this game just felt like a knockoff of that game, with a worser story, and not a sequel at all because the game doesn’t truly feel connected to that game. It acts like most of it never happened except for some small minor details connecting the two but desperately wants to separate itself. It feels like they wanted to do a new zelda game with a completely different story but were too lazy to actually make a new zelda game from the ground up and instead, opted to reuse assets, add a new disconnected story using similar themes, have familiar faces, land and then slap a new label on it.

Not all of Castle Town had to be rebuilt, but there could have been some completed buildings or even just nearly completed buildings. Something showing true progress. We didn't really see new buildings or towns anywhere; Hateno was the same, Gerudo Town was the same (didn't even have anything more at Kara Kara), Goron City, Kakariko, Zora's Domain (unless you count moving Mipha's statue to it's new place), same, same, same. TOTK improved on BOTW in so many ways, bigger world, more vertical, more ways to traverse the world, better dungeons, better bosses, even more and exceptional creativity applied to the gameplay. Then people watch this video and now TOTK is a terrible game... good job I guess. Perhaps the reason a lot of stuff was cut was because the switch hardware couldn't handle it all. Seeing some of the concepts for other sky islands makes me sad/mad they didn't go harder on the Zonai culture shown through the ruins.
They should have leaned a lot harder into the archeology aspect. Maybe totally do away with the launch towers and making regional maps available from NPCs after completing quests to help them, but that also reveal new Zonai lore to the player. Retrieving items from the sky to give the archeologists? Or make the maps some sort of Zonai artifact left by Mineru to download into the PurahPad. (I know the towers are the "go check out that thing on the horizon" strategy that worked so well for BotW, but it was just too similar)
I think they should have made early game traversing the sky to other islands mandatory before going to the surface. Loftwings? or some Zonai version. (Put the hand powers as in-world items to earn going around the GSI instead of just in the Shrines BotW style. Only ofter completing some main sky/Zonai related quest does the light dragon do her thing to reveal access to the surface.
They should have only put shrines in the sky only and then require a sky-dive to surface locations. (Of course more better sky islands, but far fewer and more dense shrines. Maybe only whole vessels as rewards instead of orbs.)
As for a rebuilt Castle Town. My thoughts are they should have leaned into Zelda as a time traveler and had Link wake up to a never-Calamity Hyrule totally in tact with a sitting royal family, including a Princess Zelda (but not the one Link lost), that he has to earn her trust to then help all the Regions. Just imagine the entire Map filled with small villages all over to explore, an entire Castle Town to learn its secrets, the other regions with more developed townships, and all the farms with people working their fields (to save from monsters). The Upheaval is the biggest thing to ever happen since the Prophet Zelda had been right about how to avoid all the horrible things so far. She did not predict the Upheaval!! btw, the Light Dragon is worshiped and has her own Spring somewhere just like the original three. also also: OG Zelda doesn't get transformed back, and remains the Light Dragon forever. However, new Zelda befriends the Hero, takes her on as her guard and so on.

I think what we got was great, but I do agree that they had so many amazing concepts that weren't fully realized in the end. More variety in the sky islands and depths would have made up for a lot of that honestly. The depths were far to vast to be simply one monotonous aesthetic throughout the area. I would have, at the very least, wanted the same amount of "regions" in the depths as we had on the surface (Akkala being autumn-themed, Faron being jungle/rainforest-themed, Lanayru being more wet, and having different stones making up the cliffs, Gerudo being a desert, Hebra being an arctic region, and so forth). I would have also loved to honestly see more zonai influence beneath the depths, apart from supply/vehicle depots, and the occasional forge or ruin. Why were they down there, apart from mining zonaite? What were the mysteries behind the mysterious statue of the dog-like race never before mentioned in BOTW/TOTK's universe?
I feel like the limitations of the switch definitely played a big part in how much they could pack into the game, especially given the versatility the new abilities provided, so from a technical perspective, I understand why we didn't get that level of detail, it's still just a tad bit disappointing, given that we'll most likely never see these places again in the foreseeable future, unless they go back to BOTW or TOTK's storyline somewhere down the line after whatever is coming next for the franchise since I believe the zelda team has already stated that they're moving on from BOTW and TOTK (Honestly, I don't foresee us getting another open-world zelda game in a similar manner for a long time since they'd always be compared to BOTW and TOTK. They'll probably focus on remakes and remake sequels like Link's Awakening HD and Echoes of Wisdom, maybe even HD remasters of older games like Ocarina of Time, giving it a fresh modern coat of paint that they tend to do with their game franchises-)

this is why folks were rightfully P.O.'ed when they announced that there would be no DLCs available for TotK. hence why the mod community made the challenge mode.
and believe me, i'm this tempted into getting a PC-version of TotK for that reason alone, but i'm worried about getting swatted for playing a hacked version DESPITE ALREADY OWNING THE GAME'S CARTRIDGE I PAID FOR.

The Zelda we didn't get is one where the world as a whole changes as time goes on.
We could have had link get some time travel powers, and go back to see the beginning of Hyrule, or like, the power of seasons, or opening different parts of the depths rather than just a big flat bland land.
They gave link a fun new power, but the botw was the world and not link. The sequel needed to improve on the world in some way. There was nothing to see in the sky islands, nothing to see in the depths, and the mainland didn't have anything cool at the cool views anymore.

I nust find do odd the lack story continuity from BoTW to this game given its the sequel, but for me, if the game would have given me a few more unique moenets in the sky islands and in the depths, it would had been fine
And yes, that would include more contrast in the artstyle.

Honestly, I got so burned out by both BotW, and to a greater extent, TotK, because of the general emptiness the games had for their vast world. These ideas making it into the game may well have saved it for me. I also had lots of trouble with reaching the sky islands, and having to build pretty much everything you needed to move onward. I genuinely would have liked the original concept far better. Though, I think I'm glad the depths are a darkened and gloom filled place at least. Though they could have still kept some stuff.

The most far ahead issues problem would be the Switch Tech, probably the sky island is super hard to build like how do you map and draw this into the paper , imagine you look at a plane paper nothing else just white how to you want it to see the floating rock formations with sunset meadow grass and golden apple trees close to the cotton candy cloud of golden Sun, falling water falls that reflects a rainbow 🌈 from the sky and shattered pieces clustering rain drops have taken to fall from the land of Hyrule. With the power of Switch 2 Hopefully Nintendo would consider this to brush up in All there Sky island 🏝️ 👍🖤✌️💪.

I was hoping there'd be other sky islands the other two ceremony armor sets would've been revealed to being to unlocking or something...would've been nice. And I agree we should've had either rauru or mineru as guides but at the same time how could they do that without spoiling the story for us? Since either of them could've told us practically everything. Its a shame in the end we got what we ended up getting. Could have been much more but they kind of pigeon holed themselves

This is the ultimate conclusion of: gameplay is the focal point of our mission with story as an after effect. Things were changed and removed or underdeveloped due to the world building being an afterthought. Even being fair they did strive to include actual dungeons (even though easily circumvented) and providing a narrative of succession. I wanted them to flesh out even any few things to their narrative conclusions vs the 100s of half finished plothole ridden extranious inclusions. It's just a shame that lore loving fans such as myself must rely mainly on perception and speculation vs hard conclusive points to enjoy.

Leaving Revali out should be a crime against the Rito themselves. The Zonai Shrines also suck pretty hard compared to their Sheikah counterparts(Literally the Apparatus Shrines are better), and most of the Zonai Runes are gimmicky at best. Nearly every melee weapon in the game being so fragile, and relying on fusing them, are both so ridiculous to me. And taking away all of the elemental arrows(Especially Bomb Arrows!) for more fusion crap is also a let down. TotK is like a 6/10, compared to Breath of the Wild's near perfect 9.9/10, in my opinion.
