I had the privilege of supporting Midge Ure with SLIK on a couple of shows in the mid-seventies, and he was on the Main Stage for the REWIND festivals last year or two when I was playing support on a smaller stage, so great to see him again almost 50 years later. Midge Ure remains one of the nicest people ever to grace show business, and has always been a gentleman in a world that produces fewer than it should. Stay happy, Midge... it's infectious.
This extraordinary man is on my short wishlist to sit and have a cup of coffee with one day. So real, down to Earth, humble and funny. I bet he has a million stories to tell. Recently saw him at a small intimate gig in Sacramento, and let me tell you. His voice and music are still so strong and pure. Do not hesitate if you get the chance to see him live. 💖
Midge you are still as cool now as when I was a young man dancing to and singing along with your music. I'm 55 now and I've been a huge fan for a long time. Cheers from Ottawa, Canada.
I met Midge Ure at the end of May 2023... and I walked away thinking I had met one of the nicest people I had ever met... such a giving man with time to spare.
I agree you totally! For many years I've been a fan of him and Ultravox. I've read his autobiography IF I WAS... and now I love his music more and more.
🌿 This is one of the most touching & moving music autobiographies I've watched, even if a tiny one! I always liked Ultravox' music but never happened to buy an album. Over the past 6~months I've discovered & have really gotten into Midge's solo music & so, of course, began watching interviews with him. Interviews with Midge Ure always leave me feeling so uplifted! This video is a perfect example! My takeaway from it is that whatever path life gives you, there's magic & beauty in that path even if it doesn't all play out exactly the way you were planning. Midge seems like such an incredibly nice, kind, & wise person! ✨🌿✨
This movie is also for me so touching and moving that I got my eyes wet with tears! I've read his autobiography IF I WAS... . I'm a Japanese and not very good at English so it took 3 months, but I got more and more into his music, Ultravox and solo works. What a humble, wise, kind, and strong person he is!
Currently falling down an Ultravox and Midge Ure rabbit hole and so glad this little snippet popped up. Midge, your mum sounds like an amazing woman. You followed your heart and gave us your soul, endless thanks.
Midge has always worn his fame lightly and really goes out of his way for his fans. After many decades I finally get to see him live in Australia next year!!
@Graeme Hill Good for you! I’m a huge fan as well; you are so fortunate! I wonder if he’ll come to California, where I am...(BTW, hope you’re not too affected by the fires...we also have that in common. We deal with this every year. Our terrain and weather are so similar).
Love Midge Ure and Ultravox, music that has stood the test of time and most of my life. From Stranger Within to Homeland from Answers to Nothing to Fragile, with everything inbetween. Thanks James for the music.
If anybody who was ever destined to be famous it was certainly Midge Ure. Not many people get that many 'bites of the apple' and it seemed to be so effortless for him. Great talent and certainly had 'what it takes'
Midge is a gifted exceptional musician. All of his albums are timeless, they can be played back a hundred times without getting bored even once. Dear Midge, please keep giving us your beautiful songs, so that we don't become completely stupid with all this one note supertonic songs.
I have always loved Midge Ure and do remember his single with Slik - Forever and Ever, was one of the very first singles I bought in my life and, believe me, it was played to death. Midge is much more of a musical genius than he has ever been given credit for, and is one of a select few British musicians and singers who has also written for other people, who have had big hits with his compositions. Midge is a real legend. Thank you for all your wonderful work and compositions, Midge from a very grateful life long fan.
Great guy, great musician, never fully gets the kudos that he deserves in the big wide world of music. I must admit i prefer his solo stuff and saw him live in 2013 in my hometown of southampton. It was just him and a guy in the background on a drum machine. He played a great variety of tunes. Top man is midge.
james has a very big heart and loving soul hes very underrated hes done so much for alot of people he goes out of his way to do what ever he can for his fans
When I first heard this guy in Ultravox, I was a major head-banger and 'preppy' music was not allowed in the friend groups.. I had to listen to Vienna under cover... So glad I did as I have such great memories of Ultravox during the 80's...
What I've seen in this interview is a very intelligent man that brings music to a higher level. His speach includes a certain amount of poetry that enriches his music. The mysterical wave in all his songs makes me an ardent listener to his art.
I'm welling up...! Have loved Ultravox and Midge since the early '80s. I remember making a point of getting the Ultravox albums from Our Price on the day they came out. The Band and Midge are just plain awesome - and Midge, in whichever format he chooses to perform is always top notch! Thanks for sharing the video.
I live outside of Dallas, TX. I’m a middle aged old dude. Conservative. (No. I don’t vote. So save the harsh). I love music of all kinds and types. Progressive rock is my favorite. But I found God in 1985. And listened to Christian music exclusively until ‘05. In the last 2 months, I fell down a New Wave hole to explore the music I’d missed. Here on YT, a tuber by the name of Z!lentnoise creates wonderful 80’s mixes. I rediscovered Midge and Ultravox. What an amazing and kind person…. His music reflects the Scots and godly determination of soul and spirit. God richly bless you, Midge.
A wonderful self description, thanx, Midge, for being that honest, nice and funny! I loved your concert in Düsseldorf two days ago, your jokes and your intensity. Wish you all the best for coming projects! We fade to green ✌️🍀
I have always been a great fan of midge ure he has brought some good music to the charts throughout his career very pleasant kind of guy and never seems to give up throughout a long music career considering he came from the tenement slums of cambuslang Glasgow and what a great talent to share with others from Colin Corcoran high street royal mile Edinburgh 🕺👍🏻🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴🏴👍🏻💃
I love you! Saw you live in Trieste a loooong time ago. People where sitting still in their chairs and the you said: Why are you still sitting there, come on, come here at the front, so I ran and then everybody followed me
What a lovely, humble and talented guy. I knew "Slik", whe I was 10. I knew R.K. when I was 12. And I bought "Vienna", when I was 14. Now I am 59. May Midge live long and prosper.
Ha! I was going to leave the video after my initial post, but he is so likeable and the interview was so well done I ended up watching the whole thing. Thanks, Midge, for ALL of your music.
4:28 Mom's approval & Dad's shock. 7:55 "Success doesn't change you; it changes everybody else." 14:17 "Things have a finite lifespan." Love these autobiographies! Midge you EXEMPLIFY one who is following his greatest interest, deciding to leave bandmates and trying to make a living at musical recording/performance.
My Dad met you at Air Canada Cargo in /82 and forgot to get me your autograph argghh! Saw you a day or so later at Massey Hall in Toronto what a phenomenal show!
I have two favorite bands of all time Ultravox is one of them - I will never forget seeing them live when I was 19. The Voice live was frigging incredible. I bought every one of their albums and listened to them all the time. The only other band I felt that way about was Linkin Park RIP
I wish he had talked more about his singing. He was once asked who the real Midge Ure was and he said, "I'm the cute on behind the piano." He has that iconic voice of a generation. The only other one I can think of from that era who could really sing like that was Adrian Belew (King Crimson).
I loved 'Love's great adventure'..! (as I'm a hang glider pilot) 😊 Also;- I loved the end credits track to Max headroom, which he wrote, along with Chris Cross.
When you listen to the concerts he is still giving, you hear note for note this Great Singer really looooves what he's doing. I wish he would have said something about his odd stint in Thin Lizzy, which was probably his strangest career move, but apparantly he wasn't molested by hardrock fans, even if he wore yellow and pink outfits. Apparantly, he really could play the rock songs very well. Also, the interview certainly could have included a word or two or three or four about the totally underrated fantastic come back CD of Ultravox called Brilliant.... because it really IS brilliant. It is really "old school" Ultravox again, without sounding "dated". So sad not larger audiences picked it up.... But who knows, maybe in 7 years an "exclusive" car producer or jewel maker will pick up Brilliant, and the song will become Big in Bulgaria, and then grow and grow and invade the rest of the planet....
Midge Ure got a lot of crap for becoming Ultravox's singer, but it's totally undue because John Foxx left (because he's a control freak)...he wasn't kicked out. It's a silly argument for some to make (including Gary Numan). Woulda also been intersting to hear him mention the fascination w/ his THE MAN WHO SOLD THE WORLD cover after being featured in the video game METAL GEAR SOLID V
Have never heard such a brilliant a musician as Midge
I adore this beautiful man

Midge is from Glasgow Scotland 🏴

What a handsome and wonderful man. And what a phantastic mother to accept his dream.

Brilliant!!! ....So talented and staying humble,LOVE Midge! x
Love love love him
Midge Ure is talented yet humble, and strong. I respect him.
A real musician and a gentleman. I love Midge's music solo and with groups. What a talent!!!
I agree you totally! For many years I've been a fan of him and Ultravox. I've read his autobiography IF I WAS... and now I love his music more and more.
I've always loved Midge Ure, in a non-amorous way, and all his music.
God bless you, Midge!
What a brilliant and informative little documentary! All to the point and no filler. Very well made 👍🏻

We love you Midge❤️You are the essence and the heart and soul of the music world within this niche of 80’s European retro “New Wave”

Brilliant man ...he's a real music artist..of all time.🙏😇💜
Infinitely proud that it was an Irishman and a Scotsman who conceptualized Live Aid

Thanks, Midge, for ALL of your music.
Gifted and blessed man
lovely guy. i served my apprenticeship at same place as Midge about 3 years behind him at the National Engineering Laboratory (NEL) in East Kilbride
May I ask what kind of education that is? Is it to become a journeyman?
Thx and Greetings from a different country.
I got to see him live playing in Eastkilbride village theatre about 14yrs ago and luckily got him to autograph an album. x
Ah, thanks for the Small Faces shoutout! Can't wait to see you next month.
That was great!!! Some of these other "stars" could use a lesson in humility from him!
Awesome!!!
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤😊😊
Yep love this guy so much ❤️ Down to earth and humble!
My first dog was called Midge after Midge Ure. 😍
Was he musical too ?
Benoit Vanhees , only when he barked 🤣🤣
thats the cutest thing :)

Wonderful ! Love this from other artists.

increíble como canta este hombre...me encanta su musica
What a genius yet so humble.
Vienna made me aware of music as a child, very ethereal sound coming from the radio in the night
